DEF LEPPARD To Perform At LIVE 8 Concert In Philadelphia - June 26, 2005

DEF LEPPARD have been confirmed to play at the Live 8 festival, taking place around the world on July 2. Live 8 is organized by Bob Geldof, with eight free concerts that are held with the cream of international rock and pop artists performing in London (U.K.), Paris (France), Berlin (Germany), Rome (Italy), Philadelphia (USA), Barrie (Canada), Tokyo (Japan) and Johannesburg (South Africa). Hundreds of thousands will attend with billions more watching the international broadcasts, seeing artists such as U2, ELTON JOHN, MADONNA, PINK FLOYD, DIDO, BRYAN ADAMS, MÖTLEY CRÜE and many, many more.

DEF LEPPARD are performing at the Philadelphia show, where they will be joined by artists such as BON JOVI, DAVE MATTHEWS BAND, STEVIE WONDER and many more. No further details about DEF LEPPARD's performance are available at this moment. Fans will not need tickets for the show, but details of how to attend have not yet been released by the organization.

LIVE 8 Performances to be Documented On DVD - June 27, 2005

EMI has inked a deal to release the the worldwide Live 8 concerts on DVD in November. The company will tailor the content of the releases to each market.

Live 8 organizer Bob Geldof said: "I hope this will be the biggest selling DVD of all time. It deserves to be. More importantly perhaps, it should be, for it will help us achieve our goal of changing the lives of the extreme poor for the better and making our generation the one that helped end the disgrace of poverty. We are very grateful to EMI for their financial contribution which helped to make the July 2nd concerts happen everywhere on the planet and thus nudge the world a little closer towards our shared aim."

The concerts are being held ahead of the G8 summit in Scotland on July 6 where eight world leaders will be presented with a workable plan to double aid, drop debt and make trade laws fair to stop 30,000 children dying needlessly of extreme poverty every single day.

More Acts Added to Live 8 Roster Mon Jun 27

PHILADELPHIA - Alicia Keys, the Black Eyed Peas, Josh Groban, Def Leppard and Toby Keith have been added to the lineup of Saturday's Live 8 concert in Philadelphia.

Celebrity presenters at the show also will include actors Salma Hayek, Natalie Portman, Chris Tucker, Jennifer Connolly, Jimmy Smits and Kami, an HIV-positive Muppet from the South African version of "Sesame Street," organizers said Monday.

The show also will feature host Will Smith and performances from Bon Jovi, Destiny's Child, Linkin Park, Maroon 5, the Dave Matthews Band, Jay-Z, Keith Urban, Maroon 5, P. Diddy, Rob Thomas, Sarah McLachlan and Stevie Wonder.

Hip-hop impressario Russell Simmons has signed on as a producer.

The Philadelphia show is one of nine concerts aimed at pressuring leaders of the world's richest countries, the G8, to cancel Africa's unpayable debts and double aid for the continent. The concerts take place days before G-8 leaders meet in Scotland.

The other concert sites are in London; Moscow; Paris; Berlin; Rome; Tokyo; Barrie, Canada; and Johannesburg, South Africa.

In the United States, VH1 and MTV will air eight hours of the concert, while America Online, which owns the U.S. rights to the concerts, will beam them on the Internet.

JAMES BROWN TO CLOSE EDINBURGH LIVE 8 GIG

Soul legend JAMES BROWN will headline the Edinburgh leg of Live 8 next week (06JUL05) - as world leaders meet at the G8 summit in nearby Gleneagles, Scotland.

The SEX MACHINE star is keen to point out that race doesn't matter when it comes to raising awareness for poverty-stricken Africa, following criticism organiser SIR BOB GELDOF recently faced from black rights campaigners over the event's "hideously white" line-up.

Brown, 72, says, "I'm not going to perform as a black artist but as a man who makes music. You don't segregate. I don't care if children are black, white, red or yellow. I care that they are hungry.

"I know people need help and I want to be a part of it in any way I can. The concert will raise awareness of the problems in Africa and will make people think about humanity."

McCARTNEY 'DEMANDED' TOP SPOT AT LIVE 8

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY reportedly only agreed to perform at the Live 8 concert in London on Saturday (02JUL05) after organisers agreed to let him open and close the charity extravaganza.

