12-ЧАСОВОЙ БЛЮЗ-МАРАФОН

11 августа в парке "Лефортово" при поддержке Московского дома блюза "Би Би Кинг" состоится IV Московский международный фестиваль блюза – единственный в России ежегодный 12-часовой блюз-марафон под открытым небом. Хедлайнерами мероприятия станут выдающиеся американские блюз-гитаристы Ана Попович и Марк Форд.

Уроженка Югославии и выпускница Голландской Академии в Утрехте, певица и гитаристка, Ана Попович обладает огромным количеством наград и регалий. В своей музыке она соединяет блюз с другими современными стилями. После американского турне в 2005 году Анну признали звездой мирового уровня, а сама она переехала на постоянное место жительства в США.

Знаменитый Марк Форд, в прошлом гитарист групп The Black Crowes и Gov’t Mule, обладатель Grammy (2005), так говорит о музыке, которую он исполняет: "Я не играю рок. Это рок-И-ролл. "Ролл" для меня это все, где слышен блюз – свинг, госпел и другие стили. Это просто чувство музыки".

Понравились оба, приятно переключаться на разные стили музыки.

Blues drummer 'Uncle John' Turner dies

AUSTIN, Texas, July 26 (UPI) -- Drummer "Uncle John" Turner, who provided the beat for many blues bands and helped shape the Austin, Texas, blues scene, died Thursday in Austin at age 62.

Turner, who died of complications related to hepatitis C, played or recorded with many artists, including Stevie Ray Vaughn, B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix, Freddie King, Muddy Waters, and Lightnin' Hopkins, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported.

Among his concert venues was the 1969 three-day Woodstock festival, where he played with Edgar Winter, brother of Turner's band mate Johnny Winter.

As a trio, Turner, Johnny Winter and Tommy Shannon recording what are considered three of Johnny Winter's best albums: "The Progressive Blues Experiment," "Johnny Winter," and "Second Winter," the newspaper said.

The group broke up in the 1980s. In November of 2006, Turner reunited with Johnny Winter and Tommy Shannon during Winter's show at an Austin nightclub -- the trio's first live performance together in more than 20 years.

Turner is survived by his wife, Morgan.

"Big boss man is still the man today," growls Omar Dykes on one of just two non-Jimmy Reed covers from a rare release without his Howlers band. That handily sums up this roaring and impassioned tribute to one of the most vital, influential, yet often unheralded figures in blues. What was intended as a solo Dykes project took on a unique tinge as fellow Texan Jimmie Vaughan--also a huge Reed fan--swung by to add some solos and stayed to contribute his concise and taut guitar lines to nearly every track. The duo also brought in veteran harpists Kim Wilson (the Fabulous Thunderbirds), James Cotton (Muddy Waters), and local icon Gary Primich, as well as long time Vaughan associate Lou Ann Barton to upshift the groove with her sexy vocals. The resulting disc finds that slippery Reed pocket of sly, lazy, yet edgy shuffles that are deceptively difficult to recreate. Although Dykes's powerfully gruff, Howlin' Wolf-styled voice is nowhere near Reed's far less incisive approach, the bass-free instrumentation and Vaughan's guitar lines perfectly capture the essence of Reed's loping, low-key persona. Only a handful of these tracks ("Big Boss Man," "Baby What You Want Me to Do," "Bright Lights, Big City," and "Caress Me Baby") will be familiar to most, with others rescued from the deeper recesses of the bluesman's catalog. That makes this both a smooth drive and an immensely enjoyable learning experience for those wishing to take a field trip down Jimmy Reed's rugged highway.

This may be the best roadhouse-rock-and-blues-guitar album a drummer's ever made. But then again, this 40-year-veteran Austin songwriter's always had an affinity for guitarists. His first band, the Chessmen, featured Jimmie Vaughan and opened for Jimi Hendrix. Bramhall cowrote nine tunes with Jimmie's brother Stevie Ray. And his own son, Doyle II, is a six-string star who tours and records with Eric Clapton. So when the disc opens with charging chords and tremolo riffs atop a big Bo Diddley beat and closes with a prickly Texas Stratocaster serenade from Bramhall's fellow former Chessman, that's not surprising. Producer C.C. Adcock, Dylan guitarist Denny Freeman, and the junior Bramhall also get their licks in. What's unexpected is how far Bramhall stretches the genre's limits, setting "Tortured Soul" to an ambling drumbeat and atmospheric slide guitar arrangement that wobbles amiably into Tom Waits's turf. And "Chateau Strut" is a flat-out fusion instrumental, while "Cryin'" sounds like a lost doo-wop classic pinched from David Lynch's jukebox. Bramhall directs all this with his authoritative punch on drums and a dry, unadorned singing style that keeps his third solo disc direct and soulful all the way through.
