Комментарии одного из фэнов об Interstellar Overdrive, исполненном с Заппой в 1969г.
========================================================================
Here are my first impressions about the 6 first minutes (yes, that's all
what I can listen for the moment)
First, the sound quality is not as bad as I've read. It's better than
'listenable', definitely better than the Birmingham show for instance,
even
if it not deserves a SUP or EX rating. It's probably something between
EX-/VG+.
Secondly, it's probably a unique performance. Based on the 6 first minutes
I've heard, the intro of Interstellar Overdrive was quite standard,
altough
cosmic. Mind you, I've heard so much fake mixes of Interstellar Amougies;
consequently the first listening to this track, brought some mix emotions
of
fair and excitation, my ears waiting for the first guitar imaginary notes
of
Frank Zappa's Les Paul SG. Then, at 4 minutes or something like this, all
doubt is evacuated, it's definitely Zappa's guitar, jamming with the
Floyd.
And the odd thing is that it almost sound as I imagined this jam (I am the
only one to hear some rare unreleased Pink Floyd tapes while dreaming ?) :
Zappa's guitar phrase reminds his work on Willie The Pimp from his (next
to
be released at the time) Hot Rats LP. I can't wait to hear the rest of the
free-jazz incursion... 14 minutes left... Wow!...

Ron, I hope that it will be a special Harvested audio release, with a
great
artwork including the guy with the mustache (I only saw 1 photograph of
Frank Zappa on stage with the Floyd guys) because from the 6 first minutes
I
have the chance to hear, it's already a unique version of Interstellar
Overdrive (the best one I've heard so far was the Philly '70 show-
Electric
Factory).
I think that would be a great think after the postpone of the Pulse DVD
with
its Testicular Bells artwork...

This is also a great year which starts for Zappa's fans, with the so-long
waited Petit Wazoo show officially released on Barfko Swill records
"Imaginary Diseases", and another Joe's serie...

take care,

Подробности про выступление в Amougies Festival в 1969г.
========================================================
I found an old printed document which is a transcription (with some
photos)
from a French mythic magazine (at the time) : "Rock & Folk" n°35 (now this
magazine is almost bullshit dedicated to Philippe Manoeuvre's God, Mick
Jagger), december 1969. This article was written by Paul Alessandri.
It's a very long article about each performance at Amougies (and not only
the Floyd).
The article about the Floyd performance is dithyrambic (well, I mean he
said
'it was fantastic!', but with many much more words, metaphors, etc... in a
nutshell, poetry :) the reviewer fell in love with the Floyd performance)
He describes the set-list, and reports that the More Theme was played by
Pink Floyd.

you can find this article (in French) on
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/gilboot/amougies

please tell me if this article happens to be not available anymore (if
this
would be unfortunately the case), and I'll try to make a translation.

Another interesting thing for the Zappa fans, is that this article
mentions
all other Frank Zappa appearances on stage with some other bands : for
instance, he reports that Zappa also performed with Aynsley Dunbar
Retaliation, Blossom Toes (Paul Alessandri reviews the Blossom
performance
as something "insipide, musique proche de celle des Beach Boys ou des Bee
Gees, trainante et profondйment soporifique, noyee, de plus dans un flot
de
pretention" : "insipid, the musical illustration of the void, a music
close
from the Beach Boys (:-o) or Bee Gees, sloppy, and moreover, a music
drowned
in some waves of pretentious" (free style translation made by myself in my
morning English)
but he adds that their performance had "deux visages forts differents" :
"two different faces"; the second face appeared when Zappa joined the band
on stage with a very long track which woke up the audience...

I hope all these will surface...

take care,

The complete Floyd set is as follows :

1. Astronomy Domine (10:10)
2. Green Is The Colour (3:45)
3. Careful With That Axe, Eugene (10:06)
4. tuning up (with FZ) (2:21)
5. Interstellar Overdrive (with FZ) (20:11)
6. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun (12:07)
7. A Saucerful Of Secrets (17:52)

So, unless I have overlooked it, no "More Theme" there.
And I believe the set is complete.

