Вчера по амнриканскому каналу NBC было показано интервью с Оливией.
Благадаря любезности одног из фэнов ДЖорджа мы можем познакомиться с этим интервью.
Olivia Interview Transcript

Katie starts this part of the show walking along the Thames River at
night: "These days London is hipper than ever. With music fans still
making the Pilgrimage to 3 Abbey Road. The legendary studios where
The Beatles recorded such classics as 'Something' 'Here Comes The
Sun' and 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps.' All written by George
Harrison, who died one year ago this Friday. Tonight an exclusive
look into the private retreat of this very private man. Harrison's
widow Olivia shares stories, secrets and songs never heard before."
The interview takes place in the very beautiful gardens of Friar
Park. Olivia's first words are, "He was a person that I had a great
connection with. And he also had a great sense of humour. He was very
serious, and he aspired to a higher kind of consciousness. A higher
life." Now Katie narrates: "Getting Olivia Harrison to agree to an
interview wasn't easy. After all, this is a woman who spent nearly 3
decades not talking about George. A man who intensely guarded his
privacy. Which begs the question, why is she talking now? She says
she wants the world to celebrate George's new music and in turn,
celebrate his life." Katie and Olivia are walking through the
beautiful gardens of F.P. and they stop at the top of a hill and
Olivia says, "Now, there's a view." Katie says, "It's Gorgeous." Then
the cameras pan across the outside of the house. Katie narrates some
more, "No place is Harrison's presence felt more strongly than here,
Friar Park. The garden-like foothills of his home outside London.
This is where the famed rock idol and his wife shared many precious
moments together." Katie now talks more to Olivia.
Katie: "This is such a spectacular place and George absolutely adored
it, didn't he?"
Olivia: "Yeah he loved it here. You know, early on, he had to get out
of London. And, uh, he found a place where he could get away from the
crowds. And this is it." (Katie narrates some more: "An hour and a
half west of London. The 120 room Gothic Mansion was built in the
late 1800's. On 30 acres of land, it's shrouded in the mist of the
Thames Valley. But George felt most at home outside, it the gardens
of Friar Park.") Katie and Olivia are walking through another area
admiring the trees and plants. Katie: "Now did George plant all of
these?" Olivia: "Yep all of them, well he had help." (Katie: We sat
down on a typically rainy English afternoon. But as George might have
said, it's good for the garden.) Olivia: "You know, it's nature
really that he loved. And I think he felt closest to God in nature."
(More video footage of George in the late 60's with photographs as
Katie narrates some more: "The Beatles' Apple may have turned sour in
1970, but for George, it was a fresh start. He bought Friar Park,
which was a stark contrast to Beatlemania. And a perfect place to ask
life's essential questions. Like, Who am I? What am I doing here?
Where am I going?") Olivia: "George always said that no one had time
to ask those questions. And really, that's where he was at. He felt
that from an early age. But because he had commitments, he had a
career, he had, he was in a band, he had a lot of songs to write.
Still a lot of aspirations to fulfill. You know, he had to continue
participating, probably longer than he wanted to." Katie: "I like
the way you say 'He was in a Band' like 'No Big Deal." Katie laughs
and Olivia says, "Well that's, you know." Katie: "Is that how he
felt about it?" Olivia: "Yes and no, sometimes people would ask him
if he was a musician and he would say, 'Well I used to be in a
band'."

Katie Narrates while Bangladesh concert footage of him plays as well
as footage of him with Pattie, etc. "By 1974 this former Beatle was
flying solo both professionally and personally. Already divorced from
his first wife, model Pattie Boyd. George was about to embark on his
very own U.S. tour. That's when he met a 26 year old named Olivia
Arias in Los Angeles. Her grandparents had immigrated from Mexico.
Her mother was a Seamstress, her father a Dry Cleaner.") Now the
interview continues:
Katie: "As I read about you, I thought a lot about fate and destiny.
And how you were a nice girl in California working as a Secretary in
a record company. Now all of a sudden, you're here (meaning at Friar
Park). I'm sure, on some occasions Olivia, you might have thought,
wow, how did this happen?"
Olivia: "Wow didn't he get lucky? That's what I thought." (they both
start laughing and Katie says, "Good for you!")
More narration: (as "What is Life" plays, a pic appears of them with
George carrying a toddler aged Dhani.) "Four years after they met,
their first and only child Dhani was born. And while music always
filled this young family's home, it wasn't the music you might think.
George's wake-up call for Olivia was often be a Mozart Concerto or
Cab Calloway's 'Bugle Call' ragg or Hoagy Carmichaels's 'Stardust.'
Now for more of the interview (I think I'll skip the narrations from
now on, they're too long):
Katie: "George had an incredible joie de voirve that might belie the
image that a lot of people had of him.
Olivia: "He met a lot of people in his life and the people he wanted
to be around usually had the same qualities. Which was a simplicity.
He loved people who'd appreciate that (points to leaf) gingko leaf on
the ground, and say 'Wow look at that.'" (But George didn't love the
Press. And made no bones about it). George talks in an old
interview: "The press are such dummies, generally speaking. I mean
there are some great writers and great articles in papers. And in
some ways they do a useful job. But the whole thing is just to sell a
paper with a stupid sort of headline. I usually come across like I'm
some wierd, old, mystical, ex-Beatle."
Katie: "But he really wasn't some wierd old mystical ex-Beatle, was
he?"
Olivia: "Yeah, he was wierd (they both laugh) in some ways, yes. No
really, um, he was mystical and he was an ex-Beatle. If you want to
put those together, then you've got youself a headline. But, you
know, I don't think that's a very intelligent way to write about
someone. People say 'Oh he's a recluse' he says 'You know, I just
don't go where all the press is. People say I don't go out. I just
don't go where they are.'" (Stuck Inside a Cloud plays as Katie
says, "But even in this film footage that Olivia shared, shot just
over a year before his death, George himself reveals just how
isolated he'd become. George: "Sometimes I just feel, Am I actually
on the wrong planet? You know? I feel great when I'm in my garden.
But the moment I go out the gate, I think 'What the hell am I doing
here?'" Next they talk about the terrible stabbing:

Olivia: "It was a terrifying experience. It was nearly a fatal
experience."
Katie: "We might not want to admit it, but you were pretty fiesty."
Olivia: "Yeah"
Katie: "You took that lamp and you walloped him over the head."
Olivia: "Yeah, I had to. George was coaching me, I have to say. And
George was very brave and people don't know that. He'd already been
injured and he had to jump up and bring him down to stop him from
attacking me. You know, he saved my life too."
Katie: "You saved each other's lives."
Olivia: "Yeah, we did, and that was an interesting experience
because, you know, not a lot of people get tested like that, thank
god."
(George might have escaped that brush with death, but his next test
would be his last. Four years after being diagnosed with cancer,
George passed away one year ago this friday)
Katie: "While he was sick, how did he deal with that. The fact that
there was something happening to his body, ravaging his body that he
really couldn't control?"

Olivia: "You know, he never really, I don't think, felt in control.
He gave his life to God a long time ago. He wasn't trying to hang on
to anything. He wasn't, umm, he was fine with it. Sure nobody likes
to be ill, nobody likes to be uncomfortable. But umm, you know, he
went with what was happening. He said, you know, you can't just, at
the end of your life start thinking about god. You have to practice.
It's not something you just, uh, stumble upon. You know,
consciousness and self realization, you have to work for it." (The
narrator starts talking about the final album "Brainwashed" and says
it was completed by "Jeff Lynne and wouldn't you know (film footage
of Dhani walking towards the camera) here comes the son." Dhani
starts talking in a different interview: "It was the happiest and the
saddest thing we've ever had to do. It's a privilege and honor to
work on a record like this and so sad that he couldn't be there to do
it for us, you know?" Some footage is shown of George
starting "Brainwashed" in the studio. He says something (with a big
grin on his face) to the camera that sounds like "Especially Me."
Narrator: "Brainwashed" may be his Swansong, but if you're looking
for any prophetic words of wisdom, you'll have to read deep between
the lines. His wife of 23 years says George Harrison's songs were
about life, not death. (Old video footage of George plays while
Olivia speaks her next few sentences. Of him waving from a car window
and of him playing his Sitar in India and of him making "Brainwashed")
Olivia: "George dedicated a lot of his life to, to attain a good
ending. And I don't have any doubt that he was successful."
(The whole segment ends with George smiling at the end of
the "Brainwashed" video. Well my hands are very tired from typing
and it's 1:55 am, Pacific time (I live in Southern California). I
need to go to bed now. I hope you all liked the transcript, those of
you who couldn't see or hear the interview. It was great and very
emotional for me to watch.

I miss George's laugh so much
Mar 5 2003

By Gregg Fray Echo Reporter

GEORGE Harrison's widow has spoken for the first time about how she nursed her dying husband through his battle against cancer.

The ex-Beatle died in her arms at Sir Paul McCartney's home in Los Angeles in November 2001.

Olivia Harrison, the mother of George's son Dhani, has broken her silence to tell how he stared death in the face as lung cancer took hold in his final months.

The widow revealed her own hurt as Liverpool payed tribute to George on what would have been his 60th birthday.

Olivia said George's faith in God helped them both through the trauma of his death.

Olivia, 55, said: "George gave his life to God a long time ago. He wasn't trying to hang on to anything, he had come to terms with it.

"He said to me, 'You know you can't just start thinking about God at the end of your life, it's not something you just stumble upon, you have to work hard for consciousness and self realisation.'

"George had dedicated a lot of his life to attain a peaceful ending and I have no doubt that he was successful."

Olivia, originally from California, says what she misses most about George is his warmth and humour.

She said: "I miss George very much, he was a person I had a great connection with.

"When he was in hospital undergoing treatment, which was making him physically sick, he was still cracking jokes to make us feel better.

"George always had time for people, and he used to make fun of the fact he was a Beatle.

"Sometimes people would ask him, 'Aren't you a musician?' and he'd just say 'Well I used to be in a band'."

"Anyone who knew George, was acquainted with how funny and lively he was.

"The world is a much sad d er place for suffering the loss of such a beautiful man."
