Later, The Beatles record Sun King / Mean Mr. Mustard (35 takes). The two songs are recorded as one continuous work. The demo of Come and Get It was released on The Beatles Anthology 3 (Disc two, Track 18). 1961--The Beatles perform at the Cavern Club at lunchtime. That night they appear at St. John's Hall, Tuebrook, Liverpool. At St. John's Hall, The Beatles also back a young girl singer, Cilla White, who will later achieve world fame using the name Cilla Black. The Big Three are also on the bill.

1962--The Beatles perform at the Tower Ballroom, New Brighton, Wallasey.

1963--The Beatles spend the day with photographer Dezo Hoffman, who takes photos and 8mm movies of the boys at their hotel, on the beach dressed in Victorian bathing suits, and go-carting. The exact date is not known, except that it is certainly one of the six days that The Beatles perform at Weston-super-Mare in Somerset (July 22-27). The movie film that photographer Hoffman took was broadcast in the UK on the BBC program, "The Tube," almost 20 years later, on December 3, 1982.

Highest chart position #1 for two weeks. Combined sales in the UK, the US, and other countries will exceed one million. The Beatles never recorded Bad to Me, but they did record I Call Your Name, which was released in the UK on The Beatles' Long Tall Sally EP.

1971--An interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono by Sue Faulconbridge, which took place at their Tittenhurst mansion in Ascot on July 20, is published in the Liverpool Echo. She writes: “You can no longer consider John Ono Lennon apart from Yoko Ono Lennon...they are, if you like, one person.”

1976--John Lennon's request to remain in the US is finally approved and he is issued his “green card” (A17-597-321), which permits him to remain permanently in the country. He is now entitled to apply for US citizenship in 1981. In a ceremony at the New York offices of the US Immigration and Naturalization Service, Lennon is given the green card by Judge Ira Fieldsteel, the same judge who had issued the deportation order against John on March 23, 1973.

1983--
Studio 2. Show ‘The Beatles At Abbey Road’ (3 times).

1965--The Beatles' second movie, "Help!" premieres in London at the Pavilion Cinema, with The Beatles, John Lennon’s Aunt Mimi, and Queen Elizabeth in attendance. The film would win first prize at the Rio De Janeiro Film Festival in Brazil. John would later call the film “bullshit,” complaining that “we were bit-players in our own movie.”

1966--The American teen magazine, Datebook, reprints excerpts from John Lennon’s Evening Standard interview with Maureen Cleeve. Presented out of context, it appears as if he is saying The Beatles are more important than Jesus Christ. Lennon’s quotes are treated as blasphemous and the subsequent chaos that occurs threatens to undermind The Beatles popularity in America, leading to the possible cancellation of their upcoming tour of the US.

1968--The Beatles in the recording studio (Studio Two, EMI Studios, London). George Martin is absent from this session, which sees the first recordings (six takes) of Hey Jude. One of these takes was released on The Beatles Anthology 3 (Disc one, Track 17).

1971--Having flown to New York to participate in George Harrison’s “Concert For Bangladesh,” John Lennon discovers that Yoko Ono will not be welcome on stage. He initially accepts George’s decision, until Yoko finds out. John and Yoko then have a violent argument and John storms off to the airport, where he catches the first flight back to Europe.

1998--Miramax Films co-chairmen, Bob and Harvey Weinstein, announce that they have bought the rights to The Beatles' landmark film, "A Hard Day's Night." Today The Beatles History:

1960--The Silver Beatles perform at the Grosvenor Ballroom, Liscard, Wallasey. The violence, noise, and general destruction that accompany the Saturday night sessions here leads nearby residents to complain, and the ballroom will be closed to beat groups for nearly five months. The Silver Beatles, meanwhile, begin searching desperately for a drummer, because their opportunity to play in Hamburg, West Germany, will evaporate if they are unable to find a suitable percussionist.

1961--The Beatles perform at Blair Hall, Walton, Liverpool.

1962--The Beatles perform a lunchtime show at the Cavern Club, then travel to Bootle to appear at St. John's Hall, which is re-named the Blue Penguin Club on rock show nights.

