Pink Floyd flop in Spain

Pink Floyd rocker Dave Gilmour was stunned locals on the Spanish island of Formentera had no idea who he was - despite the band's lauded performance at the London Live 8 concert earlier this month.

Gilmour holidayed on the small island with his journalist wife, but the Spaniards were unimpressed when the 60-year-old joined them for a local jamming session.

A local musician says: "He said who he was and at first no one believed him.

"Finally we let him play, but the guitar didn't have any frets, so he didn't play very well."

Gilmour adds: "I couldn't believe they hadn't heard of us. It was very funny. But they weren't too keen on my playing."

A DVD titled Pink Floyd -– London 1966-67, due out Oct. 4, will feature rare footage of the band's original lineup in the studio and performing at a concert. The disc also will include interviews with Mick Jagger, actor Michael Caine and other celebrities. In addition, a bonus CD featuring live versions of the lengthy instrumentals "Interstellar Overdrive" and "Nick's Boogie" will be packaged with the DVD.

New version of Pink Floyd's The Wall

Several veteran rock artists have teamed to record a track-by-track tribute to Roger Waters / Pink Floyd's "The Wall." Due Sept. 27 via the Cleopatra Records' Purple Pyramid imprint, "Back Against the Wall" boasts the participation of Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, the Doors' Robby Krieger and Yes' Rick Wakeman, Chris Squire and Steve Howe. Another former Yes alum, Billy Sherwood, produced the tribute, which also features King Crimson's Adrian Belew and Tony Levin, ELP's Keith Emerson, Styx's Tommy Shaw and Toto's Steve Lukather, as well as actor Malcolm McDowell, who provides spoken dialogue. "All the artists involved poured their hearts and soul into this body of work and it shows," Sherwood says. "It is with the utmost respect to Pink Floyd that we took the challenge."

YES, STYX, DOORS & JETHRO TULL MEMBERS SET FOR TRIBUTE TO PINK FLOYD'S 'THE WALL'

Members of Yes, the Doors, Jethro Tull, Styx, and Toto are all featured on an all-star tribute to the Pink Floyd album The Wall. It's called Back Against The Wall, and it's the brainchild of former Yes member Billy Sherwood, who got help from friends including Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman, Steve Howe, and Alan White from Yes, Robby Krieger from the Doors, Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull, Tommy Shaw from Styx, and Steve Lukather and Steve & Mike Porcaro from Toto. Other players who lent their time to the album include King Crimson veterans John Wetton, Adrian Belew and Tony Levin, Deep Purple's Steve Morse, Ronnie Montrose, Fee Waybill from the Tubes, and Dweezil Zappa. Back Against The Wall comes out September 27th.

Sherwood said, "All the artists involved poured their hearts and soul into this body of work, and it shows. It is with the utmost respect to Pink Floyd that we took the challenge. I feel that we have honored the emotion of the original while bringing out the individual personalities of all the guest artists. This was truly a labor of love for everyone involved."

Besides their relationship from Yes, Sherwood and Chris Squire also have a side project called Conspiracy.
