Oh No Not You Again
The Rolling Stones played their new song "Oh No Not You Again" for the first time ever at the press conference today in New York. The new album is 85% ready, they said, and they will tour for 12 months all over the world, including Puerto Rico. The performance opened with a terrific version of "Start Me Up", then thye fast "Oh No Not You Again", with a great Chuck Berry inspired riff by Keith, and ended with "Brown Sugar". No saxophone. No keyboards. Just the four of them - Mick, Keith, Ronnie and Charlie, plus Darryl Jones on bass.
More coming soon...

THE ROLLING STONES ONSTAGE WORLD TOUR to Launch August 21st at Boston's Fenway Park
Stones Redefine the Concert Experience Giving Fans the Chance to Be ONSTAGE
NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/10/2005 -- The Rolling Stones announced today the kick off of the Rolling Stones World Tour at Boston's legendary Fenway Park on August 21st. With 35 dates already confirmed in the U.S. and Canada, the band will then tour Mexico, South America, the Far East and finally Europe in the summer of 2006.

Fans, along with hundreds of members of the U.S. and international media gathered at Lincoln Center, were treated to the ultimate surprise performance by the Rolling Stones. As the famous opening notes of "Start Me Up" blared across the plaza, a giant banner with eye-popping signature tongue logos dropped revealing the band performing on the balcony-turned-stage of the 100-year-old conservatory, Juilliard. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood played three songs for an ecstatic crowd, including "Oh No Not You Again," a new track off their upcoming CD along with their classic hit "Brown Sugar." This marks the first time the Rolling Stones performed at a press event since 1975 when they sang "Brown Sugar" on top of a flatbed truck as they rode down 5th Avenue.

The Rolling Stones Onstage will once again showcase their diversity as musicians and performers by playing three dramatically different venues from the grand scale excitement of a stadium, to the thrill of an arena to the intimate setting of a theatre and club with special set lists. This year's tour takes the concert experience to the next level by bringing together the advantages of an up-close club experience with their electric stadium show. The band will fulfill the ultimate dream of music lovers across the globe, offering the unimaginable -- the opportunity to be onstage with the Rolling Stones. Several hundred seats are built directly into the stadium set, offering fans the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share the excitement and adrenaline rush of being onstage as the Rolling Stones perform to an audience of 50,000 plus.

"The band is redefining the concert experience -- there is nothing even comparable to the thrill of being onstage with the Rolling Stones and seeing a stadium show from the band's perspective," said Michael Cohl, tour promoter. "For fans this will be the greatest tour yet."

Rolling Stones Onstage will combine the spectacular production and charismatic performances that fans have come to expect. The band will be working closely with the design team responsible for the sensational sets, dramatic effects and state-of-the art technology on previous tours from "Steel Wheels" to "Licks."

The Rolling Stones hold the record for the top 2 most attended North American tours of all time.

Fans are able to enjoy special access to tickets, exclusive merchandise and can also follow the tour online at www.rollingstones.com. For the first time ever, concert goers will be able to see the exact seat locations and choose the price level of tickets before purchasing a platinum membership to the fan club. Every ticket sold for the tour will include a free Virtual Ticket membership in the Rolling Stones fan club. Updated daily, users will be given an exclusive insider's look at every aspect of the tour. From rehearsals and preparations to on-going coverage via audio and videos streams, downloads, set lists and news and much more.

The U.S. leg of the Rolling Stones Onstage World Tour is presented by Ameriquest. "With music that appeals to a wide spectrum of the American public, the Rolling Stones offer Ameriquest a broad platform to strategically communicate our brand, our services and our positioning as, 'Proud Sponsor of the American Dream'," said Brian Woods, Chief Marketing Officer, Ameriquest Mortgage Company. "In today's saturated marketplace, the Rolling Stones break through the clutter to reach fans in a way that few iconic brands can. Being the presenting sponsor of this tour allows Ameriquest the opportunity to reach those fans by fulfilling their Dream to see the Stones on stage live."

