EMERSON LAKE & PALMER
BEYOND THE BEGINNING
LEGENDARY PERFORMANCES
RARE, PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED MATERIAL
13TH JUNE 2005
Between 1970 and 1978, Emerson Lake and Palmer were one of the most exciting rock bands on the planet. From their stunning start at the Isle of Wight Festival, they were never afraid to tear up the rule book and take risks, both on stage and on record.
On 13th June 2005, Sanctuary Visual Entertainment will release "Beyond The Beginning" - ELP's definitive 2-disc DVD collection of legendary performances, rare and previously unreleased material.
A year in the making, this stunning 2-disc set pulls together the great moments from one of the 70's most successful and exciting bands. For most of this decade, this dynamic trio pushed back the boundaries of what was possible in rock.
Ambitious musical projects, massive, over the top stage shows and an insatiable desire to try bigger and better things meant that it could not last, but for several years, this was 70's rock at its very best.
This 2-disc DVD set includes performances from every stage of their career, including 44 minutes of ELP headlining the massive California Jam festival in 1974 (Disc 2). This rare and spectacular footage has never been released before and captures the band at the peak of their powers with a production to match. Much sought after by fans, this film includes the famous spinning piano sequence.
Extras include a 17 minute, never-before-seen film of ELP in rehearsal and demonstrating the extraordinary level of musicianship that defined their recordings and live show.
There is also a newly discovered film of the band participating in a celebrity motor race at Brands Hatch in 1973, an exclusive analysis of the ELP album covers and a new interview with Bob Moog, the original inventor of the synthesizer, who worked so closely with Keith Emerson, Greg Lake and Carl Palmer talk about the band's formation, rise to glory and decline in the late 70's and the personal dynamics that drove the band. Illustration comes from newly restored super 8mm film from the band's own archives. Contributions also come from band managers, past and present, Harvey Goldsmith (ELP's longtime promoter) and Keith Altham, who handled the bands PR in the 70's.
"We've had so much fun working with the band and their wonderful material. It's easy to forget just what an amazing period the 70's were for rock music and we've tried to capture some of the madness and trailblazing work that ELP did and to remind people of a time when the giants of rock bestrode the world". - Nick Ryle, Producer and Director.
