Steven Tyler Is Going To Be A Grandfather

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is going to be a Grandfather. His daughter, actress Liv Tyler is pregnant with her first child.

Liv Tyler is married to former Spacehog singer Royston Langdon.

The actress, who starred as Arwen in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, is expected to have the baby in December.

Her sister Mia is married to Papa Roach drummer Dave Buckner.

He's 56 years old and he's about to be a grandfather, so maybe it seems like a good time for Steven Tyler to go solo.

I've heard rumblings from the Aerosmith camp in recent weeks that Tyler, the group's lead singer, is starting work on his first individual album ever.

This might be good news to some, but evidently not to the other members of the band.

When he heard about it, lead guitarist Joe Perry, who's suffered through thick and thin with Tyler for more than 30 years, apparently wasn't so keen on the idea.

"He went crazy," my source says, and that's a kind way of restating the original wording.

Of course, Tyler needn't feel shy about trying to make an album on his own. Every other rock star from a big group has done the same thing, from Mick Jagger and Keith Richards to Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey. And let's not forget Ringo Starr.

I mean, even J.C. Chasez from 'N Sync has a record out, and you don't hear Joey Fatone complaining!

Tyler, in fact, has done very little collaborating with outside musicians over the years, which is kind of a shame. I heard him sing with Sam Moore and Valerie Simpson at Dan Aykroyd's 50th-birthday party two years ago, and he was sensational.

Aerosmith could use the jolt from a Tyler solo hit anyway. Their most recent long-playing outing, "Honkin' on Bobo," billed as a blues record, was a sales disappointment. The group's last hit single, "Jaded," was in 2001.

On the positive side, Tyler and ex-flame Bebe Buell will become grandparents this winter when daughter Liv has her first child with husband Royston Langdon.

Tyler, by the way, will be on the lookout for songs from the best writers in the business. So if you know a songwriter, now's the time to make your plea.

The man has eclectic taste, as we know. Aerosmith's 1998 hit, "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," was written by schlockmeister Diane Warren, of all people. You never know what's hip until the checks start coming in!

AEROSMITH: DVD Version Of TV Special To Include Bonus Tracks - Aug. 23, 2004

The "Aerosmith: You Gotta Move" TV special that first aired back in June will be released on DVD in November, according to Launch Radio Networks. The fan club web site Aeroforceone.com says the DVD will have five songs that weren't included in the A&E special, as well as more behind-the-scenes footage. The two-hour "Aerosmith: You Gotta Move", which showed the band making their "Honkin' On Bobo" album and on tour this year with CHEAP TRICK, premiered on A&E on June 4.

AEROSMITH recently finished up their "Honkin' On Bobo" tour. The group are expected to take about a year off, but there's talk that frontman Steven Tyler and lead guitarist Joe Perry might release solo albums during that time.

The 56-year-old rocker and father of "Lord of the Rings" star Liv Tyler will be seen and heard in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the Caldecott-winning children's book by Chris Van Allsburg.

This dude won't look like a lady, however. In keeping with the holiday theme, Tyler will play one of Santa's elfin helpers.

"Polar Express" tells the story of a skeptical young boy who is transported along with other children by a magical train to the North Pole. Tom Hanks stars as the Conductor.

Tyler will also lend his trademark vocals to the film's soundtrack, which is comprised of original seasonal-themed songs, including the singer's "Rockin' Around the World."

"The Polar Express" pulls in to theaters nationwide on Wednesday, Nov. 10.

AEROSMITH: 'You Gotta Move' DVD Track Listing Revealed - Oct. 26, 2004

Billboard.com has revealed the complete track listing for the DVD version of AEROSMITH's recent A&E concert special, "You Gotta Move", which will be released Nov. 23 via Columbia. In addition to featuring five songs that did not appear on the original broadcast, the 162-minute package is bundled with a bonus audio CD with six tracks from the program, including "Livin' on the Edge", "Last Child" and "Same Old Song and Dance".

