Cream have curdled

Sunday October 30, 12:35 PM

Rock gods Cream are thought to have performed together for the last time, after rounding off their reunion tour at New York City's Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night (26OCT05).

It was the first time the Sunshine Of Your Love hitmakers had taken to the famous American stage since 1968, and the group's promoter has said Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce have no plans to play together again.

Kristen Foster, who acts as publicist and promoter for Cream, says, "The band has no plans for the future."

Guitar legend Clapton is reported to have instigated this year's (05) reunion concerts in London and New York City, because he wanted to play with Baker and Bruce again before their health problems made it impossible.

Yvonne Elliman had a brief moment in the spotlight during the middle of the '70s, yet she appeared on many of the decade's biggest hits as a backing singer. While she was in high school in Hawaii, Elliman sang in a group called We Folk. She moved to London in 1969 and began singing at the Pheasantry folk club, located on Kings Road in Chelsea. It was here that songwriters Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice discovered her. The duo offered her the role of Mary Magdalene in their new rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar; the role brought her instant fame. Elliman played the Magdalene character in the film version of Superstar, for which she won a Golden Globe award; it also gave her a hit with I Don't Know How to Love Him. The hit single became the title of her debut album, which was released in 1972. Pete Townshend helped Elliman prepare her second album, 1973's Food of Love. During this time, she appeared in the American production of Jesus Christ Superstar on Broadway, where she met Bill Oakes, the president of RSO Records; the two married soon afterward. Oakes introduced her to Eric Clapton, inviting her to sing backup vocals on I Shot the Sheriff. Elliman became part of the guitarist's band afterward; she stayed with him for five years.Yvonne Elliman had a brief moment in the spotlight during the middle of the '70s, yet she appeared on many of the decade's biggest hits as a backing singer. She joined RSO's roster in 1975, releasing the Steve Cropper-produced Rising Sun. Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb wrote the title song for Elliman's next album, 1976's Love Me; the song became a U.K. hit, paving the way for her greatest chart success, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The Bee Gees wrote several songs on the soundtrack specifically for Elliman, including the number one single "If I Can't Have You." She never followed through on the song's success — she released two more albums before becoming solely a session musician.

Marcy Levy (backing vocals)

A member of Bob Seger Band in 1973, she joined Eric Clapton in September 1974, appearing in several albums. In August 1978, she left Eric to start her own career. But, some years later, she came back to Eric band in March 1984. She released some singles: 'Help me' (1980), 'Close to her / Waiting on you' (1982), as well as an album called Marcella (1982). Why this name? Because she changed her name to Marcella Detroit, when forming the pop duo Shakespear's Sister, until 1993. Then, she released another solo album, called Jewel.

During his stay in Clapton's band, she not only sang, but also cowrote some hits, such as 'Lay down Sally'.

Shaun MurphyShaun Murphy

Stoney went on to be a backing singer for Bob Seger's band soon after splitting with Motown. However by the early eighties she had dropped the moniker of Stoney and became known as Shaun Murphy. She continued to work with Bob Seger until the mid nineties and also in this period worked with Michael Bolton, the Moody Blues, Bruce Hornsby, Alice Cooper, Phil Collins and Eric Clapton.

In 1994 Shaun joined the band Little Feat. This band has existed since as far back as 1969 when it was formed by Lowell George. The band produced a number of critically acclaimed albums in the seventies but had already split at the time of Lowell's death during a solo tour in 1979. However the remaining members of the band got back together again in the mid-eighties and with the addition of a new lead vocalist, Craig Fuller, began recording new songs and returned to touring. Shaun provided some backing vocals on the bands three albums released between1988 and 1991 and when Craig Fuller decided to leave the band, having had enough of the constant touring, Shaun was invited to join the band full time. The band's first release with Shaun as a fully-fledged member of the band was "Ain't Had Enough Fun". This release in particular showcases her talents as Shaun provides the lead vocals or duets with another member of the band on nine of the thirteen tracks. She can also be heard providing some of the lead vocals on their subsequent studio albums "Under The Radar", "Chinese Work Songs" and "Kickin' It At The Barn" as well as their recent live recording "Down Upon The Suwannee River".
