OASIS TRIUMPH AT GLASTO

OASIS made their triumphant return to GLASTONBURY tonight (June 25) as they headlined the PYRAMID STAGE in front of a rapturous audience.

The band, now joined by Ringo Starr’s son Zak on drums, also treated fans to a taste of what’s to come from their forthcoming sixth studio album.

Opening the set with ’Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’, Liam Gallagher, dressed in a white parka jacket simply shouted to the crowd, ”Glastonbury”.

Oasis ripped through a career-spanning set including the tracks ’Cigarettes & Alcohol’, ’Wonderwall’, ’Live Forever’, ’Stop Crying Your Heart Out’, ’Songbird’, ’Columbia’, ’Don’t Look Back In Anger’ and the set-closer - a cover of The Who’s ’My Generation’.

The band also gave the Glastonbury crowd an idea of what to expect from their forthcoming as-yet-untitled sixth studio album, with the new tracks ‘A Bell Will Ring’, and ’The Meaning Of Soul’.

Before playing ’Stop Crying Your Heart Out’, Liam told the audience: “We’d like to dedicate this one to the England football team”.

Tonight was the first time that the band have played at Glastonbury since their headlining 1995 appearance, and marked their biggest outdoor show since their gig at Manchester’s Old Trafford cricket ground in 2002.

Last time Oasis took to the Glastonbury stage they were joined by Robbie Williams who, just after quitting Take That, came to the festival in 1995 and even joined the group onstage to dance.

To warm-up for tonight’s performance Oasis played a warm-up show at Poole Lighthouse on Wednesday (June 23).

Starkey was adding his skills on the drumkit following the departure of former sticksman Alan White earlier this year.

Oasis are currently in the studio working on the follow-up to their last LP, ’Heathen Chemistry’.

OASIS have gone "back to the drawing board" with the follow-up to ’HEATHEN CHEMISTRY’.

The band, who headlined Glastonbury over the weekend (June 25), have been working on their sixth album for much of the year.

They originally recruited producers Death In Vegas before ending the sessions, and have also been recording without drummer Alan White, who has left the band.

Noel Gallagher told the BBC that "the moment has passed" for some of the songs that have been recorded so far, and Oasis will work on more new material before the album is released.

He said: "We've got to decide what kind of record we're going to do now, because the record that we tried to make with Death In Vegas, that kind of didn't happen and the moment has passed for that batch of songs. So it's back to the drawing board really. Hopefully, it will be out by the end of the year but I wouldn't have thought so."

Two new songs, titled ’A Bell Will Ring’, and ’The Meaning Of Soul’, were played at Glastonbury. A third unreleased song has also been played live in the past, titled ’Stop The Clocks’.

A band source has told NME.COM that the band are happy with a number of songs already recorded for the album, but that all four members of the band are working on material.

'DEFINITELY' DEFINITIVE!

OASIS have confirmed final details of their tenth anniversary reissue of 'DEFINITELY MAYBE’.

The group release ‘Definitely Maybe – The DVD’ on September 6. The audio version, including rare vinyl only track ‘Sad Song’, is accompanied by four hours worth of archive and new footage.

NME.COM can reveal the performance footage will feature material recorded at ’Top Of The Pops’ and the Glastonbury.

EXCLUSIVE - NOEL ON THE FUTURE OF OASIS

OASIS' NOEL GALLAGHER has spoken exclusively to NME about the future of the band.

In an email from the guitarist, he said that attempts to finish off their new album have proved to be "frustrating and fruitless".

Gallagher revealed that Oasis will start working on a new set of songs this month and are hoping to release the follow-up to 'Heathen Chemistry' at the beginning of next year.

He also wrote about the band's recent set at the Glastonbury festival, laughing off suggestions he and brother Liam demanded different dressing rooms and that they refused to see Paul McCartney's set together.

The letter read:

"Dear NME,

"We started talking about recording a new Oasis album in November last year. We thought it would be a great idea to try something different with the production this time around, and Liam came up with the idea of using Death In Vegas as producers/mixers, which everyone believed would be a fantastic collaboration.

"We drew up a list of songs (10 in total), booked Sawmills Studio in Cornwall and gave ourselves three weeks. Unfortunately, after the recording process we decided we didn’t like anything we had played/recorded during those three weeks, and because of commitments with Death In Vegas, Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes couldn’t find any more time to give to the project. It was then decided we would attempt to finish off the record ourselves, which so far has proven quite frustrating and fruitless. All the while, new songs have been written and old ones have fallen away. So we think the 'moment' for that particular record has passed.

"We plan to start work on a new set of songs some time in July and we hope to have a new album out in February/March 2005, so hopefully you will hear some new tunes by the end of the year.

"As for the other two points you’ve raised, the one about separate dressing rooms, is as usual, laughable. And as for not watching Macca from the stage, all I can say is Liam and his friends did, and me and my friends prefer the shared experience of the masses to the privileged position of the few. Now if you don’t mind…

Rockers Oasis are in danger of never releasing another album - because they've lost their creative spark.

The Wonderwall band, fronted by guitarist Noel Gallagher and his singer brother Liam, have admitted to suffering a series of setbacks in the recording of the follow-up to 2002's Heathen Chemistry.

