IKE TURNER (Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1991 with Tina Turner and into the Blues Hall Of Fame in 2005 alone): The best of the recordings of Ike Turner's Kings Of Rhythm following the huge success of ‘Rocket 88’ a # 1 Billboard R&B chart hit during the summer of 1951 and before he conquered St Louis in 1956 and hooked up with little Anna Mae Bullock from Nutbush.
Turner had no more major chart successes until ‘A Fool For You’ in 1960, but this compilation cherry-picks the best (with an emphasis on the most rockin') tracks from the five years following ‘Rocket 88’. Ike sings, plays piano and plays guitar, alongside Billy "The Kid" Emerson, Clayton Love, Billy Gayles, Eugene "The Sly" Fox, Dennis Binder and others.
This fascinating record traces Ike's musical quest for another hit, sometimes trying to emulate the sound of other artists hits (you will recognise the strains of Roy Brown, Percy Mayfield, Guitar Slim, Little Junior Parker, Lloyd Price Joe Turner and others here) and sometimes being chillingly original and always being unmistakably Ike Turner & The Kings Of Rhythm!
All the most rockin' tracks by the ever elegant and sinister Mr. Turner - a man in on the very birth of Rock’n’Roll and Soul as we know and love it!
Remastered to sound wilder than ever and beautifully packaged with rare memorabilia and extensive notes from our man in the 1950s, Mr. Dave Penny!
Some of the hottest, most rockin' recordings to come out of America EVER… and is a must for lovers of Rock’n’Roll, R&B, and all shades of wild music!
