ERIC CLAPTON - CLAPTON'S BOOZY SEX SECRETS

Rocker ERIC CLAPTON's excessive drink and drug use meant he did not have sex sober until he was into his 30s. The Layla star, 62, who is now teetotal, admits he can barely remember a thing about certain periods of his youth - least of all his sexual encounters. He says, "I came from treatment the first time and couldn't perform with my wife. It never occurred to me I had never had sex without being stoned. I'd get drunk first then be kind of guided through it." In a revealing interview to be aired on Britain's The South Bank Show next month (2Dec07), Clapton admits he only kicked the booze after experiencing "dark dark suicidal thoughts" on a 1987 tour of Australia.

ROBBIE Williams's Angels has lost its crown as Europe's top wedding song.

Seventies classic Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton came first in a poll for download website Music Choice.

Robbie's biggest-selling single was knocked into third place by The Police's Every Breath You Take.

UB40 made it on to the list with their cover of I Can't Help Falling In Love With You.

Sexual Healing by soul legend Marvin Gaye was named sexiest bedroom anthem in the survey, just ahead of Madonna's Justify Your Love and Eurythmics' The Miracle Of Love.

The poll put Monty Python's comedy song Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life - featured in the crucifixion scene in The Life Of Brian - as the best funeral song.

It shared top spot with Clapton's Tears In Heaven, which he wrote following the death of his son. The defiant My Way by Frank Sinatra was next.

Clapton jams with Brooker’s No Stiletto Shoes

In something that has become an almost annual tradition, Eric Clapton sat in with Gary Brooker's band, No Stiletto Shoes, on Friday 21 December at the Ex-Servicemen's Club in Chiddingfold. Eric joined in after a few numbers and played just over an hour. The band also included Andy Fairweather Low, Dave Bronze and Frank Mead. As usual, the set list was quite eclectic.

Eric played on the following songs:

Santa Claus Is Back In Town
Shotgun
Get Up (Stand Up For Your Rights)
Route 66
Gin House
Hand Jive (featuring E.C. on vocals)
Old Black Joe
High School Hop
Bright Lights, Big City
Blueberry Hill
Lucille
You Can't Judge A Book
Good Night Irene

This also turned out to be the last "Christmas Gig" at the Ex-Servicemen's Club in Chiddingfold as the club will close in Spring 2008. It was announced last week in the "Surrey Advertiser" that the club will be torn down to make way for new homes and a smaller club. Because of the smaller scale of the new club and it's proximity to housing, it will be unable to host live bands.

Former BEATLES drummer RINGO STARR joined forces with rock veterans ERIC CLAPTON and PETE TOWNSHEND for a legendary jamming session on New Year's Eve. The rock veterans performed to a small VIP audience at a secret charity gig in Surrey, England, on Monday night (31Dec07), with tickets going for as little as $100 (GBP50). A source tells British newspaper The Independent, "The band was called Totally Abandoned for the night and obviously boasted a fairly impressive line-up. "It was very much a word-of-mouth thing and tickets were under GBP50. They sung mainly old classics, they were great."

"Вести с полей"

The Best New Year's Eve in England with Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend, Ringo
Starr and Joe Walsh

As a professional rock musician for the last thirty years, I have had many
opportunities to experience the New Year's Eve in many countries around the
world. This particular New Year, however, I was in England and spent probably
the best time ever. No, it wasn't with the thousands crowded along the River
Thames to watch the firework display and queue up for hours to see London from
the London Eye and it wasn't at some 'posh do' that would set me back a
month's wages. It took place in a small leisure centre just outside a small
Surrey village, cost me less than £50 and not a drop of alcohol was available to
drink.
'The best?' I hear you say but this sounds really boring... Oh no, my
friend, this is the third time I have attended this event and each time is a
magical experience and I can't imagine that it could get better but each year it
does, and this year was the New Year of all New Years! So what was it that has
caused me so much excitement? Maybe you are thinking I have experienced some
kind of religious revelation, perhaps I saw a star hovering over this small
venue in this small obscure English village?

Well, in one way you would be right! But not one star - there were many. And
these stars were not celestial bodies but real human ones! One was called
Eric, another Gary, there was Pete and Joe, Andy and Richard. Let me share my
story with you.
Every year I am lucky enough to get hold of tickets to this private function
that is organised by some of these above named to raise money for a
particular charity close to their heart. Because the venue is small, the tickets are
limited to as many people you can comfortably get into a large sports hall
without contravening Health and Safety Regulations. The hall is laid out with
decorated tables around the edge of a large dance floor and towards one end ,
a large stage is constructed at one end which professional sound and stage
technicians have set up to give an impressive Wembley Arena output with the
intimacy of a village hall.

