Denny Laine

In January 1980, Wings planned a tour of Japan. However, upon the band's arrival at the airport in Japan, Paul McCartney was arrested for marijuana possession. The tour was cancelled, and McCartney then decided to release a solo album (McCartney II) instead of touring, putting Wings on hiatus.

Laine decided to work on his own solo project (his third since joining Wings), and he released a single, "Japanese Tears". It became the title track of his album.

We were all friends together and now there is just black
There was a tap on my shoulder from a tiny yellow hand
I look down and see a very pretty little girl
(Pretty little girl)
Her eyes were black as coal, her teeth as white as pearl
Saw so many smiling faces but her face was sad
(But her face was sad)
When she spoke her lips were trembling, made me feel so bad
Know why she was crying she knew we could mix the air
She was there and much in love with the music that we played
After all the waiting, after all the years
(After all the years)
She looked up at me and I saw Japanese tears
(Japanese tears)

Japanese tears are falling like the summer rain on lotus blossom on the bamboo cane
In the old tea gardens, ‘neath the lemon trees, there’s nothing I can do to make them cease
Japanese tears, Japanese tears
After all the waiting, after all the years

Put my arm around her and keep staring at trees
Couldn’t find the words to say, I couldn’t even speak
Guess it broke the band as they were just as touched as I
(Just as touched as I)
I felt just like a father when he hears his baby daughter cry
(Baby daughter cry)

Japanese tears are falling like the summer rain on lotus blossom on the bamboo cane
In the old tea gardens, ‘neath the lemon trees, there’s nothing I can do to make them cease
Japanese tears, Japanese tears
After all the waiting, after all the years
Japanese tears, Japanese tears
After all the waiting, after all the years

(*instrumental*)

Japanese tears are falling like the summer rain on lotus blossom on the bamboo cane
In the old tea gardens, ‘neath the lemon trees, there’s nothing I can do to make them cease
Japanese tears, Japanese tears
After all the waiting, after all the years
Japanese tears, Japanese tears
After all the waiting, after all the years
Japanese tears, Japanese tears (*fading out*)

SIDE 1
1. Japanese Tears - Recorded at Rock City in 1980 after the arrest of P.M. in Tokyo. This is the "Long Version" telling the story of a young Japanese fan's reaction to the cancellation of the tour. The track was recorded as a string quartet arrangement (arr. Ian Hayter), with other instruments overdubbed by myself and wife JoJo on vocal harmonies.

Laine. Песню "Send Me The Heart" я записал с Полом в Нэшвилле.
