Reelin' In The Years Productions and Hip-O Records announced the May 23, 2006 release of "Muddy Waters Classic Concerts" on DVD. Featuring three concerts (including the legendary 1960 Newport Jazz Festival) and spanning seventeen years, the DVD includes 23 songs for almost two hours of performances by Muddy Waters, the undisputed king of the blues. In 2003, Reelin' In The Years Productions began releasing the GRAMMY-nominated "The American Folk Blues Festival 1962 - 1969" DVD series, widely considered the greatest blues DVDs of all time. "Muddy Waters Classic Concerts" continues in that fine tradition, featuring truly amazing performances with great sound and video.
"Muddy Waters Classic Concerts" opens with Muddy's performance at the legendary 1960 Newport Jazz Festival, the concert that spawned Muddy Waters At Newport, one of the greatest live albums of all time. Now available for the first time featuring pristine stereo sound synched up from that classic album, the five songs in the nearly half-hour set are the finest example of Muddy Waters' greatness ever to be captured on film and include the definitive versions of "Got My Mojo Working, " "Rollin' Stone" and "Mean Mistreater".
The second classic concert is a rare, previously unseen, complete set from the 1968 Copenhagen Jazz Festival featuring Muddy's amazing late-sixties band including blues great Otis Spann on piano. This show, buried in the Danish vaults for 37 years, is one of the few complete Muddy Waters concerts to be captured on film from the 1960s. The entire band plays with both fire and finesse on blistering versions of "(I'm Your) Hoochie Coochie Man, " "Long Distance call" and "Tiger In Your Tank" plus five more songs.
The third concert on the DVD is a complete set from the 1977 Molde Jazz Festival in Norway. Filmed 35 years after his first recordings, Muddy and his top-notch band tear through such classics as "Baby Please Don't Go, " "Can't Get No Grindin', " "Prison-Bound Blues" and four more songs.
In addition to the three concerts, the DVD also includes a host of bonus features. From the Victoria Theatre in London is a performance of "The Blues Had A Baby And They Named It Rock & Roll" shot in 1977. Also included are two filmed interviews from "Old Grey Whistle Test" (1972) and the Molde Jazz Festival (1977). The 16-page booklet includes a foreword by Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones, and an insightful 5, 000-word essay by Bob Margolin, Muddy's lead-guitarist from 1973 to 1980. To commemorate this important release, Universal Music Group International will be releasing a special limited edition of the DVD including a reproduction of an original Muddy Waters concert poster from the 1950s.
Reelin' In The Years Productions is the largest music footage library in the world, housing over 10, 000 hours of performances from all genres of music covering the last 50 years. Most of the footage in their library has never been seen or heard by the world at large. Reelin' In The Years Productions' "The American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1969" three volume DVD series has received critical acclaim, commercial success and numerous industry awards. "Volume One" was nominated for a GRAMMY award in the category of "Best Long Form Music Video" and "Volume One" and "Two" received The Blues Foundation's prestigious 2004 Keeping The Blues Alive (KBA) Award as well as Honorable Mention in Mojo Magazine's Honors List for best DVD of 2003. Sanctuary Records Releases Keith Emerson's New Albums
The legendary Keith Emerson (T-Bones, The Nice, Emerson, Lake & Palmer), one of the greatest keyboardist in rock history, exploded into superstardom in the 1970s with partners Greg Lake and Carl Palmer in the boundary-smashing progressive-rock trio. A great present for all his fans all over the world will be three special solo titles -- 'Off The Shelf, ' 'At The Movies' and 'Honky' -- scheduled for release through Sanctuary Records in Spring 2006.
'Off The Shelf' will be released on April 25, 2006. The songs, referred to by Emerson as an "audio montage of musical snapshots, " are rare and previously unreleased solo recordings the keyboardist stockpiled from the mid-1980s to almost the present day. It features original compositions and unique covers in an unpredictable mix of classical, jazz and Brazilian styles. Emerson's adds his distinctive stamp to songs by Elvis Presley, Frank Zappa, Thelonius Monk, Ian Dury and Gary Burton.
Special guests include Palmer, guitarist Pat Travers and The Band vocalist/drummer Levon Helm, who is the featured singer on "Straight Between The Eyes" from the film 'Best Revenge.' Alternate versions of Emerson classics "Pictures At An Exhibition, " "America" and "Abaddon's Bolero" are additional highlights.
The 15 tracks on 'Off The Shelf, ' which are all making their CD debut, include: "Abaddon's Bolero, " "Pictures At An Exhibition, " "And Then January, " "Rio, " "Straight Between The Eyes, " "Don't Be Cruel, " "Au Privave, " "Walter L, " "Rhythm-A-Ning, " "Asian Pear, " "Motor Bikin', " "America, " "Lumpy Gravy, " "Up The Elephant And Around The Castle" and "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll."
