Jagger keen on Havel film role

Mick Jagger is considering playing former Czech president Vaclav Havel in a new film about his life.

Havel told Czech daily Lidove Novin that he and Jagger had discussed the idea and that the singer was really keen.

Civil rights activist Havel, 68, is a close friend of the Rolling Stone, who co-owns the Jagged Films Production Company that has produced movies such as Enigma starring Kate Winslet.

Havel said it was not the first time a film about his life had been discussed. He was approached by Jane Fonda 15 years ago with a similar idea.

"She wanted to make a film about me and my former wife Olga, with her playing Olga. It's probably a good thing that nothing came of it," he said.

Что касаемо rustones -- просто нет времени... :-(
В принципе, уже подготовлено несколько новых переводов песен (в т.ч. парочка из биггербэнга), и ещё кое-что, но, к сожалению, у нас (тех, кто занимается сайтом) катастрофически не хватает времени в связи с новым крупным проектом по основному месту работы. Хочется надеяться, что где-то через полмесяца аврал начнёт потихоньку сходить на нет, и мы наконец доберёмся-таки до сайта...
Кстати, спасибо за ссылки и отзыв (гм, надеюсь, лучше поблагодарить поздно, чем никогда...:-\ ) При следующем обновлении всё будет учтено...

-Бред, тяжкий бред. Куды его несет на старости лет? "Я актер, зовусь Незнайка, от меня вам - балалайка". Совсем рехнулся.

И кстати, народ - тут случайно наткнулся на 4 CD из сериии Lost And Found - там сайд-проекты Stones и записи других исполнителей, в которых они принимали участие. Варьируется от официальных треков с альбомов или синглов до концертных бутлежных или записей с ТВ. Обложки рисованные, с роллингами - импрессионистская мазня в духе ронни-вудовских художеств. Каждый посвящен памяти кого-нибудь из музыкантов: Алексиса Корнера, Скримин Джей Хокинса и т. д. Типа, кто-нибудь знает - что это? Мне сказали, что штук десять в серии должно быть.

KEITH RICHARDS SAYS RON WOOD IS OK BY HIM

While Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts was fighting throat cancer last year, guitarist Ron Wood quietly slipped back into rehab for alcoholism. Wood also went through rehab before the Stones' 2002 world tour, but Keith Richards told us that his bandmate's troubles have never caused the group much concern: "I really see no difference in Woody whether he's been in rehab or not. He's the same bloke. There is more concentrated playing, some beautiful stuff. I mean, I must say, his attention to detail in the last year or so has become markedly more obvious to me. I mean, otherwise, Woody's Woody."

Wood did return to play guitar on 10 of the 16 tracks on the Stones' new album, A Bigger Bang.

The Stones resume their current tour on Saturday (September 24th) in Columbus, Ohio.

Послушал, как сын Брайана Джонса (как его - Энди чтоль?) исполняет Last Time в рэгги-обработке. Смешно.

Nothing stops the Rolling Stones
Band gets good reviews on CD, concerts

Keith Richards doesn’t have to think long when he’s asked if the Rolling Stones would have soldiered on if drummer Charlie Watts had succumbed to throat cancer last year instead of trouncing it.

First, Richards hesitates.

"Well, we’d really have to think about it," he says.

But two seconds later, he adds: "You know, I’ve got to say, probably we would. We would go on."

And there you have it.

To those who’ve been asking themselves if anything could stop this vampirically resilient band from moving forward, the answer seems to be ... just about nothing. Not even the demise of the man Richards says is "the true soul" of the band.

Once again the Stones are touring. And once again pundits are scratching their heads over how long these sixtysomethings can dodge the odds and keep putting on a show of two sweaty hours - not to mention how long hundreds of thousands of people will continue to pony up hundreds of dollars to watch them.

So far, reviewers have glowed over the Stones’ performances, and enough people have shown up to sell out every place the band plays.

For Richards, the torrent of "Will you guys ever pack it in?" questions misses something fundamental about the band - their attitude toward playing live.

"It’s an addiction," he says, adding with a cackle, "and addiction is something I should know something about.

"Nobody would have questioned why Count Basie or Duke Ellington kept doing it," he continues. "They just accepted that this is what they do."

The Basie and Ellington references may be more apt than they first seem. Anyone who has seen the Stones play live knows that, in a way, they’re as much a jazz combo as a blues-fueled rock band. When the musicians push and pull against the riffs and rhythms of each other, there’s a spark of improvisation - even amid a concert that, in many ways, couldn’t be more calculated.

"It is a jazz band in its own little way," Richards concurs. "Charlie is a jazz drummer, and (bassist) Darryl Jones worked with Miles (Davis) for five years. That gives us more freedom to move."

It also creates one more striking comparison between the Stones and the band they’ve most famously been cast against: the Beatles. Just as the Stones’ tour builds momentum, Paul McCartney who started his own road show.

