Rocker TOM PETTY is banned from keeping guns after he was caught going "mad" and shooting at trees.
The mellow star used to use his weapons to relieve stress, until they were taken away by authorities.
Petty says, "I can never have a gun in the house. I'm not allowed.
"I've had mine taken away for disturbing the peace. There were times when I'd just start shooting. Not at people, but I'd go out and kill a tree. When I'd get mad, I'd take a gun and kill some inanimate object. So it was the right thing to have the guns taken away. They're dangerous."

His fans think of him as being down-to-earth, but the scraggly stoner confides in the issue of Guitar World Acoustic that's available Dec. 5 that he is "not really all that balanced." Рокументари, снятое на основе турне по Израилю - интересная вещь. Мне нравится, как Стэн рассуждает о том, что это, мол, молодое государство, и когда-то Америка была так же молода. Ну-ну... :-) Том Петти и компания, которые бродят по базару или катаются на верблюдах - тоже здорово. И мне нравится ТР в автобусе.

Не уверена только, что снято в 1986 году, на программе стоит дата 1987 год (может это дата выпуска, но мне кажется, что все-таки турне было в 1987), называется она "MTV Music Passport. Rock Israel".

Да, я тоже удивилась, поскольку это раньше читала. Может быть в связи с како-то акцией против того, чтобы люди оружие в домах имели решили это опубликовать.

На официальном сайте ( http://tompetty.com/index2.htm ), оказывается, можно послушать "Highway 61" с концерта 18 августа 2006 года. ТР поет вместе с Allman Brothers. Судя по всему, это из их части концерта, так как сам концерт ТР & Heartbreakers у меня есть, там эта песня не исполнялась. К тому же Heartbreakers были представлены Олмэном после песни, значит,это был его сет. Песня очень классно звучит! Пользуйтесь шансом, чтобы послушать - Allman Brothers не разрешают записывать бутлеги со своих концертов, так что врял ди еще можно будет найти эту версию.

На концерте же у ТР Greg Allman пел второй куплет в "Little Red Rooster" - так сказать, ответный реверанс. :-)

Did Tom Petty Really Write Last DJ?

Rock star Tom Petty is under additional pressure to prove the origins of his 2002 hit song 'The Last DJ'.

Orange County songwriter Jim Wagner, who wrote a song called 'The Last Great Radio DJ', alleges Petty has used his work as the template for 'The Last DJ'.

Wagner wrote his song as a tribute to Los Angeles DJ Jim Ladd. After sending the song to Ladd, a veteran of radio station KLOS, Ladd asked Wagner if he could use the song on his radio show. However, before that eventuated, Tom Petty came out with a similar song and released it as the title track to his 2002 album.

Ladd and Petty have been longtime friends dating back more than 20 years.

Wagner has been gathering evidence of the link between his song and Petty's for a number of years and has now gathered an explosive document of evidence showing how the similarities could be more than just coincidental.

Although Petty denies that his song is about Jim Ladd, he credited Ladd on his album. "for his inspiration and courage".

In a document given to Undercover, Ladd denies the song is written about him. He also denies that he passed on Wagner's song to Petty. "I can assure you that there is absolutely no connection between your song and the one by Mr. Petty" Ladd writes in a letter to Wagner dated December 4, 2002.

"The Tom Petty tune was written well before you sent me your song" Ladd says. "I know the timing of the release of the new album probably seems the reverse to you, but in fact, Tom had been working on the album for several years".

While it may truly have been the case that Petty was working on the album for a number of years, just 2 months before release the album had the working title of 'The Golden Circle'. No mention of the title 'The Last DJ' had even appeared in print until just before release. One month before the release of 'The Last DJ', Rolling Stone magazine was referring to it still as 'The Golden Circle'.

Ladd denies that the song 'The Last DJ' is even about him, but on his own website, as well as the official website for KLOS, he is called The Last DJ.

Likewise, Petty says that the character in the song is fictitious although he referred to Ladd as The Last DJ on October 30, 2000 at the Museum of Television and Radio in Beverly Hills.

Wagner's previous attempt to get justice for his song were thwarted by Petty's lawyers who used the "man with the deepest pockets" legal philosophy to soak up Wagner's ability to be heard.

Now, with an arsenal of evidence handed to Undercover, Wagner is ready for a second round of having his side of the story heard.

Tom Petty Accused Of Plagiarism

In a moment of irony following the furore over the Chili Pepper’s ‘Dani California’ Tom Petty has himself been accused of plagiarism.

An Orange County singer/songwriter Jim Wagner has alleged that Petty stole his song for the 2002 track ‘The Last DJ’.

Wagner says he wrote the original version ‘The Last Great Radio DJ’ in tribute to Los Angeles DJ Jim Ladd.

At the time Ladd asked if he could use the song on his radio show after Wagner sent it to him but eventually used Petty’s which appeared on the album of the same name according to Undercover.

Ladd and Petty are long-time friends of 20 years and the singer credited the song to the DJ on the sleeve notes of the album.

However, Ladd has denied involvement in any plagiarism in letters to Wagner saying: "I can assure you that there is absolutely no connection between your song and the one by Mr. Petty."

While the point about Petty working on the album for two years maybe true it is widely known that it was called ‘The Golden Circle’ just two months before its release.

'Highway Companion Big Weekend' kicks off December 15

Tom Petty's rare recordings and unreleased tracks will air this weekend on XM Radio as part of its 'Highway Companion Big Weekend.'

For the past two years, Petty has hosted the show 'Tom Petty's Buried Treasure' on the satellite radio station that boasts more than seven million US subscribers.

This weekend the radio station will feature a 72-hour marathon of the first 44 episodes of his popular show, with a play list that includes artists such as Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The White Stripes, and Little Richard, as well as obscure tracks from Petty himself.

The 'Highway Companion Big Weekend,' which takes its name from Petty's most recent album, 'Highway Companion,' kicks off Friday, December 15 at midnight Eastern Standard Time on XM LIVE (XM 200).

Petty has been nominated for Best Rock Album for 'Highway Companion' and Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for the track 'Saving Grace' at the Grammy Awards, which take place February 11 in Los Angeles. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers just celebrated their 30th anniversary, and Petty is currently working with Academy Award-winning director Peter Bogdanovich on a film documentary chronicling the Heartbreakers' history.

Давно собиралась спросить - а кто как переводит название Square One?

Я перевожу как "убежище", "тихий уголок". То есть не перевожу, а просто так чувствую эту песню.

Ощущения совпадают.
Если говорить о переводе ощущений,
то на мой взгляд - это убежище как
бы начальная точка пути, первая клетка,
к которой лирический герой возвращается

То есть, перевод фразы "square one" - "начало начал, точка отправления" совпадает с ощущениями. Я думала, может кто-то углядел какую-нибудь игру слов.