'At The Movies' hits stores on May 23, 2006. It is a three-CD collection of excerpts and pieces from seven films scored by Emerson between 1981 and 2004. Most of this music is very rare and highly sought after by Emerson collectors, and much of it is making its official CD debut in the United States. Disc 1 includes the complete soundtrack to the 1981 Sylvester Stallone suspense thriller "Nighthawks, " which features a rare vocal performance from Emerson on a cover of the Spencer Davis Group classic "I'm A Man." Music from 1986's 'Best Revenge' ends the first disc, including Boston vocalist Brad Delp guesting on "Playing For Keeps." Disc 2 covers three Italian movie scores starting with the 1980 horror film 'Inferno' directed by Dario Argento. Four tracks from director Michele Soavi's 1988 film 'La Chiesa' (or 'The Church') follows. The disc closes with nine tracks from 1986's 'Murderock.' Disc 3 includes the scores for two Japanese films -- 1985's animated feature 'Harmageddon' and 2004's 'Godzilla: Final Wars, ' a remake of the classic original monster movie.
The 67 tracks on 'At The Movies' include:
Disc 1: U.S. Movies 'NIGHTHAWKS' - "Main Theme, " "Mean Stalkin', " "The Bust, " "Nighthawking, " "The Chase, " "I'm A Man, " "The Chopper, " "Tramway, " "I'm Comin' In, " "Face To Face" and "Flight Of The Hawk." 'BEST REVENGE' - "Orchestral Suite, " "Playing For Keeps, " "The Dreamer (Love Theme), " "Wha'dya Mean, " "Outgoing Tide, " "For Those Who Win" and "The Runner." Disc 2: Italian Movies 'INFERNO' - "Main Title, " "Rose Descends Into The Cellar, " "Taxi Ride (Rome), " "The Library, " "Sarah In The Library Vaults, " "Bookbinder's Delight, " "Rose Leaves The Apartment, " "Rose Gets It, " "Elisa's Story, " "Cat Attic Attack, " "Kazanian's Tarantella, " "Mark's Discovery, " "Mater Tennerbrarum, " "Inferno Finale, " "Cigarettes, Ices Etc." and "Inferno Extras." 'LA CHIESA' - "The Church - Main Theme, " "The Possession, " "Prelude 24" and "La Chiesa Revisited." 'MURDEROCK' - "Main Theme, " "Not So Innocent, " "Prelude To Candice, " "Don't Go In The Shower, " "Coffee Time, " "Candice, " "New York Dash, " "Tonight Is Not Your Night" and "The Spillone." Disc 3: Japanese Movies 'HARMAGEDDON' - "Theme Of Floi, " "Jo And Michiko, " "Sonny's Skate State, " "Zamedy Stomp, " "Challenge Of The Psionic Fighters, " "Children Of The Light" and "Godzilla Vs. Gotengo." 'GODZILLA: FINAL WARS' - "Main Theme, " "EDF Headquarters Fight, " "EDF Museum, " "Infant Island, " "Rodan Attacks NYC, " "Earth Defense Forces Theme, " "Motorcycle Battle, " "Godzilla Awakens, " "Love Theme, " "Monster Zero Theme, " "Cruising The Cirro Stratus, " "Godzilla Theme" and "Godzilla: Final Wars End Theme."
'Honky' will also be released on May 23, 2006. Emerson's debut solo album was recorded in 1980 for the Italian label Bubble. 'Honky' had a limited CD release in 2000 but this reissue is newly remastered and it includes detailed liner notes and photos. This eclectic, highly diverse album found Emerson displaying his sense of humor front and center. Rock, classical, jazz, honky tonk, boogie-woogie and Caribbean/West Indian styles are all here, along with pseudo-broadcasts of snippets of old standards, commentary and easygoing, lighthearted vocals. Emerson's original pieces blend effortlessly with his interpretations of George Malcolm's "Bach Before The Mast, " Billy Taylor's "Big Horn Breakdown" and Meade Lux Lewis' "Yancy Special."
The 11 tracks on 'Honky' include: "Hello Sailor, " "Bach Before The Mast, " "Hello Sailor Finale, " "Salt Cay, " "Green Ice, " "Intro-Juicing, " "Big Horn Breakdown, " "Yancy Special, " "Rum-A-Ting, " "Chickcharnie" and "Jesus Loves Me."

Monk Meets the Beatles Thelonious Monk | Sole Mountain Jazz
For years it was rumored that Thelonious Monk was asked to do an album of Beatles tunes, but now we finally have proof that it was actually made. In the summer of 1971, the pianist was approached by an English businessman to make a record of Beatles tunes as a surprise birthday gift for his wife. Monk was hesitant to record adaptations of rock music, but was finally persuaded by the considerable fee offered to him, with the stipulation that only a single copy was to be pressed.
