Нет, не понимаю. Hazmat Modine (так называемые, среднячки) играют в сто раз драйвовее и круче Берри или Маккартни, ИМХО... Я имею в виду, что их концерт мне понравился больше... Не понимаю, как ты отличаешь музыкантов средней руки от музыкантов не средней руки… Ты оцениваешь "хорошесть" музыканта по степени его знаменитости, по возрасту, по количеству Грэмми, по близости к блюзу, по чему?? Жаль, что остальные тебе не интересны будущее-то за ними, а не за Берри с Маккартни, и, тем более, не за Кокером, которые давно уже сказали свое слово в развитии мировой музыки и врят ли выдадут что-то новое…

Люди добрые, ну утомили уже постоянным переругиванием....

If you aren't happy, then Robert Randolph isn't, either.

As the leader of the critically lauded Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Randolph is all about having a positive message.

His music does the trick. A rousing mix of rock, gospel and funk, the group's signature sound is reflected in full force on their latest album "Colorblind."

Since their 2002 debut, "Live at the Wetlands," the Grammy-nominated group (which includes Danyel Morgan on bass, Marcus Randolph on drums and Jason Crosby on keyboards) has hit the road with Eric Clapton and Dave Matthews and honed their songwriting skills.

Known for his mastery of the 13-string pedal string guitar - he was named one of the top 100 guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone - Randolph, 28, a native of Orange, N.J., talks to the Times about what he learned from legendary musicians, his former life as a law clerk and why he wants his music to forever be uplifting.

Q: When did you first pick up a pedal steel guitar?

A: The first time was when I was about 15 or 16. My father got me the first one. In our church [House of God Church in Orange, N.J.], it was the common instrument. It's what I grew up with. I grew up wanting to play just like Calvin Cooke and Ted Beard, the guys I heard at church.

Q: Why did you take a lot of time between albums?

A: The first one came out and there was so much buzz and so much going on. We immediately went on three big tours, with Dave Matthews, then Eric Clapton and then Carlos Santana.

We really became so close to those guys and their bands. These guys are musical pioneers and we were hanging with them and talking about recording. I took in a lot of information.

Q: What did you learn?

A: Clapton and Santana showed me that guitar playing can be great, but so should the songs that you write. We went in the studio and took our time. It became so much fun playing with those guys. And we wanted to make sure we got it just right.

Q: How did your time at the House of God Church shape you as a musician?

A: Being in church, it's all about first playing from the soul and heart. It's not about technique. That's what you learn first.

Then you learn how to be humble. You learn that music is a gift that God gives us. You get an outlook on life, you learn that good word and now we just want to get that good word out.

Q: You guys are known for your spirited live shows. Is there a secret to keeping up that energy?

A: Once we get behind those instruments, the magic happens. There's this camaraderie that just happens.

Q: So no secret beverage or anything?

A: [laughs] I don't know about that. I'll let you know if we find it.

Q: Is it difficult to translate that energy into an album?

A: Here's the thing: When you think about live, there's just going to be differences when you're in a studio. There's a certain energy that you just can't recreate.

In the studio, you do the best you can. We leaned a lot about honing our music to make it as close to our live shows as possible.

Q: I heard that you once were a law clerk. For some reason, I can't see that.

A: Yeah, that was back in my clean-cut days, my suit and tie days. I used to just love playing in church, then we started playing small bars in the city and got a lot of interest. That's why I decided to leave work.

Q: Do you still give law advice?

A: [laughs] Yeah, it still comes in handy. I still know a lot of stuff and lots of lawyers.

Q: What did you listen to growing up?

A: Lots of gospel and as a young child perhaps the greatest influence was an album of greatest hits by Stevie Ray Vaughn. Then came the Allman Brothers, Beatles, Led Zeppelin.

Q: Do you listen to anything current?

A: I tend to keep on listening to the old stuff. But I do love the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Those dudes can get down.

Q: Your music is often called rockpel, which I guess is a combo of rock and gospel. What do you think of that designation?

A: Yeah, I've actually heard it as rockspel, too. What happens is that one of those, gospel, means good word. We got the good word with our lyrics and a rock 'n' roll mentality with guitars and energy.

The tunes bring it all together. We're really trying to uplift through songs and help people through the difficult times in life. We want to make people happy.

Наткнулся недавно на забойное исполнение Roy Buchanan "Hey Joe".
Кто-нибудь знает? есть ли в природе DVD или VHS с этим его концертом? Здорово играет, очень хочется посмотреть целиком, а не в нете.
