Может кто-то слова выложит?

Где скачать, не знаю. По музыке, это одна из моих любимейших вещей. Выходила на бутлегах. А по тексту, ходят слухи, что это о геях или о лесбиянках что-то такое. Я не смог сам слова разобрать.

Как раз сейчас качаю эту песню WinMX'ом (пиринговая сеть). В нете говорят, что это одна из самых интригующих в плане текста песен Джона.

Выходила на Free As A Bird - The Dakota Beatle Demos и LOST SLEEPY BLIND LEMON ALBUM.

"FRIEND OF DOROTHY - Originated on alt.showbiz.gossip. Basically, it means that someone is rumored to either be gay or lesbian, or have gay tendencies that trips someone's gaydar."

Disc two leads off with three home demos from 1976, the beginning of John's house-husband years, Tennessee, Memories, and Sally And Billy. Memories has John recording guitar over an earlier piano demo. She Is A Friend Of Dorothy's, New York slang for lesbians, dates from 1977 and is a very polished song compared to many of John's home demos. John explores a nautical theme in the next three demos, The Boat Song, Pedro The Fisherman, and Many Rivers To Cross. Many Rivers To Cross ends with John doodling on the old Motown song My Girl. Next up is an instrumental from the Great Wok himself recorded sometime in 1979. On August 6, 1980, the recording of Double Fantasy LP began with tuning up and this incomplete take of I'm Stepping Out. Dear Yoko is another incomplete take, this one interrupted by John breaking a string on his guitar. Woman is presented next in three stages of development. First we hear the song in rehearsal stage followed by John recording his vocals. The last version has John doing the finishing touch, adding the whispered intro. Clean Up Time is a rehearsal and is followed by the unlisted studio doodle, Let's Get Peculiar. More recordings from August 1980 follow. John and the band run-through a different take of the song destined for the Milk And Honey LP, Nobody Told Me. Next is a rehearsal take of Watching The Wheels, preceded by a brief parody of I Am The Walrus. This instrumental version of Woman is a guitar overdub and it was often used in the series as background music. Next is an alternate take with interesting backing vocals. Another song which didn't surface until Milk And Honey is Borrowed Time, represented here by an early take. Closing this disc is an alternate take of I'm Losing You followed by some session studio talk. Hope you enjoyed this trek through the Lost Lennon archives.

During the middle part of this [20th]century, many gay men and lesbians in the United States used the term "a friend of Dorothy's" as a code word for a gay man. Closeted gays in mixed company could ask each other, "Are you a friend of Dorothy's?" [or "Do you know Dorothy?"] without fear of revelation and awkwardness if the answer was no.

Two possible origins for this phrase have been suggested. The most obvious one suggests that the expression refers to Judy Garland's role in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. The film has always resonated with gay camp sensibility, and Garland has been a gay icon ever since. Particularly after her well-publicized suicide attempt in 1950, Garland was seen as a beloved and tragic figure by gay men, who flocked to her concerts. Upon her death in 1969, many gay bars were draped in black in memorial. The Stonewall riots, which marked the start of the gay liberation movement, started the night of Garland's funeral.

Perhaps the more interesting explanation points to Dorothy Parker, the American writer whose short stories and one-liners have been popular with gay men in particular. Parker was married to a gay man, writer Alan Campbell, and some have suggested she was bisexual. In any event, she is widely recognized as a master of the one-liner; when asked to use the word horticulture in a sentence, she replied, "You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think."

As recounted in the recent documentary Coming Out Under Fire, Parker's books were on the list of approved literature for soldiers serving overseas. The language in them is exaggerated and campy, and some GIs used Parker's diction and syntax as a secret gay language in their speech and letters.
