Ringo Starr's son joins Oasis for charity gig

Oasis are putting together a rock supergroup for a one-off gig - and they've hired Ringo Starr's son on drums.

Zak Starkey will join Noel and Liam Gallagher and guitarist Gem Archer to do the gig in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Starkey, who is to tour with The Who, is a huge fan of Oasis and rang Noel GalaGallagheroffer his services. He's spent the last two days rehearsing with the Gallagher brothers and Archer in a north London studio

The Who's Roger Daltrey and Stereophonics singer Kelly Jones are also set to perform, says The Sun.

The Coral and Tom Jones will also be performing during a week of fundraising which includes a cream of British comedy night. That will include Steve Coogan as Alan Partridge with Little Britain stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams.

The annual concerts, which have raised £2million to date, were the brainchild of Daltrey, who is a patron of the trust. He said: "It is fantastic that we have another line-up of exceptional shows."

Oasis are quite open about their Beatle adoration, as you can see from these numerous references...
a) Liam Gallagher, the lead singer, named his first son Lennon.
b) He also once said, "We're bigger than Jesus..."
c) The song "Be Here Now" on the album of the same name, includes the lyric,"Sing a song for me one from Let It Be..."
d) In "Do Ya Know What I Mean", a lyric goes "The fool on the hill and I feel fine..."
e) "Fade In Out" has the lyric,"So get on the Helter Skelter..."
f) In the song "What's The Story Morning Glory" there's a lyric that goes, "Tomorrow Never Knows what it dosen't know too soon..."
g) Another song lyric, from "Supersonic", "Can I ride with you in your BMW, you can sail with me in my Yellow Submarine"
h) In "My Big Mouth"... " I got somethin' in my shoes it's keepin' me from walkin' down The Long and Winding Road and backhome to you."
i) The song "Don't Look Back In Anger" has a direct quote from John Lennon... "Gonna start a Revolution from my bed, 'cos you said the brains I had went to my head." The opening keys are almost exactly the same as those of "Imagine".
j) From "Rocking Chair"... "It's hard enough sittin' there, rockin' in your rockin' chair, It's All Too Much To Take when you're not there"
k) The video to 'All Around The World" is very Yellow Submarine-ish.
l) There's a song called "Magic Pie" that is a reference to Paul McCartney's album Flaming Pie.
m) In the video to "Don't Go Away" there are a lot of scenes with people carrying umbrellas... it looks a lot like a scene from "Eleanor Rigby" in Yellow Submarine.
n)Their publishing company is called Helter Skelter.

Liam Gallagher To Form Supergroup

Liam Gallagher from Oasis is planning on launching a new supergroup before Christmas, according to the UK Sun.

The Sun says Gallagher has so far recruited George Harrison's son Dhani and former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire for the group and is looking for more members.

Liam will be the lead singer of the band.

Oasis are still together and recording a new album but stories of an appearance at this year's Glastonbury Festival have not been confirmed. Reports also surfaced last month about an impending split in the ranks between the Gallagher brothers but Oasis fans read that more as Liam just being Liam and Noel just being Noel.

If an album comes from the new supergroup it will mark the debut of Dhani Harrison, who played guitar with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and Eric Clapton at the concert for his father The Concert for George.

The Stone Roses were only around for a couple of years but recorded the landmark album 'Fool's Gold'. After that, Squire went on to form The Seahorses who again only produced one album, the critically acclaimed 'Do It Yourself' in 1997.

In March this year he released his second solo album 'Marshall's House' independently.

LIAM GALLAGHER is forming his own supergroup – and they will record an album for Christmas.

The OASIS frontman will team up with the former STONE ROSES’ guitarist JOHN SQUIRE and the late BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON’s son DHANI.

The trio hope to start recording tracks later this year and are now looking for other big names to step forward and join them.

Liam, whose first single with Oasis was Supersonic, will take lead vocals, with Dhani and John on guitars.