While McCartney’s concerts offer impeccable re-creations of the Beatles’ studio recordings, the Stones shimmy through their catalogue with the quirks and vamps of a thriving live unit.

"We always knew that the Stones could have just been a studio band," Richards says. "But it just won’t ever happen. We need the injection of the show - and the audience."

That’s good, because the Stones’ studio work flagged badly in the last decade and a half. They followed 1989’s middling "Steel Wheels" with 1994’s awful "Voodoo Lounge" and 1997’s even worse "Bridges to Babylon." They’ve focused instead on live CDs, all of which have ranked as little more than weak souvenirs of the shows.

But the band’s new album, "A Bigger Bang," reverses that sad trend. It’s the Stones’ most stoked and engaged studio work since 1981’s "Tattoo You."

Richards thinks he knows why it clicked this time. Again, it relates to Watts’ health scare.

"When Charlie went into chemo, Mick and I had to look at each other and say, ’Are we going to put this thing on hold?’ In about 30 seconds, I thought, ’That seems to be a no. So Mick, you get on drums, and I’ll double on bass, and let’s put some songs down. (As a result) Mick and I were working together much closer than we have in a long time."

Richards says the temporary loss of Watts changed Jagger’s role in the band. "Mick has come more into the music side than on any album ever," Richards says.

The singer played the slide guitar on "Back of My Hand" and wrote the riff in "Rain Fall Down," a terrific little funk piece that counters the group’s usual style.

"He’s been working on his electric guitar since we’ve been off the road," Richards explains. "He’s always been a great acoustic player, but the electric always seemed to run out of his hands. Now, I think he finally tamed the beast."

Though Jagger and Richards often collaborate on music as well as lyrics, the guitarist says the words to the album’s most talked-about song, "Sweet Neo Con," were pure Jagger. It’s an unfiltered put-down of the current conservative American regime, offering a rare political statement from the normally above-the-fray Stones.

The timing of "Sweet Neo Con’s" release shows the Stones still have an unusual flair for getting ink. Originally, the group sent copies of the new album to the press with just 12 of its 16 songs. "Neo Con" was omitted. They didn’t feed that song to the media until right before the tour kicked off, giving them a last-minute PR push.

The group has also attracted attention by making "Bigger Bang" their longest album since the 1972 masterpiece, "Exile on Main Street." Richards credits the extra songs to the span of time since their last CD.

"It’s been eight years (since "Bridges to Babylon")," he says. "At 16 songs, that’s just two a year."

What you need to know about Stones concerts

WHERE ARE THE STONES PLAYING?: Mick and the boys are at Nationwide Arena in Columbus Saturday and PNC Park in Pittsburgh Wednesday as part of the Bigger Bang tour. At PNC Park, Pearl Jam will open.

ARE TICKETS AVAILABLE?: Both venues were sold out but suddenly some tickets are available. Part of it is a marketing ploy but also tickets open up once the massive stage is set up and organizers can determine if more seats can be sold. Get tickets for Columbus at www.ticketmaster.com or for Pittsburgh, tickets.com. If you feel adventurous, just take off to the concert and see if there’s anything at the ticket office. Also, listen for news on the classic rock stations. Expect to pay between $99 and $350.

WHY AREN’T THEY IN CLEVELAND?: Good question. After the Stones had their news conference announcing their tour, the people at the Gund Arena (since renamed Quicken Loans Arena) were negotiating to get the band but apparently it has not worked out. Several new concerts have been added, but none around Cleveland. The Stones reportedly are demanding a hefty guaranteed income no matter what and tepid sales on other big bands may have made the Cleveland people cautious.

THE STONES HAVE ALWAYS PLAYED CLEVELAND BEFORE, HAVEN’T THEY?: Not always. When the new Browns stadium was under construction in 1997, the band took its Bridges to Babylon act to the Horseshoe at Ohio State University. It turned out to be the biggest North America concert of that tour. The Stones were at the Gund in 2002 and 1999. Mick Jagger joked in 2002 that Cleveland was the only place you could see the Stones in two places, the other being the Rock ’n Roll Hall of Fame. The band played the old stadium in 1994, 1989, 1978 and 1975, the Richfield Coliseum in 1981 and the Akron Rubber Bowl in 1972.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?: The Stones usually start the concert with "Start Me Up," although there have been some modifications. You will hear the usual warhorses, like "Satisfaction," "Honky Tonk Women," "Jump’n Jack Flash" and "Brown Sugar." They are doing a cover of Ray Charles’ "Nighttime is the Right Time" and four songs from the new "Bigger Bang" CD. Note: The Stones have been off a week and may have some surprises. The stage is huge and at one point part of it breaks off and transports the band to the center of the arena or stadium. The Stones part of the concert is about two hours long.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?: Something with a tongue.

Наверное несколько причин, одна из которых для меня очевидна:
В истории "Легендарнаой Четвёрки", увы, стоит точка, а "Камни", как единый живой организм, "всё катится и катится", короче история продолжается...