Firstly, our hearty best wishes to Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, who celebrates his 62nd birthday today. Congratulations Nick - and many happy returns!

Nick will no doubt be spending part of his birthday preparing for his trip to Germany, to continue the promotion of his wonderful book "Inside Out - A Personal History Of Pink Floyd". Nick will be signing copies of his book, as well as all manner of Floyd memorabilia, when he appears at the Buchhandlung Weiland in Hamburg, at 20:45hrs on 30th January, and at the Kulturkaufhaus Dussmann in Berlin the following evening at 18:00hrs.

Previously we reported on his visit to Kцln, which was scheduled for 18th March - the same day that David Gilmour plays his solo concert in Frankfurt! We contact Nick's office about this, to point out the coincidence (after all, a number of you were distraught that both were visiting Germany on the same day, but in different places!).

We are pleased to report that this date now looks to be undergoing revision, and as soon as we know the new date and full venue details, we will pass on the good news. So, hopefully, German fans will be able to see both Nick AND David soon!

Towards the end of last year, we saw the release of the paperback and audiobook versions of Inside Out (reviewed and pictured here - http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/reviews/ioreview.html ). The audiobook, narrated by Nick himself (and recorded in one, presumably very tiring, day!) brings us right up to date with Nick’s personal view of the band’s reunion with Roger Waters for Live8. The whole package comes as 3 CDs, with a 32-page booklet of photographs, in a special collector’s pack, priced at Ј15.99.

The paperback of Inside Out is also updated with Nick's Live8 recollections, and is in stores now. The addition of the Live8 reunion section will make both items very tempting propositions, even if the original book is already owned.

Online orders for the paperback book are being taken now by Amazon UK, Amazon Canada, Amazon France, and Amazon Germany.

With regard to the audiobook, this is available from Amazon UK, Amazon Canada, Amazon Germany, and Amazon France. Any items ordered from Amazon after entering their site from one of our special links, helps towards running costs of our site, and we appreciate it!

Подробности почему в Amougies Festival 1969 Фойд не исполнили More Main Theme...
==========================================================
As you may or may not know....

Ian Russell is working on a new edition of In The Flesh.

So when saw that this new Amougies tape had no More on it,
I sent this new info to Ian.

Ian responded that this new info only confirms the change
that he had already made for the new edition. Based on a
Belgian paper he discovered that detailed the concert, he
had already dropped the More Theme from the setlist.

Regards,
Ed.

Согласно статье в Sunday Mirror от 29 Января Пинк Флойд вместе с Уотерсом согласились сыграть как минмум 2 концерта в Royal Albert Hall.

Пока неизвестна достоверна ли эта информаци...

Вот транскрипция сей статьи:

::::
FLOYD: WALL MEET AGAIN. LEGENDS SHINE ON.

EXCLUSIVE BY BEN TODD - SHOWBIZ EDITOR

Pink Floyd have put an end to their fued and months of speculation to
re-form for their first full concerts in more than 20 years.

The legendary band - led by famously warring duo Roger Waters and Dave
Gilmour plus Nick Mason and Rick Wright - will play at least two
money-spinning dates at London's Royal Albert Hall later this year.

Following the psychedelic band's successful performance at Live 8,
concerts
have been pencilled in for November. A source said: "Live 8 felt like a
turning point. They are all now looking forward to getting back on stage
together."

Watched by a global audience of three billion, Floyd stole the show at
Live
8 last summer, despite playing just four songs.

Tickets for the 7,000-capacity venue are likely to be snapped up within
hours, leading to a brisk black market.
::::

Та же информация прошла по Talk Sport, в новостях которой передали, что Пинк Флойд выступят в Royal Albert Hall в Ноябре сего года.

Floyd to play in Nov.

Just heard on Talk Sport, they said in their news part that Floyd will play at the RAH.Just like the guy from the Star said..This is great news..I belive this to be the real thing..