1963--The Beatles in the recording studio (Studio Two, EMI Studios, London), recording songs for their second album. Because they have two radio appearances to record during the afternoon (see separate entry), The Beatles work on their album songs in the morning (10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) and then again through the evening (5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.). During the morning session, The Beatles record nine takes of Please Mr. Postman and 10 takes of It Won't Be Long. In the evening session, George Martin records his piano overdub for Money (which had been recorded by The Beatles on July 18), then The Beatles tape 5 more takes of Till There Was You (adding to the takes from July 18), 8 takes of Roll Over Beethoven, 13 more takes of It Won't Be Long, and 13 takes of All My Loving.

1963--The Beatles tape an interview for the BBC radio program "Non Stop Pop," for its "Pop Chat" segment. Recorded at London's Playhouse Theatre. Broadcast on August 30.

1963--The Beatles, at the Playhouse Theatre in London, record six songs for the BBC radio program "Saturday Club." The songs: Long Tall Sally, She Loves You, Glad All Over, Twist and Shout, You Really Got a Hold On Me, and I'll Get You. Broadcast on August 24, with the last three songs being included in the portion of the program that is broadcast overseas. One track from this session is included on the 1994 Beatles double-CD Live at the BBC: You Really Got a Hold On Me (Disc one, Track 23).

1966--Brian Epstein goes to Portmeirion Village, North Wales, with George Martin, to recover from his glandular fever.

1968--The Beatles in the recording studio (Studio Two, EMI Studios, London). Continuing work on Hey Jude, going through take 23 and a reduction mixdown into take 25. But these recordings are more in the way of rehearsals, for The Beatles have booked sessions at Trident Studios to record the official version. During this session, The Beatles are filmed for segments in a short documentary about the various forms of British music (titled "Music!"). The footage is aired in the US on February 22, 1970, on the NBC-TV special "Experiment in Television."

1968--A public announcement of the closing of the Apple Boutique is made. In the wee hours of the morning, John Lennon and Yoko Ono arrive at the store. Placing a sheet on the ground, Yoko raids the boutique, filling it with piles of designer clothing.http://www.strawberrywalrus.com/applestore.html

1969--The Beatles in the recording studio (Studios Two and Three, EMI Studios, London). Recording overdubs for Come Together, Polythene Pam / She Came In Through the Bathroom Window, You Never Give Me Your Money, and Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight. Then The Beatles begin to assemble the "medley" that will make up side two of the album. Paul McCartney tells tape operator, John Kurlander, to discard Her Majesty, but Kurlander can't bring himself to do so, tacking it onto the end of the medley tape, about 20 seconds after The End. The next day, when acetate discs are cut from the tape, Her Majesty is included. Hearing it like this, Paul likes it and decides to keep it, including the lengthy silence preceding it.

1971--UK release of the George Harrison single, Bangladesh / Deep Blue (Apple). 6 weeks on the charts; highest position #10.

1973--John Phillips, of The Mamas and The Papas, calls a press conference to accuse his old label, ABC-Dunhill, of "the systematic, cold-blooded theft of perhaps up to $60 million, stolen from each and every artist who ever recorded for the company during a seven-year period."

1991--US re-release of the George Harrison album, The Concert for Bangladesh on CD (Capitol).

The Beatles' final Cavern Club showThe Beatles' final Cavern Club show
6.00pm, Saturday 3 August 1963 (48 years ago)

After nearly 300 performances at Liverpool's Cavern Club, this was The Beatles' final show at the venue.
Originally a jazz venue, The Quarrymen had first played their brand of skiffle at the Cavern on 7 August 1957. In the intervening years they returned to it often, playing both lunchtime and evening shows, and it became the Liverpool venue in which The Beatles played most often.

It was well known that The Beatles had outgrown the Cavern, and their regular fans were grudgingly aware that their popularity could only be served by bigger venues.
The show was officially declared by the club's management to have been The Beatles' 292nd there, although the accuracy of that number has been disputed. It is more likely that they performed at the Cavern around 275 times.
