Rock legend Eric Clapton received a heartbreaking love letter from his dead son just hours after the child's funeral, it was revealed last night.

Four-year-old Conor, who died in 1990 when he fell from the 53rd floor of a New York skyscraper, wrote his first letter to his father days before the accident.

The boy and his mother, Clapton's former girlfriend Lory Del Santo, posted the letter to Clapton in London - but before it was delivered, Conor was dead, killed after a cleaner left a window open in the Manhattan flat Del Santo was renting.

Details of the secret letter, and previously unseen video of Clapton with Conor, were shown when Del Santo appeared on an American television show.

The Italian model said: "The baby had learned to write a few words and he said to me, "Oh mummy, I want to write a letter to daddy, what shall I write?" I told him, "Well, write, I love you". He wrote that and we posted it like a regular letter.

"After Conor died, Eric and I arrived in London for the funeral. I was there when Eric received his mail just after the funeral and he opened it up and it was Conor's letter. That is a moment I cannot forget."

Clapton, 61, who has since remarried, now has three young children. He wrote the award-winning song Tears in Heaven in tribute to Conor.

The film that Del Santo, 45, unveiled on ABC's Primetime news programme has been locked away for 15 years.

The tapes show Conor playing with a miniature guitar and dancing to the Bob Dylan song Knocking On Heaven's Door.

She said: "I am the only one with tapes of Conor as he was. For years I could not bring myself to look at them. It was too painful. I kept them locked away. Now I want to remember how he lived, not how he died."

Conor is buried in Clapton's home town of Ripley in Surrey.

Guitar legend ERIC CLAPTON has developed the hearing problem tinnitus after spending years playing in front of blaring speaker stacks. The SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE rocker wishes he could go back and turn down the volume on some of his barnstorming 1960s performances with supergroup CREAM. He says, "My hearing isn't ruined but if I stop and listen, I've got whistling all the time, which I suppose is mild tinnitus. "I probably had two 100-watt stacks at the height of things and I would turn one on for solos. Just mad."

Rock icon ERIC CLAPTON has no plans to reform 1960s supergroup CREAM again because his bandmates JACK BRUCE and GINGER BAKER struggle to see eye-to-eye. The BADGE hitmaker performed with Bruce and Baker for sold out shows in London and New York City last year (05), but the squabbling between the two became so bad, he would rather stay solo. He says, "They just scrap over everything."

Music legends Eric Clapton and JJ Cale will release their first joint effort in November.

The album ‘The Road To Escondido’ brings full-circle where Clapton was on his first solo album from 1970. Clapton covered Cale’s ‘After Midnight’ on his self-titled album and continued the Cale covers with ‘Cocaine’ on 1977’s ‘Slowhand’, ‘I’ll Make Love To You Anytime’ on 1978’s ‘Backless’ and ‘Travelin’ Light’ on 2001’s ‘Reptile’.

Clapton’s covers made the reclusive Cale a reluctant star. “I didn't look at music as a career; I was just hanging out, having a good time” he once said. “I thought of writing songs like playing golf or going fishing. When Eric Clapton cut "After Midnight", I decided that I'd be a songwriter - although I really just wanted to play the guitar."

In 2004, Cale performed at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas. Clapton joined Cale on stage and the pair performed ‘After Midnight’ and ‘Call Me The Breeze’ together.

Clapton’s last collaborative effort was the 2001 album with B.B. King ‘Riding With The King’.

‘The Road To Escondido’ will be released through Clapton’s label Warner Music.

The first song from the album 'Ride The River' will be sent to radio in two weeks.