Earlier this month, Noel wrote a letter to British music magazine NME in which he confirmed Oasis had ditched a load of material they "didn't like" and that recent studio sessions have been "frustrating and fruitless".

But an insider tells UK newspaper the Daily Star: "Being in the studio with them, the chemistry between Noel and Liam just isn't what it was.

"They still have tensions and arguments, but it doesn't seem to gel into the music how it used to.

"I really can't see where this next album is going to come from. Everything they've done over the last year has been scrapped."

Liam Gallagher says Oasis sticking together

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher and quashed rumours the band set to split.

Rumours of a rift have been circulating since the band played a widely-panned set at the Glastonbury Festival in June, with their performance even being labelled "a bit disappointing" by the event's organiser Michael Eavis.

Liam dismisses talk of an imminent parting of ways. He said: "Oasis are rocking. Every band has the odd bust-up and we sacked our drummer, but that's no big deal. It happens. But we are strong and ready to take on the world."

ROBBIE - 'TAKE THAT, LIAM, DRUGS AND ME'

ROBBIE WILLIAMS looks set to reignite his feud with OASIS in a forthcoming biography in which he reveals what he really thinks of NOEL and LIAM GALLAGHER.

Robbie and Oasis became friends in the mid ’90s shortly after Robbie had walked out on Take That. Robbie even ended up on stage with the band at Glastonbury 1995, before relations soured and one of the most famous celebrity fall-outs of recent times erupted. Liam and Robbie Williams almost reached the point of blows, and Noel went on to blast his old pal in the press.

In a new biography, ‘Feel’, which is published on September 1 and written by Chris Heath, Robbie gives his side of the story.

In 'Feel', Williams confesses: "I went from (being) Noel's mate to him keeping his distance and me being mates with Liam."

"Liam and I just used to do shitloads of charlie and sing 'Sgt Pepper' to each other. But Liam was really paranoid about everything. It's dreadfully sad for him."

Liam then turned on his old friend, and they traded vicious insults in the press and Robbie offered to fight him for a Ј100,000 charity purse before the argument cooled.

Robbie claims he got his revenge on Noel for calling him a "fat dancer from Take That" by writing a letter, never sent, along with some pies and a pair of dancing shoes on the eve of his three sold-out dates at Knebworth last summer.

Oasis played two consecutive nights at Knebworth in 1996.

The letter read: "Dear Mr N Gallagher, you said two nights at Knebworth is history. Well, I guess three is just greedy. Yours, Rob."

"PS: Finding it difficult to find adequate support for my show. What are you doing on the 1st and 2nd? Oh, and the 3rd?"

Oasis thank drugs for Definitely Maybe

Rockers Oasis insist the secret behind their chart-topping debut album Definitely Maybe is copious amounts of drugs.

The band frequently dropped acid while recording the 1994 CD and boast their inebriated state fuelled their creativity, although occasionally, their drug-inspired tunes horrified them the following morning.

Noel Gallagher admits: "Everyone was cabbaged beyond belief - 4am in the studio, you're about to eat yourself because you're so f***ing fantastic.

"You listen back the next morning and it sounds like Trumpton. But I love the album. And not only musically, but for what it meant to people - still means."

His brother Liam adds: "You're an idiot if you start taking drugs because you're in a band. It just so happens you can get more drugs when you're in a band."

Ian Brown and Noel Gallagher Collaborate

Former Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown has teamed up with Oasis' Noel Gallagher to co-write 'Keep What You Got'.

The Brown single is the lead song from his 5th solo album 'Solarized'.

The two Manchester men appear together in the video and Gallagher has been appearing with Brown on British TV shows to promote the record.

The album also features an appearance from Groove Armada's on 'Time Is My Everything'.

Brown is backing the release of the album with an extensive world tour and is including many of his old Stone Roses songs in the set for the first time.

The album will be released September 20 in Australia and February 5 in the USA.

Oasis reveal album release date

Noel Gallagher has revealed the release date of the new Oasis album.

He said the band had set themselves a deadline of May 26 next year to release the long-overdue album.

Noel told Sky One: "May 26. We've got a release date now, which is why it's been meandering for a bit because we've not had a date to work to because we're extremely successful.

"So they just say: "Alright, finish when you finish" - but it's kind of been rambling on and not working too hard on it but now we have to have it finished by May 26."

Oasis scrapped sessions intended for the follow-up to Heathen Chemistry, which included a period recording with Death In Vegas.

Noel recently revealed that Oasis have written 66 songs for the new album and that brother Liam has written most of them.

But he said: "Some of them are really good but he's going to have to do a solo tour 'cause I'm not doing a triple album."

Минусы: есть некоторая однообразность (особенно в ранних альбомах), откровенно вызывающее поведение братков. В общем эта группа мне очень нравится, наверно больше всех после Битлз, но ставить в один ряд с Битлами их нельзя, как нельзя и любую другую группу. К тому же Лайем - полный придурок, а вот Ноэл - отличный композитор и аранжировщик.

Не Лайем, а Лиэм, чувак... И отнюдь не придурок... Мало кто знает, что он играет не только на гитаре но и на скрипке и на фортепиано, просто он все принимает слишком близко к сердцу и соответственно на это реагирует. Я, чувак, ставлю Оазис в один ряд с Битлами и буду ставить. Лет через 20, когда рок н ролл вымрет на корню, ты вспомнишь мои слова.
