Unfortunately the Eric Clapton performance scheduled to take place on August 3rd in Red Square, Moscow has been cancelled. Eric Clapton was delighted at the prospect of playing in Red Square before 20,000 of his Russian fans. The Russian promoter had been issued a permit for Eric Clapton to perform in Red Square signed by all appropriate Russian City and State authorities. However, earlier today, Russian officials withdrew the permit. Eric Clapton is extremely sorry to disappoint his numerous Russian fans but the circumstances of the cancellation are completely beyond his control. Ticket-holders should return their tickets to the box offices where they purchased the tickets for a refund.

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Eric Clapton's planned Aug. 3 concert in Moscow's Red Square has been canceled.
According to a spokesperson, the local promoter pulled the permit for the gig, although it had already been signed off on by city and state authorities. Refunds are available at points of purchase.

The Moscow show was to have closed Clapton's summer European tour. Instead, the last date will be Monday (July 31) in Helsinki. A North American outing with Robert Cray will get underway Sept. 16 in St. Paul, Minn.

MOSCOW - Eric Clapton’s scheduled concert on Red Square next week has been canceled after Russian authorities abruptly withdrew their permission, the guitarist’s publicist said.

A Russian promoter had received an official permit for Clapton to perform on Red Square on Thursday, but officials withdrew that Friday, Clapton’s publicist, Kristen Foster, said in a statement.

“Eric Clapton is extremely sorry to disappoint his numerous Russian fans but the circumstances of the cancellation are completely beyond his control,” she said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press service relayed a request for information to the Kremlin administrative department, which could not be reached for comment.

Yevgeny Safronov, the director of the InterMedia company that organized the concert, said the show appeared to be in jeopardy.

Moscow box offices on Saturday suspended the sales of tickets, which cost as much as $370.

Red Square Clapton gig cancelled

Musician Eric Clapton has called off a concert in Moscow's Red Square after Russian officials withdrew permission for the event.
The singer had been scheduled to play before 20,000 people on 3 August and had a permit "signed by all appropriate Russian city and state authorities".

According to his website, however, the permit was withdrawn on 28 July.

The statement said he was "extremely sorry" to disappoint his fans, but the situation was "beyond his control".

Clapton had intended to end his current European tour in Moscow. Instead it will now finish on Monday in Helsinki, Finland.

Reunion

The 61-year-old performs in the Swedish capital Stockholm on Saturday night.

Later this year he will tour the US and Canada with blues musician Robert Cray.

In 2005 Clapton joined his former Cream bandmates Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce for a handful of reunion concerts.

The British guitarist's many hits include I Shot the Sheriff, Wonderful Tonight and Layla, recorded as Derek and the Dominoes.

Eric Clapton and his band continued their trek through Scandinavia with a concert at Spektrum, in Oslo, Norway on 28 July and a concert at Globen, in Stockholm, Sweden on 29 July. Eric and his two guitarists - Doyle Bramhall II and Derek Trucks - tore up their fretboards on numbers like , the 1974 smash hit "I Shot The Sheriff, "Got To Get Better In A Little While," "Everybody Oughta Make A Change," and "Layla." The shows also featured a sit-down acoustic set featuring "Back Home", the title track of Eric's most recent CD, and more familiar songs like Derek & The Dominos' "I Am Yours" and "Running on Faith" from "Journeyman" (1989).
Robert Cray joined Eric early in the set for "Old Love," which they co-wrote for Eric's 1989 album, "Journeyman," and at the end of the set for "Crossroads." Chris Stainton's piano solo on "Little Queen of Spades" was outstanding and one of the evening's true highlights.

Eric Clapton played in Oslo Spektrum, and he is "GOD".

It was a night to remember, Clapton and his band was in a good mood, they were laughing on stage.. Eric let Doyle and Derek play a lot of solos, but Eric is the boss whenever he wants too be, he is "god" , i've never seen Eric played so good, like Peter Green was saying about Eric "If you catch Eric one a good night, there is no one to toutch him", this was a good night. and the best number was Layla, Wonderful Tonight was nice, and it was good to hear Eric play Futher On Up The Road again, a song he played in the 70's...
Robert Cray played with Eric on Old Love and Crossroads. Well, with four master guitarist, a call it a master session.. By the way, Eric Clapton is "GOD"

The concert is given 5 out of 6 in the biggest newspapers, Nettavisen,VG and Dagbladet...

...at Globen, in Stockholm, Sweden on 29 July...
