Классический альбом Pink Floyd «Dark Side Of The Moon» 1973-го года поставил новый чартовый рекорд: на прошлой неделе он отметил 1500 недель (почти 29 лет!) пребывания в американском хит-параде Billboard-200. Эта цифра - суммарный итог нахождения альбома в музыкальном рейтинге: за прошедшие 33 года с момента выхода он то исчезал, то вновь появлялся в чарте всякий раз, как осуществлялось новое переиздание.

Напомним, что непосредственно после выпуска «Dark Side Of The Moon» держался в хит-параде целых 736 недель кряду, и впервые пропал из списка только через 16 лет - в 1988-м году.

«Когда мы закончили запись, - вспоминает бывший лидер Pink Floyd Роджер Уотерс, - я принес диск домой и дал послушать его своей жене. И удивился тому, какие сильные эмоции вызвало его прослушивание - она плакала. «Наверное, это действительно хороший альбом!» - подумал тогда я. Я надеялся, что «Dark Side Of The Moon» не оставит равнодушной публику - и рад, что так оно и получилось».

Новый рекорд совпал по времени с анонсированием летнего тура Роджера Уотерса, в ходе которого музыкант будет исполнять программу «Dark Side Of The Moon» вживую в полном объеме. Тур 62-летнего исполнителя начнется 4 июня в итальянской Вероне, пройдет по ряду стран Европы и после небольшого августовского перерыва переместится за океан - в Соединенные Штаты.

Польский город Лодзь.

Лодзьский автор и издатель художественной литературы Jacek Wdzięczak намеревается подготовить издание по случаю прапремьеры оперы Роджера Уотерса "Ca Ira" в Польше.

Книга расскажет об артистическом пути Уотерса,
о группе Пинк Флойд и о французской Революции,
которая стала главным делом музыканта.
Издание выйдет ограниченным тиражом в количестве 100,
подписанных Уотерсом экземпляров.

"В понедельник, 9 мая, я разговаривал об этом издании
с Роджером Уотерсом," - рассказал Jacek Wdzięczak.
"Для моего поколения члены Пинк Флойд - музыкальные боги," - добавил он.

The opera already exists in French and English versions, but it will be translated into Polish for the Poznaс performances. Janusz Jуzefowicz, famous for his work at Warsaw's Studio Buffo, will direct and choreograph the opera. The show will involve a cast of 400 and include performances from the London Community Gospel Choir and Poznaс's Boys' Choir

Music from the opera was first played to an audience in Rome last year and met with some very critical reviews. However, a CD of the opera has sold well, topping the Billboard classical chart on its release last September

In the warm, flowery summers of the sixties and early seventies, when the music of Chuck Berry, Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix was filling the air, 10-year-old Jim Weider was picking up a guitar for the first time.
Weider, who grew up watching his father play the guitar in Woodstock, New York, was also inspired as a child by Scotty Moore playing on Elvis Presley's recordings.

If you're still reading this, it is likely that you have a keen interest in music and most likely remember a group called The Band.

From 1968 through 1975, The Band was one of the most popular and influential rock groups in the world.

Former guitarist from the group, Jim Weider, is coming to Boothbay Harbor with his band, "ProJECT PERCoLAToR", an arsenal of incredible musicians including famed drummer Rodney Holmes (Santana, Steve Kimock Band), Mitch Stein on second guitar and Ron Jenkins on bass to perform a concert on Saturday, May 6, at 8 p.m. at The Opera House.

Aside from his work with The Band, Jim has also released three solo albums as well as six internationally.

So if you like clean guitar work, tight drumming and melodic bass playing, you don't want to miss this special event.

Weider, who joined The Band replacing Robbie Robertson in 1985, says that he has started writing in a new direction going more into groove instrumentals wanting to "stretch out a bit more" as he felt a little boxed in.

During 15 years of international touring with original members of The Band, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson and Rick Danko, Jim was featured on numerous albums, films, videos and television appearances.

Highlights include a 1990 performance with The Band and Ronnie Hawkins at The Berlin Wall concert produced by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd and also The Bob Dylan Tribute at Madison Square Garden.

Jim has performed with many great names including Bob Dylan Graham-Parker, Los Lobos, Keith Richards, Doctor John, Taj Majhal Bob Weir, Paul Butterfield and Hot Tuna. Weider, a master of the classic Fender Telecaster guitar, is renowned for his rock and blues-based signature sound.

He is among a select group of musicians with an endorsement from the Fender guitar company and, for the past three decades, has earned enormous respect from fellow musicians and music fans around the world.

Aside from his work with The Band, Jim has also released three solo albums as well as six internationally along with internationally distributed instructional video tapes and DVD's including Get That Classic Fender Sound, Rockabilly Guitar (two-video set), Electric Country Blues (two-video set), and his 2000 release, Basic Licks and Classic Solos for Electric Blues Guitar.

