Ну и конечно путешествие довольно изматывающая штука. Да и страхов наш герой натерпелся. Но для такого альбома то, что надо:
“I just want bloody well to go home and watch the telly,” he confessed to his wife, Angie, on their way home to Beckenham, England. “After what I’ve seen of this world, I’ve never been so damned scared in my life.”
А еще Дэвид Боуи впервые в Сибири увидел такие диковинные воинские формирования как стройбат:
“We drank cheap riesling wine and beer (peeva) with a bunch of soldiers we met the night before. They were friendly and inquisitive as to what life was like in the west, when we asked them what they did in the army they said they were in the construction unit”.

Боуи не особенно многословен и дневник пишет словно из под палки. Насколько можно понять, путешествие он совершил в поисках инспирэйшена именно для "Алмазных псов", созданной "по мотивам" Оруэлловского "1984":
As I do a lot of my song-writing during my train journeys, naturally enough the atmosphere of the country I am passing through, the way of life and what I observe in the people, comes out in my songs. I wrote several songs about Russia, so I hope that one day you will be able to experience my impressions of Russia (and Japan), through my letters. You know, I keep thinking about that trip to Japan. It made such an impression on me. I loved the people and their culture, and I've found that of late my music and work has been greatly influenced by their music and theatre.
Philip Doddridge 1702-51, English nonconformist minister and noted hymn writer. His Rise and Progress of Religion in the Soul (1745) has been much translated. His many hymns include "Awake, My Soul, Stretch Every Nerve" and "O Happy Day, That Fixed My Choice." Doddridge's Correspondence and Diary (5 vol., 1829-31) was edited by his great-grandson.
David Whitaker Born: Background: First emerged into the industry in the late 1960s, and quickly developed an association with the British Hammer film studio, with whom he worked on numerous occasions, on classic horror titles such as "Scream and Scream Again" (1969) and "Vampire Circus" (1972). During this time, Whitaker also enjoyed a great deal of success as a pop and vocal arranger, especially in France, where he regularly collaborated with artists such as Marianne Faithfull, Johnny Hallyday and Pascal Obispo. After the spectacular flop of the "The The Sword in the Stone" in 1982, Whitaker concentrated solely on arranging, and during the 80s and 90s went on to work with artists such as Annie Lennox, Simply Red, Air, Natalie Imbruglia, Luciano Pavarotti, all-girl classical group Bond, and British rockers The Verve (his most notable work with them being the string arrangements on their number one hit, "Bittersweet Symphony"). After almost two decades of total film music inactivity, Whitaker was unexpectedly hired to score the French thriller "Harry: He's Here to Help" in 2000, was nominated for a Cиsar Award for his work, and is once again finding his services as a composer in demand. Occasionally goes by the name of David Sinclair Whitaker.
