David Crosby and Graham Nash will release their first album as a duo in 28 years Aug. 10 via Sanctuary. Recorded earlier this year in Los Angeles, the two-disc, 20-track "Crosby-Nash" was produced by the artists and the father/son team of Russell and Nathaniel Kunkel. Russ Kunkel, who played drums on 1972's "Crosby & Nash," also contributes to the new album, as does guitarist Dean Parks, bassist Leland Sklar and Crosby's son, James Raymond, his bandmate in the group CPR.

Crosby and Nash, who have released three previous albums a duo, will kick off a tour with Stephen Stills as Crosby, Stills & Nash July 1 in Prior Lake, Minn. At some point following that outing's Sept. 22 close in Woodinville, Wash., they will stage a tour in support of "Crosby-Nash."

Crosby Pleads Guilty To Gun Charge

Veteran rock artist David Crosby, a founding member of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, pleaded guilty today (July 2) in New York to a gun charge, was fined $5,000 and sentenced to a conditional discharge.

Crosby, 62, pleaded guilty in Manhattan's State Supreme Court to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree as part of a plea deal. The charge carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison upon conviction.

Justice Michael R. Ambrecht said the case was discharged on the conditions that Crosby pay the fine and the court surcharges and avoid getting arrested again. Crosby's lawyer, Scott Herschman, said his client planned to pay the fine immediately.

The singer was arrested March 6 at the DoubleTree Suites Hotel in midtown Manhattan. Police said they found a Colt .45-caliber handgun, three clips of .45-caliber ammunition and two knives in his luggage.

Police also said the musician had a plastic bag containing an ounce of marijuana, a wooden container with a marijuana cigarette in it, a package of cigarette rolling papers and two other plastic containers with marijuana residue.

Crosby was arrested just hours after performing with his band, CPR, at a Wayne, N.J., college. He had checked out of the hotel but left behind a piece of luggage, police said. A hotel worker went through the luggage looking for identification, found the marijuana, gun and knives, and called police.

Crosby later called the hotel to say he'd be returning to pick up the luggage. Police greeted him when he showed up.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Graham Nash Lends a Big Hand to Cleveland

CLEVELAND, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Graham Nash gave Cleveland a big boost -- and a big guitar -- this week. Nash, who was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum to promote his new photo book, Eye to Eye: Photographs by Graham Nash, took a moment to be photographed with the guitar he donated to United Way Services of Greater Cleveland.

The guitar, pictured here, is part of GuitarMania(R) II, Encore in 2004, a charity program presented by United Way Services in conjunction with the Rock Hall. The encore of GuitarMania marks the return of Cleveland's public art project featuring 10-foot-tall models of Fender Stratocaster(R) guitars with designs by celebrity and local artists. In 2002, the project raised one million dollars benefiting both UWS and the Rock Hall's Education Fund.

While in Cleveland on July 14, 2004, Nash stopped by the Museum, where his guitar is currently on display. Handwritten lyrics to "Teach Your Children" are on the back of the guitar. Nash was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 as a member of Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

This is not the first time Nash has helped the Rock Hall's Education Fund. In 2003, he participated in Works for Orchestra by Rock Artists, a collaborative education program involving the Museum and the Contemporary Youth Orchestra. The Cleveland-based Contemporary Youth Orchestra performed the world premier of Classical Nash, featuring the songs of Graham Nash. Nash was on hand to perform "Teach Your Children" with the orchestra. Proceeds from GuitarMania help to fund such programs at the Museum.

United Way Services is the largest private funder of health and human services in Greater Cleveland. Last year, United Way's volunteers raised $46.5 million dollars to provide more than 180 programs through nearly 130 partner agencies. Approximately one-in-four Greater Clevelanders annually benefit from United Way efforts. United Way is convener and member of the Community Vision Council, an organization consisting of leaders in government, education, nonprofits, philanthropy and other sectors who participate in a community-wide effort to serve as a catalyst for meaningful change in Greater Cleveland.

The renamed “Social Insecurity” and “Medicareless” agencies will be overhauled, and the candidates are researching fixing the electronic voting machine situation. “Remember,” they say, “it’s not the people who vote that change things, it’s the people that count the votes that change things.”

