One, two, three o'clock, four o'clock, rock, Five, six, seven o'clock, eight o'clock, rock, Nine, ten, eleven o'clock, twelve o'clock, rock, We're gonna rock around the clock tonight.
Put your glad rags on and join me, hon, We'll have some fun when the clock strikes one, We're gonna rock around the clock tonight, We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight. We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.
When the clock strikes two, three and four, If the band slows down we'll yell for more, We're gonna rock around the clock tonight, We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight. We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.
When the chimes ring five, six and seven, We'll be right in seventh heaven. We're gonna rock around the clock tonight, We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight. We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.
When it's eight, nine, ten, eleven too, I'll be goin' strong and so will you. We're gonna rock around the clock tonight, We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight. We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight.
When the clock strikes twelve, we'll cool off then, Start a rockin' round the clock again. We're gonna rock around the clock tonight, We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight. We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight. http://www.spynets.com/lyrics/lyrics_details.php?ID=771

The July 4, 1966 edition of RPM Magazine (published in Toronto) notes that "Bruce Cockburn and Mr [William] Hawkins are working on a Rock Opera, operating on the premise that to write you need only 'something to say'." Nevertheless, the term rock opera is generally thought of as having originated from an informal gathering of Pete Townshend, guitarist for The Who, and some friends at some point that same year. (Townshend is said to have played a comedy tape to his friends called Gratis Amatis, and one of his friends is said to have made the comment that the odd song was a "rock opera". Kit Lambert, the Who's producer, is then believed to have said "Now there's an idea!")
Whatever the origin of the term, the earliest completed and recorded example of a 'rock opera' appeared later in 1966 - Townshend's "A Quick One While He's Away" on The Who's second album, A Quick One. It was a nine-minute suite of short songs telling the operatic story of the seduction of a young girl guide (Townshend) by an engine driver named Ivor (played by John Entwistle).

Rock's emphasis on rhythm, gritty abrasive instrumental sounds, and often salacious lyrical themes underscored the genre's roots in sexuality and things impulsive and earth.
In the mid 60s, a less dance-oriented, more concert-oriented style of rock & roll emerged, which was usually given the title "rock."

The Who Long Live Rock
Drunken Live Vocal Version From the Old Grey Whistle Test broadcast on January 29-30, 1973 filmed at BBC Shepherd's Bush Television Theatre, Shepherds Bush, West London.
Down at the Astoria the scene was changing, Bingo and rock were pushing out X-rating, We were the first band to vomit in the bar, And find the distance to the stage too far, Meanwhile it's getting late at ten o'clock, Rock is dead they say, Long live rock.
Long live rock, I need it every night, Long live rock, come on and join the line, Long live rock, be it dead or alive.
People walk in sideways pretending that they're leaving, We put on our makeup and work out all the lead-ins, Jack is in the alley selling tickets made in Hong Kong, Promoter's in the pay box wondering where the band's gone, Back in the pub the governor stops the clock, Rock is dead, they say, Long live rock.
Long live rock, I need it every night, Long live rock, come on and join the line, Long live rock, be it dead or alive.
Landslide, rocks are falling, Falling down 'round our very heads, We tried but you were yawning, Look again, rock is dead, rock is dead, rock is dead.
The place is really jumping to the high-watt amps, 'Til a 20-inch cymbal fell and cut the lamps, In the blackout they dance right into the aisle, And as the doors fly open even the promoter smiles, Someone takes his pants off and the rafters knock, Rock is dead, they say, Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock, Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.
Long live rock, I need it every night, Long live rock, come on and join the line, Long live rock, be it dead or alive.
