Я так слышал из его собственнных уст в одном из интервью, что он вынужден был быть единственным трезвенником в коллективе - во-первых, субстанции сажают голос, а во-вторых, остальные трое постоянно были подшофе; должен же был кто-то быть при них трезвый.
Если не ошибаюсь, это из бонус-видеоинтервью то ли к делюкс-переизданию DVD The Kids Are Alright, то ли к DVD Live in Boston.

Pete Townshend says one reason why it's taken so long for the Who to record a new album is that most of the songs he now writes don't fit the band's sound in singer Roger Daltrey's judgment. "To get 15 songs ready to release I need to have written 750 songs or 'pieces' of some kind," Townshend writes online, adding, "With luck we should see a great new Who record before I drop dead."

DALTRY RELIVES BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR

THE WHO legend ROGER DALTRY credits his latest acting role with teaching him to truly understand Britain's heroic history.

The singer-turned-actor stars in UK TV network Channel 4's forthcoming drama TRAFALGAR BATTLE SURGEON as an the assistant to HMS Victory surgeon WILLIAM BEATTY, who attended the fatally injured ADMIRAL HORATIO NELSON following the battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805.

And he insists acting out the historical event has given him a far greater insight into the past than his school history lessons ever did.

Daltry says, "At school they teach you dates instead of the relevance.

"It seems as you get older, you realise that these events have a significance for life today.

"To think about the gunners sailing 30 minutes into gunfire without returning a shot, or the marines standing up like toy soldiers on the deck in their red uniforms.

"That mentality is incredible to me - and they did it with such discipline."

The show, TRAFALGAR BATTLE SURGEON, will be screened in Britain next Monday (31AUG05).

The Who help launch download site

Rock band The Who are to team up with McFly to record a version of their legendary 1965 hit My Generation to launch HMV's digital download site.
The high street music chain, which launches its site on Monday, will be up against rival Virgin which launches its own download service on Friday.

More than 10 million songs were legally downloaded from the internet in the UK during the first half of 2005.

Digital downloads made up 5% of global music sales in that time.

However the popularity of portable music players such as the iPod has led to a boom in online services.

Just a handful of legitimate online music stores were in existence two years ago - now there are about 300 different services up and running, including Napster and Apple's iTunes.

HMV Digital will provide customers with a choice of paid-for downloads or a monthly subscription service.

The company will also create HMV Digital sections in its 200 stores around the UK to offer help to would-be downloaders.

"One of the wonderful things about music is the way it spans all generations to bring fans together, whatever their age and background," said Mark Bennett, HMV head of digital.

"My Generation is, without doubt, and all-time classic... I can't think of a better iconic anthem for HMV's new download service as it reaches out to existing fans and a new generation of music buyers alike."

Virgin Digital users will also be able to choose from either a pay-as-you-go service or a monthly subscription, costing under £10 per month.

Users will be able to sample songs before they buy from a catalogue of one million tracks.

Sir Richard Branson will virtually launch the service at Virgin's flagship store in London on Friday via a 3D hologram of himself - despite being thousands of miles away on his private Caribbean island, Necker.

He said: "Seeing as Virgin is going digital, I thought I'd do the same."

A Pete Townshend solo best-of anthology will be released Nov. 15 as part of Universal Music's Gold series. The two-CD set will feature 34 tracks culled from the Who guitarist-singer's seven solo albums. The collection's packaging will include a 28-page booklet that features a biography, unseen photographs and track-by-track comments. Meanwhile, Townshend's solo catalog will be remastered and reissued with bonus tracks in 2006.

С появлением DVD формата перед настоящими ценителями предстала уникальная возможность увидеть записи шоу своих любимых исполнителей в хорошем качестве, а также почувствовать плюсы работы с диском на компьютере. Благо и сами музыканты не жалеют записей для издания на DVD, регулярно выпуская как новый материал, так и рартитетные концерты.
На этот раз для своих поклонников приготовили сюрприз легендарные The Who - теперь рок-оперы "Tommy" и "Quadrophenia" можно будет увидеть в собственных домашних кинотеатрах.

Релиз трёхдискового комплекта назначен на 7 ноября. Отрадно, что в издание войдут не только записи двух живых выступлений, но и никогда ранее не издававшийся видеоматериал вкупе с эксклюзивными интервью Роджера Долтри (Roger Daltrey) и Пита Таунсенда (Pete Townshend). На загадочном видеоматериале помимо прочего будет представлен кусочек выступления The Who в лондонском пабе, как раз перед тем, как группа выпустила свой первый успешный сингл "I Can't Explain".

На DVD войдёт запись "Quadrophenia", сделанная во время тура по США 1996/97 годов - тогда всё впервые было исполнено так, как изначально задумывали Таунсхенд и Долтри. "Tommy" представлена на втором диске в исполнениии 1989 года в Лос Анджелесе. Тогда для участия в опере были приглашены Элтон Джон (Elton John), Фил Коллинз (Phil Collins), Билли Айдол (Billy Idol), Патти ЛаБелль (Patti La Belle) и Стив Уинвуд (Steve Winwood).

На третьем диске собраны живые выступления группы и соло-хиты Таунсенда, в том числе редкие акустические версии песен Who, всего в общей сложности на два часа.