American Express has a long history of providing special access and meaningful experiences to Cardmembers. As part of this ongoing commitment, American Express has partnered with the Rolling Stones to secure a special opportunity for Cardmembers to purchase their tickets (in select markets and venues) to what promises to be an incredible tour prior to the general public on-sale. All tickets available during the American Express on-sale can be purchased via Ticketmaster as follows: in Boston, from 3:00 p.m. ET on May 10 through 9:00 p.m. ET on May 13; in Chicago, from 9:00 a.m. CT on May 11 through 5 p.m. CT on May 20; in New York from 9 a.m. ET on May 11 through 5 p.m. ET on May 22; and in Anaheim and San Francisco from 9 a.m. PST on May 11 through 5 p.m. PST on May 21.

Tickets will go on sale May 14th for Boston, Washington DC, Atlanta, Miami, Charlotte, and Calgary, with additional markets and dates to follow.

In keeping with the band's philosophy of making their shows accessible to all fans, tickets for the stadiums, arenas and theatres/clubs will be available in a broad range of price categories. There will be a limited number of Gold Circle seats while the remaining 95% of the house will average $99 for stadium shows, $110 for arenas and all tickets for theatre/club shows will be $50. Buys will be limited to 6-12 tickets per person for stadium and arena shows depending on the venue. There is a 2 ticket limit for theatre/club shows. Tickets can be purchased through all usual ticket outlets.

Continuing their historic creative partnership, Mick and Keith began writing together last autumn and have since recorded with Charlie and Ronnie. Their highly anticipated full length studio CD with all new material will be released by Virgin Records in conjunction with the tour.

Rolling Stones World Tour 2005/2006 will be presented by Concert Productions International and The Next Adventure and produced by WPC Piecemeal Inc.

At a news conference afterward, drummer Charlie Watts was asked about his fight against throat cancer. "I'm fine," said Watts, who underwent six weeks of radiation therapy last year.

Watts said this was the last Stones' tour, but his bandmates were quick to contradict that claim.

"We don't plan that this is the last tour, and we certainly don't announce it," said Jagger, calling that "a trap" aimed at getting money from fans. "We take each tour as it comes."

Richards, 61, said money was not the point of this return to the road. "You can have the money," he told a journalist asking about the potential windfall from the tour

Stones Regroup For New Tour, Album Stones Regroup For New Tour, Album

As expected, the Rolling Stones today (May 10) announced another mega world tour during a media event at New York's Juilliard School of Music. The Rolling Stones On Stage outing begins Aug. 21 at Fenway Park in Boston, and tickets to many dates go on sale this weekend. As on the 2002-2003 Licks tour, the band will play clubs, theaters, arenas and stadiums, with each sized venue boasting unique production elements and set lists.

Longtime Stones tour promoter Michael Cohl tells Billboard.com the production for the stadium shows will be the biggest and "most interesting" the Stones have ever attempted, including a feature that will allow 400 fans to view the show from the stage. "You'll get a great view of our bums, so we're going to have to work on them a bit," Mick Jagger said with a laugh.

The Stones performed their classics "Start Me Up" and "Brown Sugar" at the event, and also premiered a new song, "Oh No Not You Again," slated to appear on its next, as-yet-untitled studio album. That set is due this summer via Virgin.

Tickets will average $100 in stadiums and $110 in arenas, not counting the gold circle seats, which Cohl defines as the "five or 10% where we try to get the high-priced ticket people to pay for the tour."

"We haven't really done the set list for the tour," Jagger said. "I dare say we'll work up some songs that we've never done before. Perhaps we'll dig into the catalog and find some songs we haven't done for awhile." Added guitarist Keith Richards, "Sometimes they choose themselves."

Cohl has been plotting the tour for about a year, and the Stones may stay out that long. "We're announcing we'll play the world, but right now the only thing that's set is somewhere around 40 shows in North America," Cohl says.

The strategy follows a now-familiar Cohl/Stones modus operandi: announce in May, begin in the fall, play until the beginning of December, take a break, "and then off we go to South America, the Far East and then Europe next summer," Cohl says. "That's the plan."

With the new album on the way, this will be the first time since the Bridges to Babylon tour in 1997-98 that the Stones have toured in support of new material. "We tried to make this album a very direct album," Jagger offered. "It's a simple album with a lot of different ideas as far as lyrics are concerned. We tried to make it very wide-ranging and very hard-hitting, though it's got its sensitive moments." Richards added, "It kicks some ass."