This will be the wildman’s pet project outside Oasis and he has already had lengthy telephone conversations and meetings in North London with the other two.

A pal of the star told me: “Liam is an ambitious lad and thinks the music scene needs an injection of something exciting. He knows Dhani and John and has huge respect for their talents.

“They have discussed getting together for a one-off album and are now interested in getting other big names involved.

“In the summer they will properly sit down and start writing some tracks together with a view to getting something out for Christmas.”

Fellow Manc John is an old pal of Liam’s and is credited with being the creative genius behind The Stone Roses. But his success after the band split up in 1994 has been patchy.

John released an average album called Do It Yourself with his new band THE SEA HORSES — an anagram of “he hates Roses” — and has had two solo albums since of limited success. Dhani performed The Beatles’ While My Guitar Gently Weeps when his dad was posthumously entered into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in New York in March this year.

Liam spent the early part of 2004 holed up with brother NOEL, GEM ARCHER and ANDY BELL in studios in Cornwall recording their sixth album. But as Oasis are going through a rough patch it is unlikely to be ready before the end of the year.

Liam is now on a break in London.

Beatle John

LIAM GALLAGHER 'SUPERGROUP' REPORTS DENIED

LIAM GALLAGHER will NOT be forming a supergroup with JOHN SQUIRE, it has emerged.

Reports in The Sun newspaper over the weekend suggested that the Oasis singer was teaming up with the former Stone Roses guitarist and Dhani Harrison, son of late Beatle George Harrison.

However, a spokesperson for Gallagher vehemently denied the rumours in a statement.

It read: "The welcome heat of Sunday's weather in London must have got to the editorial staff at The Sun newspaper, so much so that they dreamed up a bizarre story about Liam Gallagher forming a supergroup with John Squire."

"Liam is already in a supergroup called Oasis, and far from taking a break in London, as The Sun story would have us believe, he is busy and recording and mixing the next Oasis album, due for release later this year."

MANCHESTER UNITED!

NOEL GALLAGHER and IAN BROWN have collaborated on a track for the former STONE ROSES vocalist's new album.

According to The Sun newspaper, the pair met by chance at the Electric Cinema in London’s Notting Hill.

"We got talking about music and agreed we should do something," explained Brown .

He added: "Noel sent me some music he’d done and I recorded a vocal. The result is brilliant, I’m really excited. I hope it will be a single."

The news comes after denials from the Oasis camp that Liam was to form a supergroup with ex-Roses guitarist John Squire. As previously reported on NME.COM, the band claim the story was "dreamed up" by editorial staff at The Sun.

Oasis are currently working in the studio on the follow-up to ’Heathen Chemistry’, which is due for release later this year.

Brown’s new album is expected in August or September.

Oasis top best album poll Oasis top best album poll

Oasis have beaten their heroes the Beatles to the title of Best British Album Ever.

Their 10-year-old creation, Definitely Maybe, has topped a staff poll of 50 best albums by Q magazine.

Second on the list is the Fab Four's Revolver, released in 1966, almost 30 years before the Oasis debut.

The poll comes after the Mancunian band, who have always looked to the Beatles for inspiration, signed Zak Starkey, the son of former Beatle Ringo Starr as their latest drummer.

The Gallagher brothers experienced supersonic success after they were discovered, with Definitely Maybe becoming the fastest-selling album of all time.

The band also beat heavyweights such as the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, and Pink Floyd in the survey of the music magazine's staff.

The Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet comes seventh, The Smiths' The Queen is Dead eighth, Led Zeppelin's Led Zeppelin III came ninth, and Massive Attack's Blue Lines 10th.

The Sex Pistols' Never Mind The B******s Here's the Sex Pistols comes third on the list, followed by Radiohead's OK Computer.

The poll is featured in the July issue of Q which is out on June 1.

Oasis Looks Back With 'Definitely' DVD

Oasis is eyeing a Sept. 6 release date for "Definitely Maybe -- The DVD," commemorating the 10-year-anniversary of the U.K. rock act's debut album of the same name. While full details have not been announced, the package will apparently include the original album, augmented by the rare B-side "Sad Song."

