The Return Of The CureThe Return Of The Cure

The Cure will release a new album through Geffen Records imprint I Am on June 22.

The yet to be titled album will be their 13th studio album. It was recorded at London's Olympic Studios with producer Ross Robinson who has worked with Korn and Limp Bizkit. I Am Records is Robinson's label.

The Cure line-up has remained unchanged since 1994 with Robert Smith on vocals and guitar, Simon Gallup on bass, Perry Bamonte on guitar, Jason Cooper on drums and Roger O'Donnell on the keyboards.

The last album from The Cure was 'Bloodletting' in 2000.

The band will relaunch their live activity with a headlining spot on the US Coachella Festival starting on May 2.

Группа будет теперь звучать тяжело, как Korn и Limp Bizkit?
Здорово!

A Cure OverdoseA Cure Overdose

Although the band has been prone to announcing farewell tours in the past, 2004 is shaping up to be quite an expansive year for the Cure. The seminal British band is planning to tour extensively as well as release a new album through Geffen Records imprint I Am on Jun 22. Led as always by lead singer/guitarist Robert Smith, the Cure line-up since 1994 comprises of longtime bass player Simon Gallup, guitarist Perry Bamonte, drummer/percussionist Jason Cooper, and keyboardist Roger O'Donnell.

Along with numerous other ‘80s bands, The Cure has currently enjoying a huge resurgence of interest. Earlier this year, the Cure collection, Join the Dots: B-sides & Rarities 1978- 2001, a 4-CD 70 song box set, was a big seller. Smith has also taken on a number of genre spanning collaborations including adding vocals to blink-182's new track, "All Of This." He is also featured on Chris Vrenna's latest Tweaker CD, 2 a.m. Wakeup Call, on the very cool song “Truth Is."

The yet-to-be-named new Cure album will be their 13th studio work. It was recorded at London's Olympic Studios and produced by metal-edged guru Ross Robinson, better known for working with Slipknot, Korn and Limp Bizkit. The Cure will perform the album's yet-to-be-revealed first single Apr 30 on NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, the same day they will be inducted into the Hollywood Rockwalk in front of Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd.

Two days later, the Cure will headline the second night of the esteemed Coachella Music and Arts Festival. Following that, a North American tour is in the works for summer with many support acts picked by Smith himself, many of whom were obviously influenced by The Cure. The singer has let slip to the press that Interpol and The Rapture are two bands on board. Hot Hot Heat is also rumored to be in negotiations. Also due later this year for release are expanded remastered reissues of the first four Cure albums: Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography. Plans are to re-release all albums in the band's catalog in this manner with a second disc accompanying the remastered studio albums which will contain demos, remixes, unreleased tracks, and live songs. Whew, that's a lot for a band that has already said its good-byes many times over.

The Cure Gets Place in Hollywood Rockwalk

LOS ANGELES - The British rock band The Cure has been honored with a place in the Hollywood Rockwalk.

The band's five members placed their hands in concrete Friday to be installed outside the original Guitar Center store on Sunset Boulevard, joining other music legends such as Chuck Berry, Los Lobos, The Ramones and Van Halen.

The Cure's signature melancholy sound influenced numerous other acts in the years following its founding in 1976.

Singer Robert Smith, 45, crafted haunting, emotional songs that spawned millions in record sales and legions of devoted fans.

Robert Smith Draws BloodRobert Smith Draws Blood

The Cure frontman embraces metal, but don't get him started on the Darkness

By KIRK MILLER

Just weeks before the cure was set to release their quite excellent thirteenth studio album, simply titled The Cure, Robert Smith was still tweaking it. "I got up at about nine in the morning here in England and just directed things over the phone for eight hours with the studio people in New York," said Smith, 45. "I'd use the Internet, like our producer Ross Robinson does, but I live in a grungy part of the country and I have a bad dial-up connection."
If Smith is nervous about the new record, it's only because the band's stature has grown immensely in the four years since its last release, 2000's Bloodflowers. During that time, a number of alternative bands have come out of the closet and expressed their adamant devotion to the group. Several of them will be opening for the band this summer on the inaugural Curiousa Festival 2004 tour, including the Rapture, Interpol, Thursday and Cursive. "It would have been particularly stupid for me to put together a lineup of bands I wouldn't want to see myself," says Smith. "I always place myself as the archetypal Cure fan. I'm the wrong age, but I still think that if I like anything particularly, our fans will."