Monk played approximately twenty songs at home over a two-week period, then selected twelve he felt he could adapt. During a day off while in Great Britain as a part of the Giants of Jazz tour, he completed the recording in a single session.
Over thirty years after the recording was made, the Monk estate was asked about the possibility of commercially releasing this long-lost album. The master tapes, still in the hands of the session engineer, were found to be in excellent shape. After some lengthy negotiations, it was agreed that a limited edition of 5000 would be sold, though it would be issued by a European label.
Unlike many warmed-over jazz treatments of rock songs recorded during the 1960s, Thelonious Monk obviously took his rehearsals of these unfamiliar songs seriously. Monk’s choice of “Birthday” is an appropriate opener, played as a brisk stride arrangement with a dissonant countermelody. The pianist has a bit of fun with “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” by initially starting off with an angular chorus of Mary Lou Williams’ “In the Land of Oo-Blah-Dee.”
One of the most unlikely choices would seem to be “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” but Monk interprets it as a slow ballad, incorporating some humorous tremolos and revealing its hidden possibilities. “Yesterday” has long since become a jazz standard, though Monk’s version is both bittersweet and hilarious, partly because of his closing glissando cascading down the keyboard. The CD concludes with a whimsical take of “When I’m Sixty-Four,” followed by a single chorus of Monk’s theme song, “Epistrophy.”

>pempe*** >А как тебе Charlie Hunter, Bobby Previte, DJ >Logic "Longitude"? >А что-то не осилил.
Мне подходит. Саунд не привычный, но оба работают хорошо, и DJ Logic к месту. Выделилбы композицию Dead Rеckoning - такой Heavy jazz. Я Bobby Previte впервые 3 года назад живьем услышал (да в компании с Steve Swallow и Wayne Horwitz) - сразу в любимые попал, очень свежую музыку играл. In July 2006 famous turntablist DJ Logic returns with Zen Of Logic (Ropeadope Records ), the long awaited follow-up to his 2002 Ropeadope / Atlantic release, The Anomaly. Produced by long time collaborator Scotty Hard (Wu Tang, Prince Paul), Zen of Logic travels down many paths, all linked by two turntables and one mixer. From Afro-dub (featuring Antibalas), Ghetto Funk (featuring John Medeski), what is jazz? (featuring Charlie Hunter) and back handed hip-hop (featuring MC's SubConcious and Creature), Logic has created a modern day mix-up masterpiece that will please all mad (ipod) shufflers.
The theorem of turntablist as musician has been proven in the capable hands of DJ Logic, who, with jazz as his foundation, barreled through barriers to become a wax innovator, crossing genres and sprinkling his sound across the map.
Not just another deejay from around the way (though he is from the Bronx), Logic has the credentials to back up his reputation as a musician and visionary – after all, this is a man who helped found the Black Rock Coalition, established in 1985 and was the first turntablist to play the famed Blue Note club in New York City.
The mix master has played live with an eclectic mix of artists ranging from Joshua Redman, Mos Def and Ursula Rucker to Graham Haynes, Don Byron, BB King, Robert Randolph, Vernon Reid, amongst many more notables. He's toured with Ben Harper and Jack Johnson, the Dead, Maroon 5 and John Mayer. Now that is versatile.
DJ Logic's first album in four years, Zen of Logic, is a foray into the eclecticism for which he is known, as well as a culmination of newfound experiences and musical meetings of the mind, soul and instrument. He's taken time out from intense touring and collaborating to lay down his own revolution on wax, drawing directly on those days.
Building on his legacy and contribution to the deejay genre, DJ Logic is an artist who at once pays homage to his predecessors, while pushing the envelope, bringing new sounds and a unique style to a modern moment.
Turntablist DJ Logic has made a name largely by playing his turntables outside of the typical musical spheres with which DJ's are most commonly associated. Widely credited for introducing Jazz into the Hip Hop realms, DJ Logic is considered a highly respected session musician and an innovative bandleader. The mix-master has also earned his stripes as a highly sought after producer, adding his Midas touch to countless remixes for labels such as Savoy and Sony and for artists such as Soulive, The Weather Report, Red Norvo and Nina Simone. In 2006 DJ Logic will tour the U.S. in support of his new album as well as fans can expect the to see him participating in many solo and one-off performances including with Charlie Hunter and Christian McBride the month of April 2006 on the Ropeadope records What is Jazz? Tour and with a project he co-founded, The John Popper Project.
Fresh on the plate of the always progressive Ropeadope Records is a full lineup releases in 2006 including: Copperopolis, the new recording by the Charlie Hunter Trio, Live At Tonic by the Christian McBride Band, Coalition of the Willing by Bobby Previte, DJ Logic Zen of Logic and an experimental release by DJ Klock.