On this stage, every year a special band plays live for more than three
hours and it is this band that makes the celebration so magical. As a band, it is
completely unknown and you will never find reference to it wherever you
search in the musical media. Each year the band takes a different name and this
year it was called the 'Totally Abandoned' Band. Its leader, for one night
only, is probably one of the best rock and blues guitarist England has had and
is known worldwide. Some songs that you will all know from this guy are Layla,
I Shot the Sheriff, Lay Down Sally....now perhaps you can see why I am so
excited....yes, it's Eric Clapton!

Now Eric Clapton by himself would be pretty mind-blowing. But put him
together with Gary Brooker from Procol Harum, Andy Fairweather Low originally from
the 1960s British band Amen Corner and still going strong touring with some
of the best musicians of the 60s and 70s, and to this mix Joe Walsh from the
US band, The Eagles, stir in Pete Townshend from the Who and sprinkle
liberally with Ringo Starr from The Beatles and ........be blown away!!!! A jamming
session pare excellence!

As a professional musician myself, having spent 30 years of my adult life
earning my living in this precarious profession, to see 'The Big Boys' like
this and to be able to get so close to them was beyond any dream I could have
had. Top this though! My wife's friend and her family are the warm up band and
this friend's husband kindly took me backstage where I could have a clear and
private view of Ringo drumming whilst singing 'Boys'.

Later I sidled in there again and this time was met by an extremely friendly
Pete Townshend who shook my hand and wished me a Happy New Year.
So that was it....my New Year celebration....breathing the same oxygen as my
heroes. A big thanks to everyone who made this event something I will take
to my grave. Not just to the Boys but to all the staff who made the night such
a resounding success. Can't wait for New Year 2009!!
Happy New Year everyone.

And, in Ringo's words: 'Peace, Man'

Here are some of my favourite songs from those Great Guys.

Ringo Star(Beatles) with a little help from friends...(too many on the stage)

Ringo, Eric, Pete, Joe and Andy Play For AA

The New Year's Eve show in Surrey, England featuring the supergroup of Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend and Joe Walsh was a show put on by Eric Clapton for his Alcoholics Anonymous group.

The audience was treated to a virtual walk through the origins of rock and roll by the band calling themselves Totally Abandoned.

With thanks to reader's responses to yesterday's request for information on the show, Undercover has been told about one of the greatest one-off shows of all-time.

The set-list comprised a few original songs from members of the band. Clapton's 'Cocaine' was there, so was Walsh's 'Rocky Mountain Way', Brooker's 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' and Starr's 'Boys'.

Old Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis along with a stack of Stax classics also made the list.

Eric Clapton put the show together for his Alcoholic Anonymous group. Clapton puts on this show annually and has been doing so for the last 20 years.

As they don't mention last names in AA, the band, along with Starr, Clapton, Walsh and Townshend is listed as:

Andy F-L - guitar(s)
Dave B - bass guitar
Henry S - drums
Chris S - keyboard
Sharon W and Michelle J - background vocals
Gary B – organ

Gary B is Gary Brooker from Procul Harum, Andy F-L is Andy Fairweather Low, once of Amen Corner and currently the guitarist for Roger Waters. We assume Henry S is Henry Spinetti, who has played with Clapton, Paul McCartney, Gerry Rafferty, Bob Dylan, Procul Harum and George Harrison. Chris S is most likely super-session guitarist Chris Spedding. Michelle John and Sharon White were the backing singers.

So here are the songs the supergroup played:

Knock on Wood
Reconsider Baby
Judge A Book
Sea Cruise
Gin House
Rockin Robin
Rocky Mountain Way
Boys
Honey Don't
Old Black Joe
Auld Lang Syne
In The Midnight Hour
Hoochie Coochie Man
Lucille
Blueberry Hill
We Shall Not Be Moved
Goodnight Irene
Three Steps to Heaven
Cocaine
Shake Rattle n Roll
White Shade of Pale
Little Queenie

Гораздо более likely, что Chris S -- это Chris Stainton. "Clapton, who lives near Stainton and plays cricket with him, rates Stainton as one of the greatest keyboard players alive" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Stainton).
