Perhaps the strangest item, it's a set of Beatles bobbleheads, accompanied by a Paul McCartney shampoo bottle. Maybe Gene Simmons' Kiss merchandising tendencies aren't so bad after all. The set is expected to claim $1,500-2,500. Perhaps the strangest item, it's a set of Beatles bobbleheads, accompanied by a Paul McCartney shampoo bottle. The most expensive item on the bill: An autographed baseball, signed by all four members of the Beatles on August 15th, 1966 at D.C. Stadium in Washington, D.C. The equipment manager of the Washington Senators took his four children to the stadium before the concert, and each child had a baseball autographed by all four Beatles. Two of the baseballs have been sold, one was lost, and this ball, the last of the four, is priced at $15,000-20,000.The most expensive item on the bill: An autographed baseball, signed by all four members of the Beatles on August 15th, 1966 at D.C. Beatle John Lennon's hair sold for ?24,000Beatle John Lennon's hair sold for ?24,000

An unknown bidder has bought a lock of John Lennon's hair for ?24,000.
Hairdresser's floor sweepings go for ?24,000 at auction

The severed tress was part of a collection of Beatles memorabilia owned by the Fab Four's former hairdresser Betty Glasgow which went on sale at the Gorringes auction house in Worthing, West Sussex.

The lock, which was kept in a copy of Lennon's 1965 book A Spaniard In The Works, was accompanied by a hand-written note from the Beatle saying "To Betty, lots of love and hair, from John Lennon xx."

Mrs Glasgow, who has recently retired, was responsible for maintaining the iconic mop-top look of the four musicians during filming of A Hard Day's Night and Help in the 1960s.

The lot had a guide price of two to three thousand pounds, but bidding skyrocketed unexpectedly.

Francesca Collin, of Gorringes, said: "It is astonishing that there is still so much interest in the Beatles and the sale goes to prove that John Lennon is still an icon.

"To have some of Lennon's hair along with a signed note from him really does give it fantastic provenance and authenticity.

"Collections of this kind are rare and the hair in particular is a real one-off for Beatles collectors. Betty kept their moptops in trim and over time they became quite attached to her."

Mrs Glasgow, now in her seventies, has revealed some secrets about the pop legends' hair care regimes. It is now known, for example, that George Harrison was a martyr to his dry scalp.

As well as Lennon's hair, Mrs Glasgow's collection included a signed photo from the dandruff-plagued Harrison, which went for ?6,500, and others by the rest of the band.

Away from the Beatles, there were signed photos and messages gleaned from a career on set which stretches back to the 1950s from stars such as Michael Caine, Peter Ustinov and Steve McQueen.

Lock of Lennon's Hair Sells for $48,000

A lock of John Lennon's hair sold for $48,000 Wednesday in an auction of Beatles' memorabilia collected by the band's hairdresser. The hair - inside an autographed copy of Lennon's book "A Spaniard in the Works" - sold to an unnamed telephone bidder. Gorringes auction house had estimated the hair would sell for $4,000 to $6,000. Lennon gave the book and the lock of hair to Betty Glasow, the Fab Four's hairdresser during their heyday. He wrote in the book, "To Betty, Lots of Love and Hair, John Lennon xx."

My ticket to a fab Beatles fortuneMy ticket to a fab Beatles fortune
Jul 28 2008 by Tina Miles, Liverpool Echo

A RARE piece of Beatles memorabilia is expected to fetch thousands of pounds when it goes up for auction.

The Parlophone Records postcard was autographed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

It was signed by the Fab Four when they played a concert at the Liverpool Empire on May 26, 1963.

The ticket and programme from the concert, which also featured Roy Orbison and Gerry and The Pacemakers, are included in the same lot.

Collectibles expert Stewart Orr told the ECHO he is anticipating world-wide interest in the postcard when it goes under the hammer.

He said: “There is no doubt whatsoever about the authenticity of these autographs.

“The owner, who lives on the Wirral, told me that she went to the concert with her sister.

“Her sister picked up the postcard and waited with fans to get it signed by the Beatles themselves.

“She kept it with the original programme and the ticket.”

Mr Orr, who works for Shrewsbury-based fine art auction house Halls, said he expects the item to sell for more than the £3,000 valuation price.

He said: “It is very rare to have all four signatures. That is the reason it is so valuable.

“They didn’t get much chance to sit together and sign their names when they became famous. Beatles signatures are up there with Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix. The last time we had a postcard signed by the Beatles it was sold to a buyer in Canada.

“It was found in the draw of an old sideboard along with a postcard from Rhyl. We had world-wide interest from Beatles fans and I think it went for about £2,500.

“There are a lot of fakes out there so it is very rare to get genuine autographs which were obtained before The Beatles were really famous.

“We are expecting keen interest when it is auctioned.”

The postcard will be auctioned at Halls’ sale of toys and collectibles at Halls auction house in Shrewsbury on Friday, August 8.

Tape of final Beatle concert in Canada in 1966 to be auctionedTape of final Beatle concert in Canada in 1966 to be auctioned

According to the auction page, bidding reached $16,000. Mastro Auctions was estimating it might sell for as much as $30,000. However, the listing on their website says "reserve not yet met."

This is exciting: Mastro Auctions Inc. has allowed us to link to roughly 20 minutes of excerpts from the tape. The first five tracks are pre-show interviews, the last five are music -- the Remains, Bobby Hebb, the Cyrkle, the Ronettes and roughly three minutes of the Beatles with clips of three songs -- "Rock 'n' Roll Music," "Baby's In Black" and "Yesterday." None of the songs are complete and the quality on the tape is very rough. George's introduction to "Yesterday" that John C. Winn described in our last update on this page is part of the excerpts.

According to information posted at the Beatle site I Read the News Today and originally posted on the Beatlegs Yahoo group in 2007, the entire concert was recorded on a portable UHER 4000 report-L and the tape includes Beatle introductions to each song and interviews recorded before and after the show. You can read a full statement from the tape owner at the link.

Here's the tracklist:

1. Interviews with fans (before concert)
2. Rock & Roll Music
3. She’s a woman
4. If I needed someone
5. Day tripper
6. Baby’s in black
7. I feel fine
8. Yesteday
9. I wanna be your man
10. Nowhere man
11. Paperback writer
12. More interviews with fans (after concert).