Weider's latest CD, "PERCoLAToR" represents his newest musical venture into a powerful groove & atmospheric guitar driven band.

Jim blends rock, blues with funk and jazz groove's combining modern drum loops and samples, to beautiful melodic ballads.

The new CD including ten of his original songs, features John Medeski on keyboards, Rodney Holmes on drums and Tony Levin on bass guitar.

Following hot on the heels of the album's ranking in the all-time top selling albums (see our news story of April 26th), Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon achieved another impressive landmark this month.

The 1973 classic has now achieved an incredible 1,500 weeks on the American Billboard charts since its release. When it appeared, some 33 years ago, it spent its first 736 consecutive weeks on the chart until it dropped out in 1988. Following another brief five week run, it has since dotted in and out of the top 200 for a further 759 non-consecutive weeks.

On being told of the 1,500 week landmark, Roger Waters told billboard: "When the record was finished, I took a reel-to-reel copy home with me, and I remember playing it for my wife and her bursting into tears when it was finished. I thought, 'This has obviously struck a chord.' I was kinda pleased by that. I thought to myself, 'Wow, this is a pretty complete piece of work,' and I had every confidence that people would respond to it."

Waters will be performing the whole of ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ on his upcoming tour, with the help of Nick Mason on at least two of the shows.

As Roger Waters' 2006 summer tour of Europe looms, with the first full show taking place in less than three weeks, we have a cluster of important updates for you, including news of a broadcast and possible DVD!

The tour promises a complete run-through of the 1973 Pink Floyd classic, Dark Side Of The Moon, as the second half of the show. The first half is a mix of Floyd classics and Roger's solo material. Elaborate staging is promised, designed by Mark Fisher, complete with projections, and a full, 360 degree quadrophonic sound system.

Nick Mason is guesting on drums at the Magny-Cours concert in France on July 14th, and has now been confirmed as also taking these duties at the Hyde Park concert in London, on July 1st. We understand that he might be playing other selected dates too, and as we get details of these, we will let you know.

Having mentioned the Magny-Cours concert, we've got more on that show for you. Sounds like it is going to be an incredible show... It has been revealed that Roger has chosen Groupe F for the special effects. Groupe F, world leader in fireworks, provided the firework display at the Eiffel Tower for Millennium Eve, as well as orchestrating all the special effects for French icon Johnny Hallyday’s concert at the Stade de France in 1998, during which the singer notoriously set the stadium on fire! Who knows what will happen at Magny-Cours, especially as there’s a 35-metre crane in the list of props...

Eurovision is partnering the concert for a high-definition recording, which rather smacks of a DVD in the pipeline. Negotiations are under way with French mobile operator SFR to broadcast the show using 3G technology, to experience the preparation and the concert in the inner circles.

Roger also is said to have phoned David Gilmour a few weeks ago to invite him to join him on stage... whilst Richard Wright has declined attending the show, David has yet (to our knowledge) to declare a decision on this.

Nick Mason will in fact be in Paris for the first weekend in June, giving a press conference and taking part in the Grand Prix de France centenary parade. This involves a procession of vintage cars through the French capital, on a round trip starting from Trocadero, over to the Place de la Concorde, up the Champs Elysйes to the Arc de Triomphe then back to Trocadero. Nick will be driving a car from his personal collection... could it be his Gilles Villeneuve F1 Ferrari?

Finally, an addition and a change to the current schedule of his tour. The additional date is September 9th at the Tweeter Centre in Boston/Mansfield, where Roger is also playing September 8th. Good news for people there.

The Moscow concert was due to be held in Red Square, but was moved due to an official Kremlin ceremony being held on the same day at the location. It has moved to Vasilyevsky Spusk, which is very close to Red Square. Tickets are now on sale for this venue. They went on sale on May 12th, through www.parter.ru, and other normal agents. Ещё перевод Полуяхтова в "Книге Песен. Частья 2", на мой взгляд, вполне удобоваримый.

Что имеешь в виду под словом "адекватный"?;) Если поэтический - то такие переводы интересно читать, но там часто бывает переделана сама суть того, о чём поётся. Пока достойных поэтических переводов не встречал (Проса и Конса по крайней мере)... Предпочитаю оригинал или подстрочник :)

Pink Floyd's Roger Waters will perform the premiere of his opera in Poznań.

The premiere of Ca Ira (There is Hope), Roger Waters' operatic history of the French Revolution, is to be staged at Poznań's International Trade Fair on July 6 and 7. The performance will take place as part of the 50th anniversary commemorations of the brutal suppression of a revolt against the communist authorities that took place in the city in 1956. A further performance is scheduled for November in Poznań's Grand Theater. "I'm very moved that I can play music here ... after your struggle for freedom," Waters said at a press conference in Warsaw last week.
