Prince Andrew visits famous Beatles club in Liverpool
Delighted Prince Andrew won't have to wait until he's sixty four to visit 'The Cavern' for the first time, after he was treated to a Magical Mystery Tour.
The son of Queen Elizabeth looked thrilled as he left the famous rock and roll club in Liverpool, where The Beatles first performed on stage in 1961.
Dressed in a dark navy suit and patterned black and white tie, the 51-year-old attended a private party at the renowned tourist attraction to celebrate the start of The Duke of York Young Champions Trophy.
The four day annual tournament for junior golfers is being held at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, Wirral, which hosted the 2006 British Open.
Onlookers standing on the city's world renowned Mathew Street were left stunned by the appearance of the Royal Fab Four fanatic.
Tourist Shannon McKinley, from Northern Ireland, said: "I've never been to Liverpool before and wanted to come and see the Cavern but the guys on the door said it was closed for a private party.
"So I was absolutely shocked when HRH Prince Andrew came up the stairs.
"The last thing I expected to see walking down Mathew Street was a member of the royal family.
"He had a beaming smile as he left the club."
The amateur golf event has brought through some of the sport's most illustrious talent with US Open champion Rory McIlroy finishing second in the 2004 competition.
Speaking on the golfing event's website, Prince Andrew said: "I am delighted to support the development of junior golf through this event and look forward to welcoming the 2011 Junior Champions to Royal Liverpool Golf Club in September and celebrating the tournament's 10th Anniversary.
"It is through this sort of competition that future great golfers, both professional and amateur, will be identified and encouraged.
"There are so many talented young sports people and I am determined to assist with their endeavours."