The former BEATLE insisted on being top of the bill and told SIR BOB GELDOF he would "think seriously" about taking part, if not granted his requests, according to reports.

McCartney will open the gig with an adapted version of SERGEANT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND - reworded to praise Geldof's achievements - and end it with The Beatles ballad LONG AND WINDING ROAD.

Organisers were left with a tricky diplomatic job appeasing the top acts performing at London's Hyde Park - U2 star BONO was determined to get his fair share of the limelight, and will be allowed to share the stage with McCartney to duet on the opening track. Both stars will wear the military suits the Beatles wore on the Sergeant Pepper album cover.

A Live 8 source tells British newspaper the DAILY MAIL, "Some of the more fragile egos are upset. Bono, in particular, was quick to demand a share of the opening number and sees what he was done politically over the years as a bit more relevant to Live 8 than what Paul has to offer.

"These are the biggest rock stars around. Whatever order they sing in there is going to be friction."

A spokesperson for McCartney says, "Bob asked him if he would do it and he is delighted to be taking part in such an important event."

Pet Shop Boys head Russian Live 8

British band The Pet Shop Boys are set to headline Moscow's Live 8 concert in Red Square on 2 July.

It takes the total number of concerts on 2 July across the globe to 10, one in each of the G8 nations, one in South Africa and a smaller gig in Cornwall.

The concerts, aimed at raising awareness of global poverty, have been timed to coincide with the G8 summit of world leaders in Scotland on 6 July.

A further concert will take place on 6 July in Edinburgh as the summit begins.

"It is terribly important that we represent each of the G8 nations," said film-maker and Live 8 campaigner Richard Curtis prior to confirmation of the Moscow concert last week.

Saturday's concerts will kick off in Tokyo in the east and end in Philadelphia and near Toronto in the west, taking in Johannesburg, Paris, Berlin, Rome, London and Moscow on the way.

Top Russian bands including Bravo, B-2 and Spleen will perform alongside the Pet Shop Boys in the Russian capital from 1900 local time (1600 BST).

Meanwhile, fans of Sir Elton John will be able to see coverage of Live 8 at his Dublin show on Saturday as two giant screens will be erected at the venue.

Gates to the Royal Dublin Showground will open early at 1300 BST to allow fans to watch footage from the Live 8 concert in London's Hyde Park, where Sir Elton will play before jetting to Ireland.

How Paul pipped Bono to top of Live 8 bill

Sir Paul McCartney landed the headline spot at Live 8 after threatening not to perform at all.

The 62-year-old former Beatle told organisers he wanted to open Saturday's Hyde Park concert and close it or he would 'think seriously' about taking part.

They have bowed to his demand and Sir Paul will start the show with a version of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - reworded to honour the achievements of Bob Geldof - and round it off eight hours later with The Long and Winding Road.

A Live 8 source said Sir Paul's headline slot had ruffled a few feathers.

"Some of the more fragile egos are upset," he said. "Bono, in particular, was quick to demand a share of the opening number and sees what he has done politically over the years as a bit more relevant to Live 8 than what Paul has to offer. Remember, these are the biggest rock stars around. Whatever order they sing in there is going to be friction."

Sir Paul's demands may be a reflection of sensitivities arising from two previous affronts.

At Live Aid in 1985, which he also headlined, he performed half of Let It Be with a faulty microphone until engineers fixed the fault.

And last November, producers of the latest Band Aid single said he was too old to sing on it and he was relegated to playing bass guitar.

A spokesman for the star said last night: "Bob (Geldof) asked him if he would do it, and he is delighted to be taking part in such an important event."

The show is expected to be seen by billions of television viewers worldwide.

Вот именно. А придурок Gene поздно дернулся - билетов уже нет :-((( Хотя по их правилам... с собой нельзя проносить НИЧЕГО, даже пластиковых бутылок с водой, на месте все будет по астрономическим ценам. Туалеты за километр. Жару обещают за 30. От Торонто это час по хайвэю, т.е. с самого утра трафик будет безумный, парковаться соответственно километров за 5 от сцены. Местное CTV объявило прямую трансляцию в полном стерео. Вот и думаю - пилить наудачу киселя хлебать, или спокойно дома перед телевизором обложиться холодным пивом :-)))