Though new as co-Presidential contenders, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers David Crosby and Graham Nash are a longtime team whose official collaboration began with 1969’s self-titled Crosby, Stills & Nash album debut. (07/23/04) -- As we reported this week, David Crosby and Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills & Nash announced their campaign for "Joint Presidency" of the United States, which is an obvious publicity stunt for their new album. When asked about their campaign, Crosby and Nash weighed in on Michael Moore's new controversial film, Fahrenheit 9/11. Here's Nash's take on the film: "I think it's an, a very important piece of art. Is it flawed? Of course it is. It's a documentary for God's sake. I mean, they're flawed. Is it biased? Of course it is. Is it profound? Of course it is. It's beautiful, it's heartbreaking, it's funny, and I think that every single person in the country should see it, and they should make their own minds up, but they should see it."

Rocker Crosby Sings About Corporate Crime

HOUSTON - He was intimate with the counterculture in the 1960s and a Texas prison in the 1980s. Now the current decade has prompted David Crosby (news) to train his pen and his voice on corporate crime — primarily Enron and its founder, Kenneth Lay.

The 5 1/2-minute song "They Want It All" that Crosby wrote for a new CD with Graham Nash, "Crosby-Nash," faults corporate leaders for bleeding companies of money and ripping off employees and investors.

One lyric says: "These people that they stole from whose lives they laid to waste/They should meet them all face to face/And explain just why their mama didn't teach them not to steal/If you want us to believe in justice, justice better be real."

Neither Enron nor Lay are mentioned by name, but Crosby told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Friday, "It's about Enron, no question. When I introduce it, I say it's about Enron."

The two-time inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame said he was inspired by what he saw as plodding justice for Lay and other executives accused of crimes that led to Enron's collapse.

"If they can bust me, they can bust him," Crosby said. "The law should work for everybody."

Thirty people have been charged since the government launched its investigation into Enron's collapse.

Crosby, 62, a founding member of both the Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, spent nearly a year behind bars on a conviction of drug and gun possession charges. He was paroled in 1986, and the conviction was overturned more than a year later. Last month he pleaded guilty to a gun charge in Manhattan and was fined $5,000 after a March arrest on marijuana and gun possession charges.

"I may have broken the law, but there weren't victims," Crosby said.

Michael Ramsey, Lay's main criminal lawyer, hadn't heard the song but read some of the lyrics in an e-mail from The Associated Press.

"I take it seriously," Ramsey said. "Nobody knows more about money and crime than David Crosby."

Earlier this week Ramsey described charges of conspiracy, fraud and lying to banks filed last month against Lay as "tissue-thin." Lay told The Associated Press last month he grieved for those hurt by Enron's fall and he didn't know some of his trusted executives were committing crimes.

Crosby and Nash TV Spot Banned

David Crosby and Graham Nash have run afoul of US television networks who are refusing to run spots to promote their tour because they are too political.

Television commercials for the tour feature a mock run for a joint presidency. In July, the pair announced they would jointly run for President of the United States later this year in an obvious tongue in cheek campaign. Neither qualify for the job because Crosby is a convicted felon and Nash is British.

Crosby and Nash promised to alternate the job of Commander in Chief by flipping a coin every Monday.

TNT and Viacom didn't see the joke. Both networks have banned the commercials claiming they are "too political".

DVDs Spotlight Crosby, Stills & Nash

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Rhino will release on Oct. 26 a three-DVD set spotlighting the on- and off-stage activities of Crosby, Stills & Nash.

In addition to the recently released concert DVDs "Acoustic" and "Daylight Again," the set includes the DVD debut of the 1990 documentary "Long Time Comin'," featuring interviews, TV performances and live clips.

"Acoustic" was taped at San Francisco's Warfield Theater in 1991 and boasts 16 numbers, including "Deja Vu," "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," "Our House," "Teach Your Children" and Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth."

Recorded in 1983 at Los Angeles' Universal Amphitheater, "Daylight Again" finds CSN touring in support of the album of the same name, released that year. Although David Crosby's substance abuse problems are apparent in his physical appearance and demeanor, the trio still pulls together strong performances of such tracks as "Wasted on the Way" and "Southern Cross."

"Long Time Comin"' presents a narration-free look into the band's history, including 11 full song performances and snippets of nine others. Among the highlights are an acoustic version of "Marrakesh Express" from the 1969 Woodstock festival and several live tracks from the group's 1977 tour, such as "Dark Star" and "Wooden Ships."

Clips of CSN members playing in other bands are also featured, including Crosby with the Byrds on "Hollywood A-Go-Go" in 1966, plus separate clips of Nash with the Hollies and Stills with Buffalo Springfield on "The Smothers Brothers Show" in 1967.

CSN will wrap a run of tour dates with performances Tuesday (Sept. 21) in Bend, Ore., Wednesday in Woodlinville, Wash., and Sept. 29 as part of the Vote for Change tour in Phoenix.
