The Floyd footage has been subtly altered compared to the original
BBC broadcast (as archived on "Better L8 Than Never"). Here's a few
things I picked up:-

1. Roger's trouble with feedback at the beginning of CN has been
removed.
2. The ambient echoey keyboard effects during the verses of CN have
been enhanced.
3. The shouted bit during the final guitar solo of CN has been made
less prominent (incidentally who did this?).
4. The peddle steel guitar (presumably Jon Carin's) during the verses
of WYWH has been made more prominent.
5. Tim Renwick's acoustic guitar intro to WYWH has been altered to
give a "transistor radio" effect like on the album.
6. Renwick's electrical "pop" when he unplugs his acoustic guitar
during WYWH has been removed.
7. The crowd sing-along to WYWH is more prominent.
8. The crowd cheers during Breathe when Dave and Rog finally appear
on the giant video screens have been made more audible.
9. All the camera shots that didn't quite work in the original
broadcast have been edited. Thus it is a better visual experience.

No surprises there then. I expect there are many more.
The picture quality is incredible even on my cheap TV (much better
than BLTN).

One extra feature in the DVD package is called "backstage at Hyde
Park" in which the cameraman is standing directly behind (a rather
self conscious) Rick Wright during the Hey Jude finale - so he WAS
there after all!

Now I'll analyze that Snoop Doggy Dog footage and report back to
you......

NEW INDEPTH DARK SIDE BOOK - UPDATE

Following our previous news stories about John Harris's eagerly anticipated book, "The Making Of The Pink Floyd Masterpiece, The Dark Side of The Moon", the book has now been published worldwide, and we've taken a good look at it.

The hardback book is an excellent, indepth analysis of the album, and has been designed by Storm Thorgerson and his team. The highly detailed cover is typical of their great work, and the glass marble casting a shadow will no doubt be cause for some debate!

The book itself features the whole story of the album, from the early days of the band, through to every aspect of the development of the music and recording, retold through the extensive interviews obviously done with all members of the band, together with other key individuals involved.

The book is bolstered with rare photographs; the US edition is peppered throughout with unusual shots, many of which have come from Nick Mason's own archives. The UK edition features a selection of these shots. The first-hand interviews, and the use of Nick's pictures, give an added edge to the book, distancing it from other books which can sometimes be simply rehashes of other published works.

Be sure to read our review of John Harris's book, and also check out the special website that has been set up to coincide with the release. www.darksideofthemoonbook.com is definitely worth a visit - alongside information about the book and the author, there is a ten picture photo gallery which includes four from Nick's archives (such as Earls Court 1973 and Syd Barrett, late 1967), and four from Jill Furmanovsky's archives (such as Brighton 1972, on stage). There is also an excerpt from the book - the prologue.

Orders for this long-awaited book can be placed through these special links: Amazon.com (US/International), Amazon UK, Amazon Canada, France and Germany.

We've been contacted with details of something that might prove suitable...

Danish rock photographer Joergen Angel has had a long career of capturing artists in action, from the mid 1960s until the end of the 1980s. During that time, he gained quite a reputation, and his claim to fame are the shots of the pre-Led Zeppelin band "The New Yardbirds" at their first concert.

He is now selling prints of some of his pictures. In his archives, he has 50,000, of which around 2,000 can be seen on his website - www.Angel.dk. Of particular interest are his wonderfully atmospheric pictures of Pink Floyd in action at the Copenhagen Falkoner Centret, in November 1970, and the KB Hallen, again in Copenhagen, in 1971.

The pictures can be obtained in various sizes, and discounts are available if you buy a number of shots. From time to time, special offers are also available, and these are detailed on the site.

Even if you have no intention of buying one, the site is worth a visit to see the great black and white shots of the band in action.

PINK FLOYD - 2005 UK MUSIC HALL OF FAME UPDATE

Back on 8th September we were first to bring you the news that Pink Floyd are amongst the inductees to the 2005 UK Music Hall Of Fame. We have a couple of updates for you, including details of where you can get tickets to the induction ceremony, being held on 16th November at London's Alexandra Palace, and a possible David Gilmour performance.Back on 8th September we were first to bring you the news that Pink Floyd are amongst the inductees to the 2005 UK Music Hall Of Fame. We have a couple of updates for you, including details of where you can get tickets to the induction ceremony, being held on 16th November at London's Alexandra Palace, and a possible David Gilmour performance.

Whilst a few, less reputable ticket agents and eBay sellers are offering tickets, they are charging significantly more than this official seller - SeeTickets.com who are selling them at Ј82 including booking fee. This contrasts sharply with other sources; on eBay, tickets have been seen for around Ј700!

