Wings' request to perform in the "land of the rising sun" was denied by The Minister Of Japan on November 11, 1975. This resulted in the cancellation of three dates (for which tickets had already been sold) scheduled to take place at the Budokan in Tokyo on November 19th, 20th and 21th. This cancellation prompted Paul to record an apology to his Japanese fans which was capped off with a brief rendition of 'Bluebird' by Paul, Linda, and Jimmy, possibly with Joe and Denny. This and a handful of Japanese radio broadcasts presumably dealing with the non-tour appeared originally on the bootleg Rock Show '75 (a.k.a. Paul McCartney and Wings in concert underneath the crux (winkling...) and were subsequently lifted for inclusion on Wings. These also appear on the Japanese CD Oh Mistake taken from one of the vinyl releases. This performance also appeared on the 25th Anniversary edition of Band On The Run. but was lacking Paul's spoken apology and faded prematurely compared to the Japanese broadcast. Judging from the sound quality on the bonus disc, there's a distinct possibility that it was simply lifted from one its previous bootleg appearances. The promotional The Story Of Band On The Run CD also features a trimmed version, excerpted from the 'The Story With The Music' portion. The raw tape, Take 2, complete with pre-performance chat circulates in superior quality. Paul's apology was apparently recorded separately and edited to the performance of 'Bluebird'.