Of greater interest to fans will be four hours of archival and new footage, an hour-long documentary about the "Definitely Maybe" recording sessions, concert and TV performances of such singles as "Live Forever" and "Supersonic" and interviews with band members and associates.

Earlier this year, the band solicited photos and videos from the "Definitely Maybe" era for potential inclusion in the new project, but it is unknown if any of this material made the final cut.

Although not an immediate smash in the United States, "Definitely Maybe" eventually reached No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and has sold 742,000 copies here, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It set the stage for Oasis' full-scale assault on North America with 1995's "(What's the Story) Morning Glory," which has sold 3.6 million copies.

The Noel and Liam Gallagher-led band has kept a low profile over the past year while working on its next studio album. The group will return to the live stage June 23 in Dorset, England, as a precursor to an appearance two days later at the annual Glastonbury Festival.
Здорово!

Oasis demand drugs-free zone at Glasto

Liam and Noel Gallagher have reportedly insisted on a drugs free zone when they play Glastonbury this week.

The Oasis frontmen told organisers they do not want any trace of illegal substances backstage.

The Gallaghers were notorious for their bad boy image but say that's all behind them now.

"They have done the whole bad-boy rock thing and now they are respectable adults with children," a source close to festival organisers told the Daily Star.

OASIS RETURN!

OASIS are set to play their first gig of the year tonight - and NME.COM will be the first place to get a review!

The group warm-up for this weekend’s headlining slot at Glastonbury with a show at the Poole Lighthouse, Dorset (June 23).

The gig is their first since a small run of dates in Germany and Ireland in March 2003, and their smallest UK date with the full band since the start of 2002.

It will also be the first chance fans will have to see new drummer Zak Starkey, who will be filling in for Alan White, who left the band earlier this year.

Noel Gallagher recently said the band were planning on playing two new songs from their currently unfinished album during their Friday (June 25) night slot at Glasto, so there’s also a chance they’ll road test them tonight as well.

He said: "We weren't going to do any (new songs) but we timed the set and we came up short. We were doing all the ones that we wanted to do and then the tour manager said 'That's about an hour', so I said 'How long do we have to play? And he said 'An hour-and-a-half'. We'll be doing two new songs I think."

OASIS RETURN!

OASIS played their first gig of the year - and gave their biggest hints yet to the songs they’ll be playing at this weekend’s GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL.

The group warmed-up for this weekend’s headlining slot on the Pyramid Stage with a show at the Poole Lighthouse, Dorset (June 23).

The gig is their first since a small run of dates in Germany and Ireland in March 2003, and their smallest UK show with the full band since 2002.

The band’s 90 minute set was mainly comprised of greatest hits, but also featured two songs set to appear on their as-yet-untitled new album - ’A Bell Will Ring’ and ’The Meaning Of Soul’.

’A Bell Will Ring’ has been described by NME.COM’s reporter at the gig as a mid-tempo track in a similar vein to ’Live Forever’ or ’Songbrid’, while ’The Meaning Of Soul’, written by Liam, is a full on rock number reminiscent of ’Bring It On Down’.

The set ended with a cover of The Who’s ’My Generation’.

It was the first chance fans had to see new drummer Zak Starkey, who filled in for Alan White, who left the band earlier this year.

The setlist ran:

’Fuckin’ In The Bushes’
’Rock & Roll Star’
’Bring It On Down’
’Supersonic’
’Morning Glory’
’Columbia’
’A Bell Will Ring’
’Stop Crying Your Heart Out’
’Little By Little’
’The Hindu Times’
’Cigarettes & Alcohol’
’Live Forever’
’The Meaning Of Soul’
’Acquiesce’
’Champagne Supernova’
’Songbird’
’Wonderwall’
’Don’t Look Back In Anger’
’My Generation’

Support at the show came from The Bees.