"You Gotta Move" will be screened on the day of release at select Regal Cinemas in the United States. For state-by-state theater information, visit Regal's official web site.

As previously reported, AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler can be heard on the new track "Rockin' on Top of the World" on "The Polar Express" soundtrack, due Nov. 2 via Reprise.

Aerosmith's Perry Preps for Release of Solo Album By Melinda Newman

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - One major benefit of releasing his first solo album in 21 years is that Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry can finally stop having to answer the incessant question from fans, "When are you going to put out another one?"

The self-titled album, which features Perry on all instruments (except drums) and vocals, comes out May 3 on Columbia. He produced the album, and even co-mixed the CD, with assistance from Paul Caruso.

Part of the impetus to finally record a new solo record was the feedback Perry received on "Ten Years," a midtempo ballad he wrote for his wife, Billie, to herald their 10th wedding anniversary. Although he never intended for fans to hear the song, when he played it for friends they encouraged him to show the public his sensitive side, despite his reluctance.

Additional courage to pursue the project came from a strange place. "Howard Stern said when he starts twinging inside when he's talking about something, he knows (he's) hitting a taboo subject and he knows he's doing good radio," Perry says. "And I thought about that as far as being an artist goes: I guess whenever you show a piece of yourself that you're a little scared to show or a little sensitive about, you're treading on ground that's actually important for the listener because it's real."

READING THE CLASSICS

For inspiration for the album, Perry turned to the best. After preparation for Aerosmith's last album, "Honkin' on Bobo," led him to delve back into his old blues records, Perry turned to the literary classics. "I didn't go to college, I wasn't exposed to much other than what came my way, which wasn't much." He read Hemingway, Keats and other masters as he wrote.

While making the album, Perry also had to deal with the shifting dynamics of recording a solo album versus an Aerosmith album, which are legendarily difficult endeavors. "A solo album has its own batch of problems," Perry says. "I had to spend more time digging down. There's a good side to working with four other guys, but you have to sublimate part of your own ego to work in that environment. With a solo album, you can put too much of yourself into it and think everything's great and it's not. That's probably the scariest part of it."

But soon, the album demanded to be born. "I had all these songs, but I didn't plan on doing a record," Perry says. "I thought if I had another year and another $100,000 to spend on it, I'd take this batch of songs, play with a band, work with Rick Rubin, but it felt like it was time."

The first single, the stomping "Shakin' the Cage," was released to active and heritage rock radio stations on April 12.

Perry will play a few live gigs to support the release, but his day job beckons. Aerosmith goes back on the road this fall before starting work on a new studio album. In tandem with the tour, Columbia will release a live album recorded primarily at Hard Rock's the Joint in Las Vegas in 2004.

AEROSMITH To Release 'Rockin' The Joint' Live Album Next Month - Sep. 1, 2005

AEROSMITH have set an October 25 release date for their new live album, "Rockin' the Joint". Recorded on January 11, 2002, the CD/DualDisc features such AEROSMITH classics as "Beyond Beautiful", "S.O.S.", "Light Inside", "Draw the Line", "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing", "Rattlesnake Shake" and "Walk This Way". The DVD portion will mix live performances with behind-the-scenes footage.

"When you can play in front of 3,000 fans, it's an opportunity to pull out some of the earlier and more esoteric songs," guitarist Joe Perry said.

AEROSMITH plan to return to arenas for another concert trek this winter. The band will then commence work on the follow-up to last year's blues album, "Honkin' on Bobo". Perry expects the new AEROSMITH record to sound like a hybrid of the loose, freewheeling "Bobo" and 2001's more technical "Just Push Play".

"We have 30 years of playing live together, and that's a real asset," Perry told MTV.com in a recent interview. "And that's what we drew from on 'Bobo'. We didn't have time to do a full studio record, but we wanted to press the reset button and do something that was less layered and precise. I hope some of that rubs off on our next recording experience so there's still some of that live edge."