What was the first show you went to?

The very first concert I ever went to on my own was actually Rory Gallagher. In a one-month period in 1973 or '74, I saw him, Thin Lizzy and the Rolling Stones. I wasn't really a big Rory Gallagher fan, but I thought his guitar playing was fabulous. But Thin Lizzy, they were fabulous. I saw them probably ten times in two years. The actual sound of them live was just so overpowering, it was better than drinking.

What else did you listen to as a kid?

When punk came along, I found my generation's music. I grew up listening to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd, 'cause that was what got played in the house. But when I first saw the Stranglers, I thought, "This is it." And I saw the Buzzcocks the following week, and I thought, "This is definitely it."

Is there a song that you wish you had written?

"Happy Birthday to You," just so that people all around the world every second of the day were singing my song. Either that or Bowie's "Life on Mars?"

Your new producer, Ross Robinson, also works with metal bands such as Korn and Limp Bizkit. Were you a fan?

A few years ago, I had heard that Ross liked us, so I searched out what else he had done. I thought At the Drive-In was great. And I've always liked Korn -- they're pioneers of that sound. A lot of the stuff I was kind of ambivalent towards, like Slipknot, but my younger nephews swear by those bands. What I found that held it all together was the intensity -- everything Ross did had a real sense of urgency about it.

On your Web site, you cite En Vogue as a band you like. Can you honestly tell me when you last broke out the Funky Divas album?

A few years ago, my CD collection had grown to such insane proportions that I gave away about ninety percent of them. The ones that were left I listed on our Web site. I kept the En Vogue album because I really liked it. Some of it sounded like Janet Jackson -- I like some of her stuff. But I wouldn't say I'm a fan. It's partly tongue-in-cheek.

What do you think of the Darkness?

Well, I never liked Queen. I can honestly say I hated Queen and everything that they did. To have that rehashed and reheated for a second time around is pretty weird. So, no, I don't like the Darkness at all. I think they're a comedy band.

You have a habit of "retiring" after each Cure album, yet here you are.

In the past, we've done incredibly long tours for months and months at a time, and you get sick of everyone around you. It just drives you insane, and the easiest way out, you feel at that moment, is just to disband everything, dissolve everything and to just walk away from it. I don't feel that this time. I actually feel very enthusiastic about the band at the moment.

Have you ever thought, "I'm done with the makeup, I'm going to go out as just Robert Smith"?

I still wear makeup when I'm doing things. I'm going out later on tonight, I'll put some makeup on. It's just part of what I do when I confront people. When I do things, I just feel different. When I'm sitting at home, when I'm sitting outside, walking around on the beach, I don't generally wear makeup.

I can't imagine you on a beach.

Oh, I live on the beach. My garden runs down onto the shore. It's excellent.

You did a South Park episode a few years ago, and Kyle yelled at the end, "Disintegration is the best album ever!" Do you agree with that statement?

[Laughs] Who am I to disagree?

Robert Smith happy without children
24/07/2004

The Cure frontman Robert Smith is comfortable with his decision to never have children - because he feels he's far too irresponsible to bring any offspring into the world.

The 45-year-old rocker and his wife Mary Poole will celebrate 16 years of marriage next month, and they're happy they never brought children of their own into their romance.

Smith says: "I have 25 nephews and nieces, so I have the pleasure of lots of children around when I want them. But I can shut the door on them.

"My wife and I decided at a very early age that we would not have children. I don't feel responsible enough to bring a child into the world."
