Break on Through: The Lasting Legacy of the Doors, a featured exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum that features artifacts from all phases of the band's career, opened in May and will run into 2008.

The first section of Break on Through focuses on the group's early years and includes two programs from student film festivals at UCLA, where Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek met as film students. It also includes rare posters promoting Rick and the Ravens, Manzarek's pre-Doors band, and the manuscript to "The Pony Express," Morrison's first poem, which he wrote when he was in fifth grade.

Philco Hip-Pocket Record, 1967, a miniature album that came with purchases of Gleem toothpaste or Head and Shoulders shampoo. Philco, the consumer-appliance division of Ford Motor Co., produced a special player for this format.

Robby Krieger's 1968 Gibson Les Paul Custom, the SG that's most closely associated with Krieger during his days with the Doors. This Les Paul was his backup guitar onstage and he used it in the studio on several Doors recordings.

John Densmore's drum and case, circa 1970. Densmore began playing drums in junior high school. At sixteen, he immersed himself in jazz: "I saw all the jazz musicians, every one. Miles, Coltrane, Art Blakey, Bill Evans; that was really my thing." This floor tom shell is all that remains of the kit he played in the Doors.
