Хочу еще себе прикупить: George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic: Live At Montreux 2004 тоже лютый концерт говорят.

а я вот наконец-таки поимел "Marvin Gaye live in Montreux 1980". Приятный концерт. Только заметно, что Марвин "под мухой", палочки от барабана раняет...
Но поёт хорошо.

For 23 years, Ed Sullivan hosted an American institution, 'The Ed Sullivan Show'. R&B legends singing again for new label

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The musician who produced soul legend Solomon Burke's Grammy-winning 2002 album "Don't Give Up on Me" has started a label devoted to new work by veteran R&B performers.

The first release from Joe Henry's Work Song label will reach stores on October 4. "I Believe to My Soul" will feature newly recorded performances by Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Mavis Staples, Ann Peebles and Billy Preston.

Work Song is a partnership with Warner Music Group's archival label Rhino Records and Starbucks Entertainment's Hear Music unit. The album will be available nonexclusively at Starbucks and sold by conventional music retailers.

Singer-songwriter Henry, who also produced the recent album "I've Got My Own Hell to Raise" by soul veteran Bettye LaVette, had nursed the idea of a label dedicated to fresh recordings by classic R&B performers for three years.

"I thought most of the great soul artists were either relegated to the oldies circuit or being stuffed into what R&B has become," Henry said. "I had in mind this idea of a long, continuing series of records."

"I Believe to My Soul" was recorded in one week of June sessions at Capitol Studios in Hollywood. The writers among the featured performers brought in new tunes, while the interpreters selected songs they had not recorded before.

Toussaint, as well known as a producer and arranger as a singer, songwriter and keyboardist, was featured on four tracks and anchored the house band as well. "He's just a heavy number," Henry said.

Thomas said of the finished product: "It goes to show you that those of us who've been around for a while still have it. Maturity comes as you grow older."

In recognition of Toussaint and Thomas' deep roots in the New Orleans music community, Work Song, Rhino and Starbucks will contribute $10 of the Starbucks purchase price to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts; $3 of every copy purchased at music retail stores, where the package is listed at $18.98, also will be donated. The contributions to the American and Canadian Red Cross will continue for the lifetime of the album.

Thomas, who was in Austin when Katrina hit, will appear at a hurricane benefit Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden in New York. She said: "This is a project I would be on board with, even if I wasn't on the record and even if I wasn't one of the evacuees. ... When you're blessed, you're supposed to pass it on."

Интересно, насколько понравится, если понравится есть смысл изучить и другие пластинки благо он выпустил всего шесть альбомов.
А я вот в последние дни испытываю очередной приступ Isley Brothers мании, пересушиваю все альбомы подряд, ох и хороши они сволочи были в 70х, пластинки с 68 по 78 на мой взгляд все идеальны…

я тож через легион. но что то он всё меньше и меньше меня радует последнее время...

А Братья, как хорошее вино - со временем только лучше становятся) Просто с ума схожу от их "Givin' It Back". Ух, как же они там Машинган сыграли! Мурашки по коже)

Самое любопытное что меня не раздражают и их последние альбомы с Р. Келли, несмотря на современное звучание они не потеряли лица, правда одни медленные песни, но с настроением. А их Машинган несомненная классика современной музыки, правда одноименная композиция Комодорес тоже. Хотя если перечислять все, что нравится у братьев не хватит страницы…..
Кстати, а как вам нравится Commodores, я их очень люблю до 82 года, а потом полная ерунда….

Curtis Mayfield: Live At Ronnie Scott's

Filmed in 1988, just two years before a cruel stage accident left him wheelchair-bound and unable to perform, Curtis Mayfield Live at Ronnie Scott's showcases the undiminished talents of one of the late, great soulmen. In the 1980s, Mayfield enjoyed a revival of interest in Britain following the rare groove explosion, when clubbers weary of chart music, hip-hop and techno rediscovered the warmer, more organic sounds of 70s soulsters, though Mayfield is not to blame for the Luddite and austere white soul movement led by the likes of Paul Weller. Here, Mayfield is interviewed by Weller, to whom he explains his roots in church music. When pushed by the Style Council frontman on his radical political beliefs, Mayfield politely demurs, claiming, perhaps to Weller's dismay, to be apolitical. He describes America as "land of the free" and his backing musicians, strangely, wear stars and stripes tank tops.
Mayfield's music, though, bristles with attitude. Unlike subsequent hip-hoppers and garage acts, Mayfield was unequivocal in de-glamorising ghetto lifestyle. And though he wrote scores for films like Superfly, he consciously subverted their "blaxploitation". The message of songs like "Freddie's Dead" and "Pusherman", performed here, is that the desperate life of guns 'n' drugs is a crying shame. Mayfield spoke gently, sang sweetly and his soul arrangements floated like cream, but his music carried a huge stick. This 1988 performance is no retro-fest, but is as stirring and vital as his 70s heyday.

On the DVD: Curtis Mayfield Live at Ronnie Scott's has an introduction from Kevin Le Gendre which points up Mayfield's revolutionary qualities, particularly his setting up his own record label. He also provides individual audio commentaries for tracks, offering perspicacious remarks on "To Be Invisible", for instance, Mayfield's encore, based on Ralph Ellison's book The Invisible Man.

The Isley Brothers have enjoyed a long and distinguished career from the early fifties to the present day. They have enjoyed considerable chart success and huge album sales on both sides of the Atlantic and remain a major live draw. Their music has evolved to encompass a variety of styles from gritty R&B through Motown soul and on to blistering funk, all of which they have delivered with fine musicianship and considerable style.

The concert on this DVD was filmed in America in Spring 2005 and captures the band in excellent form led by Ron Isley's smooth vocals and Ernie Isley's hard edged guitar leads.

Virtually every track is a hit.
