George wins in his libel case that claimed he accepted sexual favors in exchange for a donation to charity.

In Tampa, Florida, the exhibition of Linda's pictures entitled "Sixties" is on display at the Tampa Museum of Art.

It is announced that the Strawberry Field children's home, immortalised by the Beatles, is to close

The Beatles travelled 170 miles for a performance at the Invicta Ballroom in Chatham, Kent.

It was the only time the group performed at the venue.

The Invicta Ballroom was also the furthest south The Beatles had played to date, their bookings thus far having been predominantly in the north of England.

"A black and white Beatles Parlophone promotional card autographed on the reverse by the group in blue ballpoint pen. The autographs were obtained at the Invicta Ballroom, Chatham, Kent, England on January 12th 1963, at the time of the concert this was The Beatles southernmost engagement. John Lennon has added 'xxx' below his name, Paul McCartney has added 'xxx' below his name, George Harrison has added 'To Vivian x' above his name and 'xxxx' below his name and Ringo Starr has added 'To Viv Love and Luck' above his name and 'xxx' below his name. Comes with a letter from the original recipient. The photograph on the front of the promotional card was taken by Dezo Hoffman. It pictures The Beatles recording 'Love Me Do' in EMI Studios, Abbey Road, London on September 4th 1962. Each signature is very well formed, bold and spaced on the card. Measures 14.5cm x 8.75cm (5.75 inches x 3.5 inches). The card has wear to the edges and some light staining on the top left side. Very good minus condition."

The Beatles made their debut on the television show Val Parnell's Sunday Night At The London Palladium on 13 October 1963. Three months later they made their return.

The difference in The Beatles' profile between then and now was huge, illustrated not least by their fee having gone from £250 to £1,000. The show was made by Associated TeleVision (ATV), and invariably attracted huge viewing figures.

Much of the day was spent in rehearsals at the Palladium, with The Beatles topping the bill during the live show, which was broadcast from 8.25pm to 9.25. The group took part in a short skit with compère Bruce Forsyth, and closed the show with a five-song set.

The songs performed were I Want To Hold Your Hand, This Boy, All My Loving, Money (That's What I Want) and Twist And Shout.

Also on the bill were singer Alma Cogan and comedian Dave Allen. The Beatles joined them and Forsyth on a revolving carousel at the end of the show where they waved goodbye to the tune of Startime.

This was the first time The Beatles met Alma Cogan. After the show she invited them back to her flat at 44 Kensington High Street, which she shared with her mother and younger sister. The Beatles, used to making a quick exit from venues, arrived before Cogan, who was busy getting changed in her dressing room back at the Palladium.