Re: Roger Waters & ...SYD BARRETT - UNDER REVIEW DVD

On the Chrome Dreams label, it promises "rare performance footage never before on DVD" - a boast common to many DVDs coming out these days.

We've taken a good look at this new release, taking a look through the marketing talk so that we can let you know our views on it.

The documentary is a mix of footage of Syd with the other Floyds, in performance, in the studio and live, along with refreshingly knowledgeable and interesting commentary from contributors such as authors Chris Welch and David Parker, Uncut Magazine’s features editor Nigel Williamson, journalist Malcolm Dome, and perhaps most interestingly, (albeit frustratingly brief), former Soft Machine bassist who backed Syd on Madcap Laughs, Hugh Hopper.

The footage used is a mixture of the common and not so common - Look Of The Week, the UFO club, single promos and American Bandstand footage, for example - and most will be familiar to the Barrett era collector. There's also a fairly lengthly sequence from the recently unearthed Jugband Blues promo: a nice addition for those who've not seen it. However, there is nothing new to surprise the Barrett collector.

Having said that, it is notable for the inclusion of footage showing Pink Anderson playing guitar - footage I don't recall seeing elsewhere.

The documentary is well-written; not earth-shattering, with no new revelations, but evenly paced and avoids some of the more sensationalist stories found elsewhere. The focus is definitely on the music, but without going into the minutae of chord structures and sequences as have blighted certain other DVDs released over the last year or so...

Picture quality is fine, if blighted by a little motion blur when any of the "talking heads" move rapidly. In 4:3, letterboxed format which seemed to be defeating the purpose - either pick one screen format or the other! Some of the footage, incidentally, is presented in 16:9 when it shouldn't. The most obvious example comes early on with the Arnold Layne video which looks decidedly squished!

It is worth noting that some of the footage is of fairly poor audio and visual quality - in some cases, poorer than is freely available in the collectors circles these days.

Sound quality of the commentary is very good, in just a stereo mix. With the nature of the footage used, and available soundtracks, a surround mix would be an irrelevent fudge, so this is not missed.

In terms of extras, there's a section devoted to a brief biog of each contributor, a very brief one-screen promo for other Floyd released from Chrome Dreams, and a quiz that is billed as "The Hardest Syd Barrett Quiz In The World Ever", and is suitably tricky. All these items are silent.

There's also a four minute interview with Gary Lucas, who recorded the long lost (and recently rediscovered) Last Minute Put Together Blues Band recording from the Cambridge Corn Exchange in 1972. Whilst not a Stars gig, it does include Syd on guitar duties. Permission is currently being sought for this to be officially released, and frustratingly, we hear nothing from this tape.

Overall, an interesting and well put together look at Syd's brief but absorbing and much revered musical career. Very little new material or views for the hard-core fan who has collected all the available footage, but for the person seeking a good overview, this is worth a try. It is worth pointing out that this is an independent production, not approved or authorised by the band or record company, but unlike other recent titles released under the same strictures, this doesn't strike one as a cynical exercise designed purely for money-making purposes.

If you wish to purchase this title, orders are being taken over at Amazon.com (USA/Canada), Amazon UK, and Amazon Germany.

The highly rated Australian Chamber Orchestra are staging a tour of shows, The Travellers, which features a Pink Floyd classic as one of the headlining pieces to be performed. One of the performances is at the world famous Sydney Opera House (surely an ideal venue for Roger's Ca Ira at some point in the future?).

The organisers have said that "Shine on you Crazy Diamond provides audiences with a different way of exploring music and is an exciting, dynamic orchestral piece to be included in the first program of the Orchestra’s 30th birthday year."

Certainly the piece lends itself to an orchestral rendition, and with the pedigree of the performers, should be an interesting show. Here's where to catch the show: WOLLONGONG TOWN HALL Thursday 9 February 7.30pm Bookings 02 4226 3366
