Beach Boy's new solo album also features late brother

Brian Wilson will release the star-studded Gettin' In Over My Head on June 22nd. Joining the Beach Boys mastermind on his first solo album of new material in six years are Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Elton John and Van Dyke Parks.
Also included is a duet with late brother and fellow Beach Boy Carl Wilson on the song "Soul Searchin'," with Brian adding vocals to an existing track, to complete the tune.

Wilson will debut songs from Getting' In Over My Head -- which include "City Blues," "The Waltz," "Desert Drive," "A Friend Like You" and "How Can We Still Be Dancin'?" -- on a summer European tour.

The album's release continues an active period for the famously reclusive songwriter, who has toured extensively over the past few years. In February, Wilson took to a London stage to perform the lost Beach Boys album Smile in its entirety.

Wilson will be honored with the BMI Icon award on May 11th at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. "I was so thrilled to hear that I've been chosen to receive the BMI Icon award, especially as so many of my all-time favorite songwriters have previously received this honor," said Wilson upon hearing of his selection. "I still have a rock & roll heart, so to be included with a list of all-time greats that includes my heroes like Chuck Berry and Little Richard is unbelievable."

Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John and Eric Clapton are among the guests on the new album by Beach Boys' Brian Wilson's.

The album Getting In Over My Head, is due for release on June 21.

Rolling Stone reports the album also features a duet with Wilson's brother and fellow Beach Boy Carl who died from cancer in 1998.

Wilson added his vocals to Carl's vocals on the track, Soul Searchin'.

Other tracks iclude City Blues, The Waltz, Desert Drive, A Friend Like You and How Can We Still Be Dancin'.

The album also sees Wilson reunited with lyricist Van Dyke Parks who contributed to many of the Beach Boys' 60s classics.

Wilson will debut songs from the album on his UK tour which begins with an appearance at the Eden Project, St. Austell, on July 16 and includes concerts at the Apollo Theatre, Oxford, (17), Guildhall, Portsmouth, (19), Regent Theatre, Ipswich, (20), Apollo Theatre, Manchester, (22), and four dates at London's Royal Festival Hall on July 24, 25, 27 and 28.

Brian Wilson Gets By With A Little Help From His Friends

Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson has completed his first studio album in 6 years with an all-star cast including his old friend and rival Paul McCartney.

The Wilson/McCartney goes way back to the 60s when each artist inspired the other to create their ultimate musical works. Wilson created Pet Sounds after hearing The Beatles Revolver. McCartney came up with Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band after hearing Pet Sounds.

McCartney and Wilson have remained close friends. McCartney attended one of the Smile shows in London. "He loved the show and had his band come the following evening" says Brian's wife Melinda in a post at brianwilson.com. "Paul is always very supportive to Brian. He always has wonderful, positive things to say".

The new Wilson album will be called 'Getting In Over My Head'. Other friends featured on the album include Eric Clapton, Elton John and Van Dyke Parks. A touching moment from the record is expected to be a duet 'Soul Seachin' with his late brother Carl.

Wilson is also expected to finally release the Smile album this year. Smile was originally meant to be the follow-up to Pet Sounds in 1968 but Wilson scrapped it to date had never been completed. The final tracklisting only surfaced for the first time on February 20 when Wilson performed the piece in it's entirety in London.

Brian Wilson has announced more show in England in July and then will take the Smile tour to the USA.

Brian Wilson Readies New Album

Brian Wilson's first new studio album in six years, "Gettin' in Over My Head," will be released June 22 by Rhino Records. The set features guest appearances by Eric Clapton, Elton John, Van Dyke Parks and Paul McCartney and includes a duet with one of his late brothers.

The artist provided additional vocals to an existing track featuring fellow Beach Boys member Carl Wilson, which now carries the title "Soul Searchin'." Carl was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1997 and died the following year.

The album features a number of songs that Brian Wilson had worked on earlier but had not yet completed, including the title track and "Desert Drive," which are culled from a mid-1990s collaboration with producer Andy Paley.

Wilson recently resurrected and finished music from his legendary "Smile" sessions, which he debuted live in the United Kingdom. He is expected to tour Europe in the summer in support of "Gettin' in Over My Head" and possibly bring the "Smile" concert to the United States in the fall.

The artist is currently in the studio working on the final version of "Smile," the never-released planned follow-up to the Beach Boys' 1966 masterpiece "Pet Sounds." Originally titled "Dumb Angel," the album's making precipitated Wilson's infamous nervous breakdown. Although ultimately scrapped as a project, some of the recordings were used to create 1967's "Smiley Smile."

Recordings from the "Smile" sessions have been frequently bootlegged over the years, appearing in everything from single- to four-disc form, with various would-be producers attempting to complete the mythic progressive pop album that all but destroyed Wilson's genius at the time.

Rhino parent Warner Music Group will likely release Wilson's belatedly finished version.

Да есть-то он какой-то всегда есть, и даже не один, только вот, понятно, когда его создатель до ума доведет хоть как-то, это и будет более-менее настоящий SMiLE. А так бутлежни всякой много выходило.

не согласен, надо брать издание на Sea Of Tunes с изумительным звукоми все.

Я совсем не уверен, что там трэклист стопудовый. Главное в SMiLE вовсе не музыка, ее давно все, кто хотел, заполучили, а трэклист.

Я имел в виду, никто никогда финального трэклиста этого неоконченного альбома не видел. Тот, что написан от руки, содержит что-то около 12 песен. А здесь просто содержится все самое главное, что по сусекам наскребли с тех сессий - типа, не факт, что He Gives Speeches должна быть на альбоме.

Лично мне всегда нравился самопальный альбомчик, душевно скомпилированный и выложенный в сети неким Райаном (Ryan "Bigrynz", уже не помню, как его сайт назывался, но он несколько лет держал этот шедевр на плаву). Там все в натуре текло, как хороший самогон...он взял за основу древнюю концепцию Доменика Приоре (в общем-то, с тех пор человечество ничего лучше и не изобрело). Список из Моджо подозрителен уже тем, что Do You Like Worms здесь идет второй песней...ну и чем трэк 4 на стороне 2 отличается от секвенции 5-6-7-8, его составители вряд ли объяснят. Чисто поэтому фаны и ждут официала - 95 % музыки все они давно слышали.

О! Я обратил внимание на эту тему, впрочем мне трудно представить, как будет звучать новый диск Брайана Вилсона.... От активного занятия музыкой он вреде отошёл, ну по крайней мере, больших сольных высот не добился . Но когда будет официальный релиз, я непременно его куплю в коллекцию! Когда я видел запись с концерта посвящённого королеве, то это оставило у меня противоречивое впечатление. С одной стороны, они сидел за клавишами, словно овощь, который принесли и усадили. С другой стороны, его голос звучал довольно правдоподобно тому, как он звучал во времена "Beach Boys".
