But on this night, the two groups, who knew each other well, did things a little differently -- they joined forces and became "The Beatmakers."

Lewisohn reported the lineup as George Harrison on lead guitar, Paul McCartney on rhythm guitar, Pete Best and Freddy Marsden on drums, Les Maguire on sax, Les Chadwick on bass guitar, John Lennon on piano and Gerry Marsden on lead guitar and vocals. Karl Terry of Karl Terry and the Cruisers, who were also on the bill, added to the vocals.

The supergroup lasted only for the evening. One can only imagine the songs they played. Too bad there are no known tapes of this gig.

От себя замечу, что Litherland Town Hall занимает почетное пятое место по количеству выступлений Битлз в Ливерпуле.
Они выступали там 20 раз. Промоутер клуба - Брайан Келли

Первая четверка:
Cavern Club - 292 раза
Casbah - 43 раза
Liverpool, Aintree Institute - 31 раз
New Brighton, Tower Ballroom - 26 раз

Идея Боба Вулера: "Все было весело и по пьяне":

RECORD COLLECTOR: You put the Beatles together with Gerry and the Pacemakers as the Beatmakers?
BOB WOOLER: Yes, that was in October 1961. I'd been drinking with the Beatles in the afternoon and we got to Litherland Town Hall, where Gerry and Pacemakers were also on. Gerry had a few as well and everybody was in a merry, outgoing mood. I thought, "Ah, we've got the Beatles, we've got the Pacemakers, we should have the Beatmakers". It was a wide stage and it could have worked but they larked around too much. They did a few numbers like "Hit The Road Jack", swopping instruments, John Lennon was on Les Maguire's sax and at one stage, he was lying on his back under the piano. Brian Kelly was fraught with anxiety over it, but the audience liked it. It was a bit of a shambles really, so I lowered the curtain on the proceedings.

With the advent of the British Invasion, a great number of rock groups were formed, split up and sometimes reformed as "super groups." On Oct 19, 1961, what could be looked on as one of the first "super groups" was formed for a one night appearance at Town Hall, Litherland, Liverpool. This first "super group" consisted of Liverpool's top two groups, The Beatles and Gerry and The Pacemakers who were both appearing that night along with The Crusiers. Someone suggested that the groups should do a set together, so along with Karl Terry of the Crusiers the two groups performed as "The Beatmakers." Although provided with a number of opportunities to reform, the Beatmakers were strictly a one-night stand band.

The Monday, 21 September appearance saw them share a bill with Gerry & the Pacemakers and Rory Storm & the Hurricanes.
On Thursday, 19 October, the Beatles and Gerry & the Pacemakers combined to make a single appearance as the Beatmakers. Gerry Marsden wore George Harrison's leather outfit and George, who played lead, wore a hood. Paul played bass and wore a nightie and Freddie Marsden and Pete Best played one drum each. It was so much fun that Karl Terry, leader of Karl Terry & the Cruisers, who were also on the bill that night, joined them on stage to sing. The numbers performed by the Beatmakers that evening were: 'Whole Lotta Shakin", 'What'd I Say', 'Red Sails' and 'Hit The Road, Jack'.
Interestingly enough, their final appearance at the venue was on Thursday, 9 November - earlier that day Brian Epstein had visited a Cavern lunchtime session to see the Beatles for the first time.
