FURY AT GLASTO TICKETS CHAOS Apr 3 2004

FURIOUS fans last night lashed out at a music festival ticket fiasco.

The Glastonbury Festival ticket hotline went into meltdown as soon as sales began.

Just 60 operators tried to handle 300,000 calls from fans desperate for Ј112 tickets to the three-day event.

Phone lines and the Glasto website were jammed for more than 16 hours.

Nurse Paul Quinn, 26, from Birmingham, said yesterday: 'It's a complete and utter shambles.

'Glasto is all about peace, love and chilling out to the music but trying to buy a ticket this time has been one of the most stressful events of my life.

'The line was busy for 16 hours. I give up.'

Oasis and Beatles great Sir Paul McCartney will headline the extravaganza.

The 112,000 tickets went on sale at 8pm on Thursday and sold out yesterday afternoon.

Festival supremo Michael Eavis, 68, said: 'We were selling over 100 tickets per minute.

'We could have got in a whole lot of computer software and sold them in a couple of hours but I don't think that would be better.

'It's the highest volume of calls we have ever had, but this way everyone had a chance of getting to the festival.'

Tickets will have the buyer's name and address printed on the back in a clampdown on touts. Buyers will have to bring ID to verify the briefs.

But tickets were being sold on an internet auction site yesterday for Ј620 a pair.

The site said: 'Details of how to get round the restrictions will be given to the winning bidder.

'Don't worry if you lose out on this auction, we'll have loads more between now and Glastonbury.'

The Prague concert location has changed to Park Kolbenova (Prague 9) No idea what is the reason though.

Municipal disapproval of the concert venue in Chodov was behind the venue change in Prague. The new location Kolbenova Park is closer to the center and situated in Prague 9 - Vysocany (100 m from the metro B station "Kolbenova"). The organizers assure that purchased tickets with the former venue (T-Mobile Park, Chodov) are valid. Cathegories and seats quality is conserved. Attendance of 60.000 people is expected.

PAUL McCartney has hired ELEVEN personal language tutors in a bid to become multilingual.


The super-rich ex-Beatle is going on a European tour this summer — and has decided he wants to communicate with fans everywhere in their own lingo.

He has recruited tutors from Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, the Czech Republic and France for crash courses.

Sir Paul, 61, will continue his lessons while he is on the road.

An aide said last night: “He’s a very hardworking musician and doesn’t want to rest on his laurels. He pushes himself to go that extra mile.

“He’s always been fascinated by language.”

Sir Paul kicks off his summer tour in Gijon, Spain, on May 20 and plays 14 dates up to his headline appearance at the Glastonbury Festival.

Macca told to keep noise down

Sir Paul McCartney has been forced to turn down his practice sessions at the Millennium Dome after complaints from residents.

He is reported to have paid £250,000 to rent the venue for three weeks as a practice space, in preparation for his European tour.

But locals complained the noise was travelling across the river and into their homes in the Isle of Dogs.

After inspections by environmental health officers, Sir Paul has agreed to keep the noise down to 92 decibels.

Local resident Eric Pemperton, 67, said: "I thought someone was listening to a ghettoblaster in one of the other flats.

"I had the windows closed and the front door just open enough to let the cat in and out.

"It took me a while to realise that this bass was coming from the Dome on the other side of the river."

He added: "I rang up the environmental health officers at the council and they told me 'It's Paul McCartney'.

"I said 'So what?, he doesn't pay my rates, and if it was me that was doing this I would have been prosecuted'.

"I don't care who it is. It is bad enough that he arrives every morning in a noisy helicopter. I thought it was quite unacceptable and even my cat was disturbed."
