MUMBAI: Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, along with
his daughter Anoushka Shankar, would feature in an
advertisement calling for a stop to cruelty against
animals.
The 30-second advertisement, produced by People for
the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and to be run
on television, begins with Anoushka and Ravi Shankar
urging people to refrain from intentionally hurting
animals and calling for severe punishment against
those resorting to it.
Ravishankar asks people to join them in "asking the
government to take cruelty to animals seriously". "Let
us bring harmony to animals", Ravi Shankar says while
calling for updating of the 1960 Prevention of Cruelty
Against Animals Act.
The print version of the advertisment shows a smiling
Ravi Shankar sitting next to his daughter clad in
white and pale brown embroidered kurta holding a lamb,
amidst a lush green background with a slogan "Let's
Bring Harmony to Animals' Lives".
