Бесспорно нравятся, отличная смесь из глема, диско и бог знает чего еще, с настроение с мозгами и без выверенного до миллиметра убожества современного поп рока, да еще умеющие отрываться на своих концертах, таких групп сейчас почти не осталось.

Scissor Sisters Debut Fresh Disco

New York dance team get with Elton, salute McCartney

On Sunday, Scissor Sisters will give America its first official taste of their sophomore album (due this fall) when they take the stage at the sprawling, much-anticipated Coachella Valley Music Festival in Indio, California.

New songs expected in their set include "I Don't Feel Like Dancing," which features Elton John's ivories on the studio version, and "I Can't Decide," which singer Ana Matronic describes as "a hot little banjo ditty."

The band will also introduce "Paul McCartney," an ode to the doe-eyed Beatle, penned by co-frontman Jake Shears. "He had a dream and wrote the song when he woke up," Matronic says. "It was a really amazing dream about Paul McCartney, so it's definitely a homage. But it doesn't sound anything like any Paul McCartney song that I've ever heard. It's pure hands-in-the-air, ridiculous disco fun."

With the group self-producing the album's ten tracks, they've forced themselves to try out new ideas by bringing in a slew of guests. In additon to John, most recently they've worked with famed David Bowie axeman Carlos Alomar, also Scissor Sisters guitarist Del Marquis' teacher. "He's one of the most amazing guitarists," says Matronic. "He's such a pleasure to work with and has such amazing experience that we learned a lot from him."

Matronic's also been expanding her craft with piano lessons -- from Yeah Yeah Yeahs drummer Brian Chase's girlfriend, incidentally. The diva's new skills have helped the outfit flesh out their disco and psychedelic pop sounds of the second record.

"There's been a lot of experimentation," says Matronic. "I think there's still a little bit more exploration we want to do before we're ready to say, 'OK, cool, it's done.' But it's so close."

Thrilled to be heading back to the stage with the new material, the Sisters are lining up a host of summer appearances in addition to Coachella. "So many of the new songs are just really fun to play live," says Matronic. "And we're also much better musicians than we were even six months ago because we've been working hard. So hopefully everybody will have as good a time as we are."

Sisters close Coachella in style
But cast doubt on the festival's future

The Scissor Sisters have closed Coachella 2006 by giving fans a preview of their second album tonight (April 30).

The New Yorkers brought a carnival air to the West Coast bash as they mixed favourites including 'Take Your Mama Out' and 'Laura' with songs expected to feature on their forthcoming record including 'Paul McCartney'.

However speaking from the stage singer Ana Matronic appeared to cast doubt on the festival's future.

"We could be one of the last bands to play Coachella, on this site" she declared. "They've lost the lease on this site, have you heard that? So we need to dance on some graves tonight."

A festival spokesperson was unable to confirm the accuracy of Matronic's statement, and NME.COM is currently waiting to hear from Coachella's promoters.

The possible cloud over the festival's future did not however dampen this year's climax as Tool returned to the Main Stage for the first time since they played the inaugural Coachella in 1999.

With a robust set, Maynard James Keenan's men repeated the evening's new material theme as they used the opportunity to showcase tracks from their new record '10,000 Days'.

Earlier, the evening session of Coachella's last day got underway with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs fleshing out their new album 'Show Your Bones' on the Main Stage with tracks including 'Cheated Hearts' and 'Gold Lion' alongside older crowd pleasers including a electrifying version of 'Maps'.

Over in the Mojave tent Editors managed to defy the undoubted draw of Madonna by playing to a packed crowd who lapped up the likes of 'All Sparks', 'Blood' and new song 'Bones'.

Acknowledging the draw of the singer who made her festival debut at the same time in the neighbouring Sahara tent, Editors' frontman Tom Smith encouraged the crowd to quieten down so they could they could have a "Madonna listen" which drew a loud chorus of boos so the band launched into 'Munich' instead.

"It was at that point we decided to drop the 'Holiday' cover," Smith joked with NME.COM after coming off stage. "I was surprised, I wanted to see Madonna myself."

On the Main Stage Bristolian trip hop veterans Massive Attack played a greatest hits set.

Joined by Cocteau Twins vocalist Elizabeth Fraser and reggae stalwart Horace Andy, before the band concluded their set with 'Unfinished Sympathy' which sent the Californian crowd into rapture.

The Go! Team added some DIY charm to proceedings on the Outdoor Theatre Stage with a frantically paced set, while Swedish rocker Dungen delivered a slice of psychedelic bliss ahead of Art Brut's finale in the Mojave tent.