As on Licks, core Stones Jagger, Richards, Charlie Watts and Ron Wood will be augmented by all-star sidemen Chuck Leavell (keyboards), Darryl Jones (bass) and Bobby Keys (horns), as well the same backup singers and horn section.

Thanks to Licks, the Stones were the top grossing touring act of 2003, ringing up just under $300 million from 116 shows. The numbers were second only to the band's mammoth 1994-95 Voodoo Lounge outing, which took in $320 million.

With the Stones' members now well into their 60s, could this be the final world tour blowout? "We don't really plan tours and we certainly don't announce the tour as the last tour," Jagger said. "That's a trap to try and get people to buy your tickets. We take each tour as it comes."

Here are the Rolling Stones' North American tour dates:

Aug. 21: Boston (Fenway Park)
Aug. 26: Hartford, Conn. (Rentschler Stadium)
Aug. 28: Ottawa, Ont. (Frank Clair Stadium)
Aug. 31: Detroit (Comerica Park)
Sept. 3: Moncton, N.B. (Magnetic Hill)

Sept. 8: Milwaukee (Bradley Center)
Sept. 10: Chicago (Soldier Field)
Sept. 15: East Rutherford, N.J. (Giants Stadium)
Sept. 24: Columbus, Ohio (Nationwide Arena)
Sept. 26: Toronto (Rogers Centre)
Sept. 28: Pittsburgh (PNC Park)
Oct. 1: Hershey, Pa. (Hershey Stadium)
Oct. 3: Washington, D.C. (MCI Center)
Oct. 6: Charlottesville, Va. (Scott Stadium)
Oct. 10: Philadelphia (Wachovia Center)
Oct. 15: Atlanta (Philips Arena)

Rolling Stones back on the road Rolling Stones back on the road

The Rolling Stones are to embark on a mammoth world tour, kicking off with 35 dates in the US and Canada in August.

The band announced the gigs with a mini concert at New York's famous Juilliard music school.

The Rolling Stones have been busy working on a new album, which lead singer Sir Mick Jagger says is "about 85% done".

The tour will also take in South America, the Far East and finally Europe before summer 2006.

The first concert will be at the Fenway Park baseball stadium in Boston on 21 August, with tickets going on sale on general sale on 14 May for the first set of dates.

The Rolling Stones Forty Licks world tour in 2003 grossed more than $300m (£159m) as they performed to more than 3.4 million people.

Fan trap

Sir Mick squashed rumours - actually started by drummer Charlie Watts - that this tour would be a farewell one.

"We don't plan that this is the last tour, and we certainly don't announce it," said Sir Mick Jagger.

"I think that's a trap to try and get people to buy your tickets and say, 'Well, I'll never see them again'.

"We take each tour as it comes," he added.

Talking about the new album, the first featuring new material since the 1997 Bridges to Babylon, Sir Mick said "it kicks some ass".

"We tried to make it very wide-ranging and we tried to make it very hard-hitting, but it's got its sensitive moments," he said.

Keith Richards said the tour would probably be a mixture old songs, new songs, blues and covers of other artists music.

"Sometimes they choose themselves," Richards said.

Tue May 10, 6:20 PM ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) - It's only rock 'n' roll but they still like it.

The Rolling Stones, well into their fifth decade of playing rock 'n' roll, on Tuesday announced a global tour that will stretch into next year and laughed off suggestions that it would be a farewell tour.

"We never say this is going to be our last tour. We never think about it. We take each tour as it comes," singer Mick Jagger, 61, told a news conference at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

"I think that's a trap to try and get people to buy your tickets and say, 'Well, I'll never see them again."

Reminding the cheering crowd that not only are they far from elderly but one of the greatest bands in rock 'n' roll, the Stones kicked off the event with live performances of "Start Me Up" and "Brown Sugar" and a new song Jagger called "Oh No, Not You Again."

The wiry Jagger wriggled and strutted, while Keith Richards, also 61, grinned mischievously over his guitar licks in front of Lincoln Center's Juilliard School.

It was a relatively low-key launch for a band that once landed in a blimp in a city park to kick off a world tour in 2002.

"This is one of the earliest concerts we've been to in a while, actually,," Jagger said of the mid-day event. "We're calling it the cornflakes concert."

