According to AC/DC fan site Crabsody In Blue, late AC/DC singer Bon Scott has topped the list of 100 greatest frontmen published in the July 2004 issue of the U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine.

Это великий рок-н-ролльный коллектив. А какой драйв!! Ангус и Ко - те самые носители внутренней силы рок-н-ролла, которая с годами почему то исчезает у многих представителей этого жанра поп-музыки. Я обожаю АС/DC. Гнать по трассе под Let there be rock или на футбол под If you want blood - это супер! "Любить" женщину под T.N.T (точный размер скорости фрикций:)) или Lets get it up в момент максимальной оральной нежности - это многого стОит...

До сих пор тот концерт 91 года в Тушино я считаю лучшим концертом, который я посетил, да простят меня битломаны, лучше чем Маккартни и Пинк Флойд и Уотерс и Плант...

AC/DC Frontman Is On A Highway To Helen

AC/DC singer Brian Johnson is still hard at work on his upcoming musical about Helen of Troy. The singer was recently in Greece to film a documentary tracing the origins of one of Greece's most famous names.

Another US production has been documenting the early days of Brian's musical for an upcoming TV special to be called Highway To Helen. Johnson has spent the past six years working on the musical.

His version of the Helen of Troy story started out as a side-project to his work with AC/DC but delays in funding have lead to delays in the project ever getting off the ground. Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan is tipped to play Helen while British actor Malcolm Macdowell (A Clockwork Orange) has been selected as a Narrator. Macdowell recently made his recording debut singing one of the songs for the soundtrack in Brian's studio.

The story of Helen of Troy has been done before by Australia rocker Jon English whose 'Paris' musical is currently being licensed to small theatre groups for performances. English wrote his musical 20 years ago but only recently has had the show performed live.

AC/DC's Back In Black has now sold over 20 million copies in the U.S. along according to Billboard.

AC/DC Street Name Recommendation To Receive City Approval - July 7, 2004

Australia's The Age is reporting that Melbourne City Council is tonight expected to approve a recommendation to rename Corporation Lane, a narrow alley off Flinders Lane, "ACDC Lane", in honor of the band's global success. The idea was first suggested in The Age's rock column, Sticky Carpet, in May.

The Age believes the council's planning and development committee will give the go-ahead for the change, pending approval from the band and public submissions. There is already a street named Calle de AC/DC on the outskirts of Madrid. The final decision is expected to be made on July 29.

Lord Mayor John So said the band was a good ambassador for Australia and the council would also consider handing it the "keys to the city" if it received an official written request. An AC/DC spokesman said it would approve the renaming, as long as it was for the fans, and not politically motivated.

A council report found the name change was in tune with the city's historical and cultural policy, as the band has "strong links with Melbourne" and the lane is in the heart of the city's bar and rock district.

Cr Kimberley Kitching said there was strong support on council for recognizing the important contribution of musical and popular culture in Melbourne.

"AC/DC is a world-renowned band and they wrote most of their first album in Melbourne... we should honor that," she said.

Cr David Risstrom, who cites "It's a Long Way to the Top" as his favorite AC/DC song, is confident the council will support the renaming. "The public seem to really like the idea, so I think it will get up," he said.

The renamed laneway would be called ACDC Lane, not AC/DC Lane, as street names in the CBD are not permitted to have slashes.

ANGUS YOUNG: AC/DC Would Consider Playing Gig At 'ACDC Lane' - July 16, 2004

AC/DC guitarist Angus Young has told Australia's The Age that the group are completing work on a new album, with a release and tour scheduled for next year. He also said they would consider playing a gig at "ACDC Lane" — the proposed new name of "Corporation Lane" in Melbourne's central business district as a tribute to Australia's most successful band.

"It's a big thing for us," Angus said of the proposed name change. "There's also a couple of rocks that some kid scientist named after us — they've got a point there. Melbourne was our stomping ground in the early years, and we're very proud that our roots are in Australia. I grew up in Sydney but always found it a bit sterile, but Melbourne was always cosy. There was lots of inspiration in Melbourne, especially lyrics-wise for Bon, tracks like 'She's Got the Jack'. And the 'High Voltage' idea. We were doing publicity photo shoots and there we were, in front of a big high-voltage unit, so that kind of sparked the idea to call the album that."

HUNDREDS of rock fans are expected to descend on Wrexham for a weekend of quality music when the town plays host to the world's largest AC/DC convention.

Fans of the Australian rock group will be entertained with a weekend of partying featuring 10 tribute bands from all over the world on August 6-8.

The town's NEWI campus is the chosen venue for the event.

The headline act will be Welshman Dave Evans, the original singer with the band and founding member.

Two bands will play on the Friday evening, five on the Saturday (all day) and three on the Sunday, until 7pm.

After the Friday and Saturday shows there will be an aftershow party until 2am.

Event organiser Andy Whitfield said: 'There has never been a convention for AC/DC fans on a scale as large as this before.

'The main event will take place in a specially dressed venue on the campus, where the bands will perform on a replica of AC/DC's touring stage circa 1980, designed especially for the occasion.

'There will be two bands from America, Hayseed Dixie, a hillbilly tribute from Nashville, and AC/Dshe, a female tribute from San Francisco.'

Andy added: 'The website provides details of local accommodation in Wrexham during the event. The halls of residence at the university will cater for 300, there is camping close to the event and various additional student halls, hotels and guest houses within easy reach of the venue are also available.'