As mentioned previously, Pink Floyd will not be performing. David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright will be appearing; Roger Waters, who joined the others at July's Live 8 concert, is not expected to be there as he is performing the premiere of his opera, Ca Ira, in Rome on the 17th November - the following night - so will be preoccupied with final arrangements for this show.

As part of the ceremony, the single coming out next week - Ever Fallen In Love - will be performed by the main protagonists on the recording, live. One of these is David Gilmour, but we are just waiting on confirmation that he will be taking part in the live rendition. The single, released to raise funds for Amnesty International, is now available to order through these special links: UK/Elsewhere, US/International, Canada, France, or Germany.

The 2005 UK Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be broadcast on the UK's Channel 4 TV channel, as a two-hour and fifty minute special on the 17th November, at 9pm. However, the great news for Floyd fans across the world is that the BBC's Radio 2 will be broadcasting the whole event live on the 16th.

For those who can't pick up the radio signal, www.BBC.co.uk stream all their programmes live via the internet, with every show available to listen to on demand for seven days following broadcast.

More news, and full coverage of this event, as we get it...

Roger Waters plagiarises John Prine song "Sam Stone"

============

If this is old information then I apologise but the song "the post war dream" is a note for note steal from John Prine's song "Sam Stone". I couldn't believe it when I heard it! In fairness it could be that the tune is a traditional tune from way back and John Prine borrowed it as well, but just thought you might want to know. It got me wondering how many other Pink Floyd/Roger Waters tunes are nicked. I don't mean just influenced by, I mean lifted note for note.

It has been confirmed that Pink Floyd will NOT perform at the Hall Of Fame ceremony on 16 November. However, it's understood that David Gilmour will perform the John Peel tribute single "Ever fallen in Love" live alongside a number of other artists. It's still thought (although not yet confirmed) that Roger Waters will not be able to attend, due to commitments with Ca Ira.

Roger Waters to stage new opera

NEW YORK, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Former Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters wants to get the world interested in his new opera.

Waters is staging concert-style performances of "Ca Ira," an opera set during the French Revolution, Thursday and Friday in Rome. He hopes the shows will attract interest to present "Ca Ira" elsewhere.

"What I have to do is go on working as hard as I can to make sure those performances are as good as I can make them," Waters says, "and hope that the press and other promoters or people who come to see it go, 'Wow, we can put this on. This is great!'"

Waters adapted "Ca Ira" from a libretto by Etienne and Nadine Roda-Gil.

Pink Floyd is being inducted into Britain's Music Hall of Fame Wednesday in London. The group reunited for this year's Live 8 concert in London, but there are no plans for future projects.

Book Review: The Dark Side of the Moon: The Making of Pink Floyd's Masterpiece

A look into Floyd's masterpieceA look into Floyd's masterpiece

The Dark Side of the Moon: The Making of Pink Floyd's Masterpiece
By John Harris
(Da Capo Press)

(AP) - It's likely that you, someone you know, or at the very least a high school or college buddy has owned a copy of Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon.

With 30 million copies in print - roughly one for every person living in California - the 1973 album long ago reached iconic status.

In his book, The Dark Side of the Moon: The Making of Pink Floyd's Masterpiece, John Harris takes a deeper look at how Pink Floyd successfully shifted gears from its psychedelic 1960s beginning to create its most famous album.

While there are bright spots to the book, most notably the rare photographs culled from band drummer Nick Mason's collection and new interviews with all Pink Floyd members, overall it reads like extended liner notes. Frustratingly sparse in some areas and overly long in others, the book would have benefited from a little more in-depth analysis.

Cursory references to how Dark Side has so integrated itself into the culture - including one paragraph devoted to how some fans figured out how it could serve as a soundtrack to The Wizard of Oz - warranted more attention.

In some ways, Harris' introduction is the best part of the book. In nine pages, he succinctly covers the history of the band and the impact of Dark Side, and lays out the ongoing feud between Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and songwriter and lead singer Roger Waters.

That doesn't mean the rest of the book isn't an enjoyable read. Harris does take a little too long explaining the history of the band from its Syd Barrett-led beginnings in the 1960s, through his departure, and up to the recording of Dark Side.

But new interviews with band members help shed light on the recording process of the album, which Harris postulates was an example of the band's teamwork that it could never replicate in later years on such records as Wish You Were Here and The Wall.

The real strength of the book is the insights gained from others involved in the recording of the album, many of whom are unknown to casual Floyd fans. That includes backup singers, producer Alan Parsons and the designer of the now-familiar prism on the album cover.

In some ways, knowing more about the mysterious voices that come and go throughout the album and how its mesmerizing sound was created is a bit of a letdown. Part of the allure of Dark Side is its mysteries.

After reading Harris's book, there are far fewer of them.
