August 2004 Collector's Issues Offer Fans Chance to Win Instruments Made
Famous by the Beatles
LOS ANGELES, June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- It has been 40 years since four
mop-topped lads -- George, John, Paul and Ringo -- set foot upon the stage of
the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, and forever changed rock music. In honor of that
historic year, Guitar Player's August issue is recognizing the guitar legacy
of the Beatles with a series of collector's issues available nationally on
newsstands June 29. Guitar Player magazine continues to be the No. 1, most
credible, and respected guitar publication worldwide.

John, George, and even Ringo. In addition, each issue includes a different
full-song transcription of a Beatles hit (well, except for Ringo -- who shares
a song with the Fab Four cover). Readers will also have the opportunity to win
one of 40 prizes including boxed-set editions of all five covers, the fabulous
Beatles Gear book, and one grand prize worth more than $5,000. The grand prize
winner will receive a "Fab" gear rig that features reissues of the Epiphone
Casino guitar used by John and Paul, as well as a new Vox Valvetronix
amplifier designed to look like the original Beatlemania-era Vox.
This is the first time a U.S. guitar magazine has published five different
collector's covers, and it's definitely the only time a solo image of Mr.
Starr has graced the cover of a guitar publication! Crazed Beatles fans will
likely do anything to get their hands on all five Guitar Player covers -- it
will almost be like reliving Beatlemania!
"It is said that the Beatles 1964 appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show
launched 1,000 bands," said Michael Molenda, Editor in Chief of Guitar Player.
"I think the main reason was because John and George showed millions of
viewers how cool and sexy it was to bash out rock and roll on some fab-looking
guitars and amps. On the 40th anniversary of the Beatle's first trip to
America, the Guitar Player staff thought it appropriate to really study the
affect that moment had on guitarists and guitarcraft. That performance was a
world-changing moment, and given that it heightened the profile of the guitar
in the eyes of the general public, that moment also made a magazine such as
Guitar Player possible."
Guitar Player magazine has led the industry for over 37 years with a
magazine designed and written for guitarists who live, breathe, smell, feel,
taste, think and live guitar -- all the time.