In addition to the music, there will be a large record/merchandise fair, an AC/DC photo exhibition, talks and seminars by specially invited music industry guests.

Three of the rock world's most respected photographers and graphic artists will host an exhibition of exclusive AC/DC photography and album artwork.

Fin Costello, Dick Barnatt and Steve Joule will be exhibiting rare examples of work from the early years of the band's history - from the mid 1970s, right up to the late 1980s.

This will include some images which have never been published before.

Dick Barnatt has worked with AC/DC on many occasions throughout their 30-year career, but was the first to photograph the band when they arrived in the UK to promote the Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap album in 1976.

He said: 'I was called to do some publicity shots for them in London the day after they arrived in the UK, but Bon (Scott) had been in a fight at the airport and had two black eyes which he'd had to cover up with shades!

'He still had his swagger and was full of confidence, maintaining that the other guy came off a lot worse, which when looking at him, I could well believe!'

The AC/DC convention will be a rare opportunity to view this unique collection of work, much of which has never been exhibited before and will be seen for the first time this August in Wrexham.

Name change plan rocks restaurateur

THE owner of Melbourne institution Rosati will fight a move to rename Corporation Lane in a tribute to rock band AC/DC.

Piero Gesualdi said the plan being considered by Melbourne City Council to call it ACDC Lane was inappropriate.

Mr Gesualdi, whose restaurant stands close to Corporation Lane, said the group had no relevance to the street. "AC/DC, as a band, has no affiliation with this area except for being belted out at 3am from a speaker," he wrote in a letter of objection to council.

"AC/DC would have no idea where this area was unless they came to Rosati for a coffee on their way to a gig," Mr Gesualdi said.

He said neighbouring law firms, banks, architects, galleries and major corporations opposed the plan.

"We all feel this name will have a negative impact on the area, rather than reflect the general environment of the area," he said.

A council team considering the plan described Corporation Lane as being grungy.

"Aren't all laneways grungy?" Mr Gesualdi asked.

Formed in Melbourne in 1973, AC/DC is Australia's biggest ever rock export. Its hits include You Shook Me All Night Long and Highway To Hell.

AC/DC Laneway Decision Deferred - July 29, 2004

News.com.au is reporting that a council decision on renaming a Melbourne central business district laneway in honour of legendary band AC/DC has been deferred until later in the year.

Melbourne City Council said last month it was considering changing the name of Corporation Lane, a narrow alley which runs off Flinders Lane, to AC/DC Lane as a tribute to the band. A decision had been expected last night.

But Lord Mayor John So said the council last night deferred making a decision on the renaming to allow the council to consider public submissions.

He said the council had received 30 submissions in favor of the proposed renaming and four against it.

"Some of the businesses in the area believe the bars around Corporation Lane, Flinders Lane and Duckboard Place do not reflect AC/DC music and any renaming should acknowledge the area's other characteristics," he said.

"Tonight's council meeting decided to defer the issue until September's planning committee meeting when all the submissions can be considered."

AC/DC fan site Crabsody In Blue is reporting that AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson made a guest appearance at the Rock and Blues Custom Show 2004 at Penrich Derbyshire in England on Saturday (July 31). Brian joined TWISTED SISTER during their set and performed a version of "Whole Lotta Rosie" with TS singer Dee Snider.

The original lead singer of Australian rock giants AC/DC is performing in his native Wales this weekend for the first time in 30 years.

Dave Evans, originally from Carmarthen, is a headlining act at what is being billed as the world's largest AC/DC convention in Wrexham.

Ten tribute bands will also perform to fans at NEWI college.

Dave emigrated with his family at the age of five, but said his Welsh roots are still strong.

He was among the founder members of the Australian band back in 1973 with brothers Malcolm and Angus Young.

But he left a year later after what he calls "fireworks" and "tensions" in the group - and the late Bon Scott joined.

The rocker's family had emigrated to Queensland from Wales when he was five-years-old, but he said he is looking forward to performing back in his homeland.

"I remember quite a bit about Carmarthen even though I was very young when the family emigrated. I was born in Park Hall and then moved to Mill Street. which was close to the centre of town," he said.

"The family used to visit Tenby quite a bit and my favourite place was Llansteffan and the castle there.

"I have been back to Wales a couple of times and have travelled over most of it including the ancient Isle of Mona - Anglesey," he said.

"Of course I see myself as an Australian most of the time as I live mostly in Australia and love so many things about this country. But, how can you not feel your Welshness?

"All Welsh people know that it is very special to be Welsh. I have the Welsh flag and a great map of Wales up in my living room in Australia."

Thousands of fans of the legendary rockers are expected to attend the weekend.

Dave said he will be headlining the three day festival and appearing as the main act on the Saturday night.

"I will be performing songs that I originally sang with AC/DC plus a couple of my own," said Dave.

"The Big Ball in Wrexham is something else. It will be huge on Saturday night."

Dave, who has enjoyed a career leading other bands, while AC/DC had worldwide success, has also recorded new material and is on a European tour.

All the bands playing over the weekend will perform on a replica AC/DC stage, complete with ramps round the back of the stage and a catwalk in front.

Tribute acts include Welsh band Seedy/DC.

Meanwhile, AC/DC are still going strong - last October fans snapped up more than 4,000 tickets in four minutes to sell out a one-off concert in a smaller venue at London's Hammersmith Apollo.
