DEEP PURPLE: IAN PAICE Drum Clinic To Be Released On DVD - June 27, 2005

DEEP PURPLE drummer Ian Paice's drum clinic in Croydon last year is due out shortly on DVD. It features sets by Paice and Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS), filmed on stage before an enthusiastic crowd of fans and drummers. The DVD can be ordered online at Deep-Purple.net.

DEEP PURPLE recently spent five weeks at a Los Angeles studio recording their new album with producer Mike Bradford. The album, which will be the group's first release since their split with the EMI label, is described by keyboardist Don Airey as "a lot heavier" than 2003's "Bananas". "We recorded it in the same studio that use to be used by KORN, and it's got a wonderful sound," Airey said. "It's got a real, immediate drum and organ sound. I was really happy working in there."

27.06: EMI will release a new DEEP PURPLE DVD called "Deep Purple Live In Concert 72/73" on July 25 2005. The disc will contain b/w footage from Copenhagen 1972 (90 min) and color footage from New York 1973 (27 min). Both shows feature the classic MK2 lineup: Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Jon Lord, Ian Paice and of course RG.

DEEP PURPLE have set "Rapture of the Deep" as the title of their new studio album, tentatively due in October.

BLACK SABBATH's IOMMI Gets 'Trashed' On New IAN GILLAN Album - June 30, 2005

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi recently took time out of his schedule to record the guitar parts for a remake of "Trashed" from BLACK SABBATH's "Born Again" album, which featured Ian Gillan (DEEP PURPLE) on vocals. The new version of the track will be included on Gillan's upcoming album "Gillan's Inn" — a celebration of Ian's 40th year on the road featuring remakes of tracks spanning Ian's entire career. This particular remake is said to be "heavier than the original," and also features fellow DEEP PURPLE members Ian Paice (drums) and Roger Glover (bass). Commented Gillan's manager: "It's a very cool pairing of musicians, bringing the rhythm section of PURPLE with Tony." Other musicians slated to appear on the record include Jon Lord, Don Airey, Steve Morse, Joe Satriani, Jeff Healey, Janick Gers, Michael Lee, Johnny Rzeznik, Robby Takac, Redd Volkeart and many others. The album is currently scheduled for a fall 2005 release.

DEEP PURPLE Guitarist Says Conversation With MICK MARS Was Highlight Of LIVE 8 - July 28, 2005

DEEP PURPLE guitarist Steve Morse has posted a two-part letter at his web site offering a recap of his recent activities. A few excerpts from the letter follow:

"We ended up being able to play on 'Live 8' by virtue of some excellent planning. Our managers got together with Ryan Aviation in Rockford, Illinois, and got us a big enough jet to bring us to Canada, then back to the U.S. for our next scheduled date... the same day."

"Musical highlights for me were just being able to hear some great artists play. I knew Randy Bachman's music from his hits with BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE, but I wasn't prepared for how well he sang and played. I'm a big BRYAN ADAMS fan, so I watched his set and said hello with a big smile on my face. He always sounds fantastic.

"Perhaps the biggest deal for me personally was a conversation I had with Mick Mars from MÖTLEY CRÜE. I got a chance to talk to Mick and tell him that he was an inspiration to my son.

"The show last night in Bulgaria was amazing. Five miles before the gig, we saw people parking their cars on the side of the only road leading to the remote outdoor location. In that part of the world, DEEP PURPLE was not even allowed to be sold or listened to 'back in the day'!"
