ABKCO Plans Stones Singles Boxes

ABKCO Records will release three box sets of the Rolling Stones singles recorded between 1963 and 1971.

The first set, "The Rolling Stones Singles 1963-1965," is due May 4 and featured 12 CDs beginning with the group's first studio recordings from the spring of 1963. "The Rolling Stones Singles 1965-1967" and "The Rolling Stones Singles 1968-1971" will bow in the summer and fall, respectively.

Each of the 12 discs in "The Rolling Stones Singles 1963-1965" will be packaged in a picture sleeve displaying original artwork; the discs will approximate the original vinyl 45 rpm singles. Featuring 33 songs in all, the set also includes a 28-page booklet of rare photos and annotation, and an essay by Nigel Williamson, editor of Billboard's weekly "Global Pulse" column.

The series marks the first time three Rolling Stones EPs previously released on vinyl in the United Kingdom -- 1964's "Five By Five" and "The Rolling Stones EP" and 1965's "Got Live If You Want It" -- will be issued on CD. "Got Live If You Want It" includes recordings of "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" and "Pain in My Heart" never before released on CD.

In August 2002, ABKCO Records released "The Rolling Stones Remastered," 22 titles encompassing their LP releases between 1963 and 1970 as well as several compilations. Those titles were issued on dual-layer, hybrid Super Audio CD.

Stones Singles Get Boxed

Early years covered in May release

A trio of box sets will compile the Rolling Stones' ABKCO hits and B sides starting with The Rolling Stones Singles 1963-1965, due May 4th.
The twelve-disc set will replicate the original artwork of the Stones' original 45s along with a new essay about the band by Nigel Williamson. Among the cuts on 1963-1965 are the band's Chuck Berry cover "Come On" from 1963 with its Muddy Waters B side "I Want to Be Loved." Other highlights of the set include a cover of the Beatles' "I Wanna Be Your Man," the instrumental "Stoned" that was nixed from a U.S. release, and three Eps -- The Rolling Stones EP, Five by Five and the Got Live If You Want It EP -- that have never been released on CD before. The band's early original hits also surface with "Time Is on My Side" and "Heart of Stone."

The second and third sets, The Rolling Stones Singles 1965-1967 and The Rolling Stones Singles 1968-1971 cover the band's most productive hitmaking years, when the Stones placed fifteen singles in the Top Forty including six Number Ones. 1965-1967 will be released later in the summer, with 1968-1971 due in the fall.

Rolling Stones New Album and Tour?

There is a lot of current activity in the Rolling Stones camp with an announcement suggesting the possibility of a new album and tour in 2005.

The last Stones studio album was Bridges To Babylon in 1997. The last new music from the band was a few songs included in the Forty Licks compilation.

A cryptic comment at their official website states "the band's members are working on an unspecified project that necessitated the cancellation of drummer Charlie Watts' plans to tour Europe in the summer". No further details are given.

Coming up, The Rolling Stones singles are to be packaged up and sold off in a boxed set. ABKCO Records, the owners of the Stones catalogue pre-1970 have announced the upcoming released a three Rolling Stones singles boxed sets.

The first box 'Singles 1963-1965' will feature 12 discs including the three E.P.s previously only available on vinyl 'The Rolling Stones', 'Five By Five' and 'Got Live If You Want It'. It will be released in May.

The Stones debut single 'Come On' and the b-side 'I Want To Be Loved' will be included in the first box. The song was recorded in May 1963 and released the next month.

The second box will follow midyear. It is 'The Rolling Stones Singles 1965-1967' and the final installment later in the year is 'The Rolling Stones Singles 1968-1971'.

Не прошло и полугода после завершения масштабного концертного турне Rolling Stones, как вновь загудел их "лагерь". Согласно появившимся недавно слухам, в 2005 году "Стоунз" не только выпустят новый альбом, но и проведут еще один тур.

Последний на сегодня полноценный студийный альбом "роллингов" "Bridges To Babylon" был издан еще в 1997 году. Правда, это не значит, что музыканты завязали с сочинением нового материала: несколько новых песен появилось уже в датируемом прошлым годом сборнике лучших хитов "Forty Licks". Продолжение последует уже в следующем году.
Согласно появившемуся на официальном сайте группы сообщению, все "роллинги" в настоящее время заняты в работе над новым проектом. Какой проект имеется в виду — пока не сообщается.

Напомним, что в ближайших планах группы также выпустить три бокс-сета с ранними синглами и би-сайдами. В первый из них, который будет называться "Singles 1963-1965" и выйдет в мае, войдет и самый первый сингл "Стоунз" — "Come On", записанный в 1963 году.

По поводу Синглов я слышал что японцы их делать будут а по поводу нового тура 2005 года до него дожить бы еще было бы не плохо

New book features Ian Stewart's photos of the band

"It was basically his band," says Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards of the late Ian Stewart in a lavish new book, Stu. A founding member who pre-dated both Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts, the Scotland-born Stewart left the limelight in 1963 but remained the Stones' pianist, road manager and blues conscience until his death after a stroke in 1985.
In addition to playing on Stones albums like Aftermath and Let It Bleed all the way through 1983's Emotional Rescue, Stewart played on classic recordings like Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, Howlin' Wolf's The London Howlin' Wolf Sessions and Pete Townshend and Ronnie Lane's Rough Mix.

Privately published by Out-Take Limited in an edition of 950 leatherbound copies, Stu features vivid tales of Stewart's life from the Stones and their circle, plus more than 500 illustrations, including Stewart's own rarely seen photos of the Stones at work and play, like the mid-Sixties beauty shown here. OLDHAM, ATHLETIC!

Legendary ROLLING STONES svengali ANDREW LOOG OLDHAM is to make a clutch of rare appearances in the UK later this month, presenting the first official screenings of a STONES concert film from the mid-1960s.

Oldham will travel from his home in Bogota, Colombia to present ‘Charlie Is My Darling’ in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Belfast.

The 50-minute film captures the band over three days in September 1965 playing shows in Belfast and Dublin. A behind the scenes documentary filmed entirely on hand-held camera, it also includes early performances of classics such as 'Get Off Of My Cloud' and '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction'.

The screenings come as part of the Triptych Festival in Scotland and the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival in Belfast. They will be at Glasgow GFT (April 28), Edinburgh Filmhouse (April 29), Aberdeen (May 1) and Belfast Northern Whig (May 3).

To coincide with Loog Oldham’s appearance in the UK, Decca Records will re-release The Andrew Oldham Orchestra album, 'The Rolling Stones Songbook', on May 10. The LP contains instrumental versions of many Stones classics , including ‘The Last Time’, famously sampled by The Verve on ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ in 1997.