The Stones, who burst onto the rock scene in the early '60s in England, are putting together a new album, still untitled, that is "85 percent" finished, Jagger said.

"We tried to make it very wide-ranging and we tried to make it very hard-hitting, but it's got its sensitive moments," he said.

"It kicks some ass," Richards added.

The first tickets go on sale to the public beginning Saturday for the tour which opens August 21 at Fenway Park in Boston and continues in North America through early 2006, said tour director Michael Cohl.

The tour travels to Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Japan and "hopefully" China before heading to Europe in summer 2006, he said.

"There's a lot of other fantastic bands and a lot of old rubbish out there, and we hope it's going to be a wonderful summer of rock 'n' roll and we're going to be right in there," Jagger said.

"May God have mercy on your soul," added Richards.

Prices will average about $100 per ticket, and the shows will take place in stadiums, arenas and theaters, Cohl said.

Asked how much they might make on the tour, while Jagger paused, Richards jubilantly shouted out: "Millions!"

The band, whose shows can sell out in minutes, last toured in 2002-03. The Stones hold the record for the top two most attended North American tours, promoters said.

Jagger said the Stones are likely to choose old songs, new songs, blues and covers of other artists' work.

"Sometimes they choose themselves," Richards said.

The band has a history of staging elaborate stage sets and Jagger said the coming stadium tour will have some 400 people on stage behind the band.

"You'll get a great view of our bums, so we'll have to work on them a bit," he said.

Rolling Stones Announce New Album, Tour BY LARRY McSHANE, Associated Press Writer
Wed May 11

NEW YORK - Roll over Beethoven, and tell Tchaikovsky the news: The Rolling Stones announced a new album and world tour Tuesday with a three-song mini-concert at one of Manhattan's bastions of classical music, the Juilliard School.

The familiar crunching riff of "Start Me Up" was greeted with a roar from hundreds of fans filling Lincoln Center from its plaza to its rooftops, as sixtysomething lead singer Mick Jagger launched into the lyrics.

"Thank you very much guys," Jagger told the cheering crowd at the century-old conservatory on a sunny spring afternoon. "This is one of the earliest concerts we've played."

The brief show promoted the tour that begins Aug. 21 at Fenway Park, where the legendary rock dinosaurs will play in front of the Green Monster. Dates in North America will continue through December.

The as-yet-untitled new album is "about 85 percent done," Jagger said. It would be the first collection of all-new material from the Stones since 1997's "Bridges to Babylon."

Prices will average $100-105 per ticket, with seats for the first shows — in Boston, Washington, Atlanta, Miami, Charlotte, N.C., and Calgary, Alberta — going on sale Saturday. Shows will continue next year in South America, Asia and Europe.

The North American dates will alternate between stadiums, arenas and smaller venues. The last Stones tour, in 2002-03, generated $88 million in ticket sales in North America during its first year.

Along with "Start Me Up," the Stones debuted a new song — "Oh No Not You Again" — before tearing into "Brown Sugar." A flub in the new material prompted Jagger to turn a bit professorial.

"I think the examiners at Juilliard would have us come back and retake that one," Jagger said as guitarist Keith Richards shrugged. It was the Stones' first live performance at a press event since they played while riding a flatbed truck through Manhattan — a stunt recreated last year by U2.

Scores of Juilliard students in Rolling Stones T-shirts danced and cheered enthusiastically during the set, as Jagger pranced on stage. Richards, a disciple of "Roll Over Beethoven" songwriter Chuck Berry, traded leads with fellow guitarist Ronnie Wood.

"You can have the money," he told a journalist asking about the potential windfall from the tour.

Stones Get Fall Tour Rolling By Charlie Amter Stones Get Fall Tour Rolling By Charlie Amter
Tue May 10
Time is apparently still on the Rolling Stones' side.

The ageless wonders are once again ready to mount a massive world tour--that may or may not be their last, depending on which Stone you listened to Tuesday at a concert/press conference in Manhattan.

The tour, to support an in-the-works, as-yet-untitled new studio album, will commence Aug. 21 in Boston and hit most major U.S. and Canadian cities in the fall, tour director Michael Cohl told reporters.

After the U.S. dates, which wrap Dec. 1 in Houston, the tour then travels in 2006 to Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Europe and perhaps China--a locale the band has been trying to play for years.

