Investigation concludes that producer pulled the trigger

Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives have wrapped up their investigation into the February 3rd shooting that left forty-year-old actress Lana Clarkson dead and have concluded that legendary producer Phil Spector was responsible.
No charges have been filed yet, but the case has been turned over to the county's district attorney.

Spector was arrested around 5 a.m. on February 3rd after police responded to reports of a shooting at his Alhambra mansion. Clarkson was found dead in the foyer of his home and a handgun was retrieved from the scene. Spector posted $1 million bond the next day and was freed. He was initially scheduled to appear in court on August 4th, six months after he posted bail, but prosecutors were still waiting for the evidence to be handed over by investigators. Police cite complex forensic tests and the thorough review of evidence as the cause for the lengthy lag time between Clarkson's death and the conclusion of their investigation.

Spector has maintained his innocence since the shooting. In his most public address of the incident, he told Esquire this summer, "I didn't do anything wrong. If they had a case, I'd be in jail right now." The producer maintains that Clarkson, whom he met for the first time the night of February 2nd, shot and killed herself.

Investigator Captain Frank Merriman disagreed. "It's not an accident, it's not a suicide," he told the Los Angeles Times. "Phil Spector shot her."

Last month, Spector's bail was extended to September 30th. Prosecutors have not yet indicated their course of action.

Во всяком случае по каналу A&E пару дней назад показали большой фильм о Филе, где участвовал и он сам и члены его семьи в качестве приглашенных гостей. Фил не был похож на человека, совершившего убийство. Боюсь, что приведенная выше заметка это очередная попытка подогреть страсти в стиле МК. Хотя, посмотрим, как будут развиваться события. Во всяком случае, уголовное дело так не открыто. Фил настаивает на своей невиновности.

Монстр, я же не мужского пола, чтобы "получать удовлетворение" только при виде длинных женских ног. Фотка Спектора натой ссылке не годится: очень маленькие и очки больше, чем мои лыжные.
Помню, в фильме Tne Compleat Beatles была прикольная его фотография: такой маленький, ушастый... Под грустные слова, что на него бросили шкаф с пленками: разбирайся, как хочешь... (там по-другому было сказано, с попыткой прибить его шкафом не ассоциировалось)... Жалко его было.

Спектор есть во весь рост в фильме Gimmi some truth. С Ленноном. Маленький, в костюмчике, говорит по-французски иногда. Голос высокий.

Правда, и не искала: фотографий мужских ног у меня хватает: в свое время была на фестивале в г. Дюнкерке, во время которого большинство мужчин наряжается в женскую одежду, и почти все они предпочитают мини-юбки.

Phil Spector replaces lawyer, hires Leslie Abramson to defend him

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Music producer Phil Spector has hired Leslie Abramson, one of the nation's best known and most colorful criminal defense lawyers, to handle his murder case, ending his relationship with Robert Shapiro, Abramson told The Associated Press on Monday.

Abramson, who became famous for her role in the murder trial of brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, said she had been phasing out her defense practice with an eye toward retirement when she was contacted by Spector.

"I was about to hang it up when I got the call," she said. "No other defendant would get me to give up my freedom. No other defendant was someone I considered an idol, an icon and the definition of cool."

Spector, famous for creating the legendary "Wall of Sound," which gave a symphonic feeling to 1950s rock 'n' roll, has worked with the Beatles, Ronettes, Righteous Brothers and many other musicians.

He is charged with fatally shooting actress Lana Clarkson at his suburban Alhambra mansion on February 3, 2003. Spector, 62, is free on $1 million bail.

"I don't see any evidence that he did it," Abramson said, adding she has studied the case files.

Spector, who was charged with murder on November 20, suggested earlier this year in an interview with Esquire magazine that Clarkson may have shot herself.

Shapiro, the former O.J. Simpson lawyer, was on vacation and couldn't be reached for comment Monday, but he previously confirmed to The Associated Press he was leaving the case.

Neither lawyer gave a reason for the switch, but Abramson said the decision came in the wake of charges being filed against Spector.

"It is not unreasonable for the client to say, 'I've got to reevaluate things now,"' she said.

Abramson, 60, began her career in the Los Angeles public defender's office and developed a reputation as a fierce advocate for her clients.

With the Menendez case, she became perhaps the most famous woman lawyer in the nation, arguing the brothers killed their wealthy parents in "imperfect self-defense."

Separate juries heard each brother's case and both deadlocked, an enormous victory for the defense. But the brothers were convicted in a second trial and are serving life sentences without possibility of parole.

Along with Abramson, Spector hired Marcia Morrissey, the lawyer who worked with her on the Menendez trials and later defended Carey Stayner in the high-profile Yosemite murder case.

Coroner: Spector May Not Have Shot Victim

LOS ANGELES - Lawyers for Phil Spector released a coroner's report indicating the actress shot to death at the music producer's home may have fired the weapon.

The report stated that Lana Clarkson (news) had gunshot residue on both of her hands and was shot with a gun inside her mouth. It still concludes, however, that Clarkson's death was a homicide.

Clarkson, it said, showed no signs of being suicidal and there was no suicide note.

The forensic analysis report, prepared four days after the Feb. 3, 2003, shooting, had been on a "security hold" at the Los Angeles County Coroner's office until it was released Thursday to The Associated Press.

"There is certainly no justice in maintaining this secrecy in the light of Mr. Spector's being charged with murder," defense attorneys Leslie Abramson and Marcia Morrissey in a letter explaining their decision to release the report. The coroner had refused media requests to see the report.

Spector, who was arrested immediately after the death but not charged until November, is free on $1 million bail. Lawyers were due in court Friday afternoon to discuss his upcoming court schedule.

Prosecutors did not dispute the official results but indicated they would challenge the suggestion that Clarkson pulled the trigger herself.

"Analysis revealed several highly specific particles and many consistent particles of gunshot residue on both the right and left hand," the report said. "Therefore, the decedent may have discharged a firearm or had (her) hands otherwise in an environment of gunshot residue."

Autopsy drawings show that Clarkson had a broken acrylic fingernail on her right thumb, which defense attorneys are expected to argue came from firing the gun.

A gunshot releases a cloud of residue within a three-foot radius, said Sandi Gibbons, spokewoman for the district attorney.

"She could have had her hands on her lap when the gunshot went off and residue would have still been on her hands. There was residue on Spector's hands. He also had blood on his hands," Gibbons said.

Abramson and Morrissey declined to release a report on gunshot residue tests done on Spector the night of his arrest.

DNA analysis of blood found on the exterior of the gun and inside the barrel matched Clarkson's DNA, the report showed.

Prosecutors believe that Spector wiped the gun clean before it was placed on the floor near her ankle, Gibbons said.

The coroner's conclusions, based on law enforcement reports, said Clarkson's "male companion" had possession of the gun when it was discharged.

Other documents in the thick coroner's file showed Clarkson had alcohol and the painkiller Vicodin in her system when she died. She was found slumped in a chair in the foyer of Spector's mansion.
