Stones Roll On
New songs, rare oldies and record sales on U.S. tour

"I can't think of a tour that's kicked off with such wonderful enthusiasm," raves guitarist Keith Richards, twenty shows into the Rolling Stones' A Bigger Bang tour. "It usually takes more time than this to hit it," he says during an off night in Philadelphia. "But we're flying. All of the planets are in alignment."
That doesn't mean the notes are always in the right place. During the October 10th show in Philadelphia, Richards hit the riff to "It's Only Rock and Roll" -- as the rest of the band jumped into "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." "They're in different keys, too," he notes, laughing. "But somewhere in the first verse or two, it all segued into 'Satisfaction' -- without falling apart.

"But we are not up there playing by rote," Richards insists. "Even at this late date, this is an adventure."

The tour -- which ends in the U.S. in mid-March, then goes to Japan and Europe -- is on course to eclipse the Stones' record-breaking $126.4 million ticket gross from their 2002-2003 trek. "By the time we finish [in the U.S.], we'll have done sixty shows, where we did forty-nine last time," says the tour's promoter Michael Cohl. "And we've done more stadiums this time. There were a couple of shows where we set out to do 40,000 and went to the wire: 39,900, 39,600. But in general, we're at one hundred percent."

"The thrill of starting the tour is done," Mick Jagger says. "So I'm messing with the set list every night, putting different numbers in." Among the songs the Stones have added since opening in Boston on August 21st: "Angie," the Otis Redding cover "Mr. Pitiful" and the Sticky Fingers ballad "Sway," which "Keith had never played before," Jagger says, "because I played guitar on the original. He had to learn it."

The Stones are also performing at least four songs a night from A Bigger Bang, including "Rough Justice," "Oh No, Not You Again," the dirty blues "Back of My Hand," Richards' showcase "Infamy" and "Rain Fall Down." While the album debuted at Number Three on the Nielsen SoundScan chart and has sold 277,039 copies to date, Jagger is more pleased by the audience response to the material -- "They actually seem to be listening" -- and Richards says the new songs "feel like old friends. When I play 'Rough Justice,' it's as if I'm playing something I've known all my life."

Jagger admits he "was tempted" to perform the controversial "Sweet Neo Con" at the October 3rd show in Washington, D.C.: "But we only rehearsed it a couple of times. I thought, 'Oh, God, not now.'" He did have some fun at the expense of Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers. "She's had a busy week," he told the D.C. crowd. "She looked high, she looked low . . . she looked in the mirror and said, 'Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest judge of all?'

"I'm not going to turn into Bono," Jagger says of his stage raps. "I stick to a few jokes, wind 'em up a bit if they've got a football team that's lost."

Cohl has not yet spoken to the band about the possibility of more U.S. shows next fall. "But I'm still getting calls from local promoters," he says, "who are going, 'I'm sorry I didn't come in earlier. Can I get a show? Are you coming back?'"

Richards probably would not object. "This is akin to heaven," he says of the tour. "Without the seventy-two virgins," he adds, cackling. "I couldn't handle it."

STONES ADDED TO AMA LINEUP

British rockers THE ROLLING STONES have joined the roster of performers at the upcoming American Music Awards.

The band will appear via live a video link to their concert at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, for the 22 November (05) event.

MARIAH CAREY, KENNY CHESNEY and ROB THOMAS are among the performers already confirmed for the Los Angeles show, which will be hosted by comedian CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER.

Jerry's revenge on wayward Mick

It's been all over for six years now.

But that didn't stop a giggling Jerry Hall making a few well-aimed digs at the expense of her philandering ex-husband.

The 48-year-old actress and model spoke frankly of Mick Jagger's weakness for women as she hosted a fashion awards night in Monte Carlo.

And as the audience - including Victoria Beckham, Mariah Carey and Prince Albert of Monaco - hooted with laughter, Miss Hall seemed to revel in a little light-hearted revenge.

Asked on stage by her co-host Jeremy Irons whether Sir Mick might host the event with her next year, she replied: 'Are you insane? Have you seen how many models there are here? Even he couldn't afford the child support payments.'

A few moments later, the unfortunate Jagger was in her sights again.

Asked whether she had tried a spot of betting during her stay in Monte Carlo, she replied that she didn't gamble, as she always ended up losing.

Irons persevered and Miss Hall admitted that she did like betting on 'the fillies'. She then added: 'Of course, Mick always liked betting on a lot of fillies at the same time.

'Unfortunately, the last filly he bet on, I got to keep the house'.

Jagger fathered his seventh child, Lucas, with model Luciana Morad while married to Miss Hall, the mother of four of his children.

After years of putting up with his unfaithfulness, the affair with Miss Morad was the last straw.

Miss Hall promptly divorced him and did indeed get to keep their £7million home in Richmond, South West London. After a protracted paternity battle the 62-year-old Rolling Stones singer was also forced to pay child support for his son with Miss Morad.

As the night dragged on, Miss Hall appeared to be taking every opportunity to bemoan her life with Sir Mick.

On another occasion, she said: 'My advice to the models here is take it easy on yourself - and don't have four kids.'

Her candid views on her former husband were not quite as colourful as her outfits. She changed eight times during-the show, wearing gowns from Vivienne Westwood, Roberto Cavalli, Tommy Hilfiger, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada and Armani.

After the broadcast, she declared: 'Now I have nothing to wear for the after party - I've already been seen in all these dresses.'

The Fashion Rocks show, which is in aid of The Prince's Trust, will be televised worldwide.

It will be seen in Britain on Channel 4 on Saturday night.

Victoria Beckham, who appeared in a revealing Cavalli dress, insisted that she did not diet to keep her increasingly slender shape. 'I keep fit by running after my three boys all day,' she said.

Blondie singer Deborah Harry arrived at the awards on the arm of designer Tommy Hilfiger.

Her trademark blonde hair had been dyed a dazzling red.

Mariah Carey, who teamed up with designer Donatella Versace, declared: 'It's an honour for Donatella to come here and dress me tonight. I find her like a little Barbie doll who is always beautiful to look at.' Other guests included Ozzie, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, Bon Jovi, Emma Bunton, Rachel Stevens and Craig David.

А ты ее вообще, смотрел?

Похоже, иллюстрация на обложке не соответствует периоду.
Судя потому, что фигурируют, Mick Taylor, Tina Turner, и местечко Altamont, это возможно одна из пиратских верий фильма Gimme Shelter, с съемками 69 года.

Ну, это для Вас как 2x2 :)
А многие ни про какой Альтамонтъ, не говоря уже о фильме "Gimme Shelter", никогда и не слыхивали :)