The last time the Stones undertook a similar large-scale jaunt was in 2002 for their Licks tour, which generated more than $88 million in ticket sales, per industry trade Pollstar.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers enlisted a blimp in Manhattan three years ago to generate buzz for that tour--this time around they lost the hot air and went back to basics.

Before announcing the tour, the band played a free outdoor mini-concert at Lincoln Center, within earshot of the Juilliard School, which was holding its commencement ceremonies.

Sporting a blue blazer and dark shades, Stones frontman Mick Jagger got the crowd going with "Start Me Up."

"This is one of the earliest concerts we've been to in a while, actually," the 61-year-old joked of the three-song midday set. "We're calling it the cornflakes concert."

The band also tore through "Brown Sugar" and the new tune "Oh No, Not You Again," which will be featured on the new disc. Jagger said the album, set for release on Virgin Records this summer, is "85 percent done."

The touring lineup will feature the core band: Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood and Charlie Watts. Watts, who underwent radiation therapy to battle throat cancer last year, said he was "fine" and looking forward to what would be the Stones' final tour.

Before the press corps could start rumbling, however, his bandmates quickly shot down the notion that the Stones would stop rolling after the upcoming trek.

Tickets for the first set of shows, including Boston, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Miami, go on sale Saturday.

Stones Start Up in N.Y.

Rockers play surprise set to announce massive world tour

The Rolling Stones played a surprise set outside New York City's Julliard School of the performing arts just after one o'clock on Tuesday to announce their upcoming world tour and studio album.

On a perfect spring afternoon, a crowd of nearly 2,000 people -- from media members and celebrities (designer Tommy Hilfiger, model Linda Evangelista, TV host Matt Lauer) seated in front of the impromptu stage, to the hordes of fans in the plaza below and on a nearby rooftop -- managed to catch the three-song set. A group of very enthusiastic Julliard students wearing matching Rolling Stones T-shirts stood to stage left, just below a giant banner bearing the band's signature tongue logo (stitched like a baseball, to evoke the stadiums their tour will visit).

Once the Stones -- singer Mick Jagger, guitarists Keith Richards and Ron Wood, drummer Charlie Watts and bassist Darryl Jones -- took the stage, they launched into "Start Me Up," with Jagger grinning broadly and playing to the kids in the crowd.

"This is one of the earliest concerts in a while -- that we've been to, anyway," quipped Jagger, before launching into the new song, "Oh No Not You Again." The straight-up rocker featured a guitar solo from Keith Richards and the lyric, "Oh no, not you again/You're fucking up my life!" At its close, Jagger turned to the music students and said, to big cheers, "There was one bum note . . . I think the examiners at Julliard would make us take that one again."

For the final song, the Stones played "Brown Sugar," with the crowd pitching in on the chorus' "Yeah, yeah, yeah/Woo!" With surprisingly pumped-up biceps, Jagger tossed off his jacket and managed -- in spite of the jaded press presence -- to work the crowd, and Richards tossed his guitar pick into the audience.

After the set, Jagger, Richards, Wood and Watts returned to field questions about their massive Rolling Stones On Stage tour. This time around, the veteran rockers will hit more than thirty-five cities in the U.S. alone, kicking off at Boston's Fenway Park on August 21st, before moving on to Latin America, Japan, possibly China and Europe by the summer of 2006.

While the set list for the shows hasn't been decided -- "Sometimes [the songs] choose themselves!" said Richards -- Jagger revealed that the band "might dig into the catalog" for songs they haven't played in years, as well as work up some "cover versions and some blues." And for the first time ever, the stadium set will feature a second stage on which approximately 400 audience members will be seated, in the middle of the show. Those lucky fans, said Jagger, "will get a great view of our bums."

Tickets for the first round of U.S. dates will go on sale on Saturday (ticket prices will start at around $100, up approximately ten percent from the band's last outing). The Stones hold the record for the two most well-attended North American tours of all time.

Between tour rehearsals in Toronto, the Stones will finish off their next, as-yet-untitled album -- their first studio effort since 1997's Bridges to Babylon. "We tried to make this album a direct album, very simple as far as lyrics and ideas are concerned," Jagger said. "It's eighty-five percent done."

While no release date has been set for the record, the band will be debuting the new material on tour.
