Duran Duran reveal second singles box set details

Duran Duran will release a box set covering their singles from 1986 through to 1995 on September 13.

Singles Box 2 1986 - 1995 will feature all the band's tracks from the original seven-inch singles plus many bonus tracks taken from the 12-inch versions. It will be the first time many of the songs have been

made available on CD.

The album covers a period when the Birmingham band had lost two of its original members, guitarist Andy Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor.

Bass player John Taylor quit the band to pursue a solo career in 1996.

Amongst the tracks are Notorious, No. 7 in the UK in 1986, All She Wants, No. 9 in 1989 and Ordinary World, No. 6 in 1993, as well as minor hits Skin Trade, Meet El Presidente, I Don't Want Your Love, Do You Believe In Shame, Burning The Ground, Do You Believe In Shame, Violence Of Summer, Come Undone,

Too Much Information, Perfect Day, Serious and White Lines (Don't Do It).

Singles 2 is the second Duran Duran box set from EMI following the release last year of Singles 1 covering the period 1981 to 1985.

The five original members of the band, singer SImon Le Bon, keyboard player Nick Rhodes, and the three Taylors, are currently working on their first album together since 1983's Ragged and the Seven Tiger.

Earlier this year they toured the UK and performed at the Brit Awards where they received the Outstanding Contribution to British Music award. The new album is due this autumn.

Reunited quintet to release "Astronaut" in October

Duran Duran have finished work on their new album, Astronaut, tentatively scheduled for release in October on Epic. It marks the first time the band's original lineup -- singer Simon Le Bon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, bassist John Taylor, guitarist Andy Taylor and drummer John Taylor -- has worked together since 1985 for the "A View to a Kill" single.
"We were like, 'We can still do this! After fifteen some years! How exciting!" Le Bon says. The reunited group recorded the new material in three different stages. They initially got back together in 2002, and spent some time writing new material in the south of France. After a brief reunion tour last year, the band headed off to England, splitting time between two studios. Most of the new material was recorded in the past few months with Linkin Park producer Don Gilmore, although R&B hitmaker Dallas Austen was brought in at the last minute to do some additional work.

"He just offers a different approach," Le Bon says. "You won't be able to notice who does what on the album."

The new material already appears to be far more eclectic than previous Duran Duran releases. Even the talkative frontman has a hard time summing up its sound. "It's like the Mamas and Papas meets Kraftwerk," he says. Le Bon labels the new track "Taste of Summer" as simply "fantastic, beautiful, warm, hot and sexy," which may not explain much as far as sound, but does bode well for fans turned off by the midtempo electro-pop of the group's mid-Nineties output.

Other potential standout tracks are "Bedroom Toys," a disco-funk throwback featuring Chic's Nile Rodgers, and the title track. "Nobody believed in 'Astronaut' except us," LeBon says, laughing. "It's like 'Girls on Film' -- it doesn't sound like anything else out there, and it has a strange chorus. But Dallas finally got it and helped us make a great song."

Duran Duran recently shot a video for the first single, "(Reach Up for the) Sunrise," directed by the Polish Brothers (Twin Falls Idaho), though the band members provided most of the footage themselves. In the spirit of the group's early exotic and action-packed videos, the clip shows John Taylor wandering the California desert, Le Bon racing a motorcycle through the countryside in Spain, Roger Taylor cruising in a car around England, Andy Taylor hanging out in an Ibiza club and Rhodes hovering in a spaceship over London.

Although LeBon is clearly excited about creating flashy videos with his old mates, he takes particular pride in the music. "It's a real complete album," he says. "It'll be the kind of album where you can listen to the whole thing in one go, rather than going on tea breaks."

Live Aid Broke Up Duran Duran

The historic Live-Aid DVD will be released for the first time ever on November 8. One band who played the gig but wasn't happy with their performance was Duran Duran.

Guitarist Andy Taylor tells Undercover News Live Aid broke up the band. "Probably, if we hadn't have done Live Aid we probably wouldn't have split up. We wouldn't have had to face up to each other at a point were we could have done without it. It is a big ironic fact but because we were on the road in America with Power Station so we had to blow out a few gigs at hefty costs. We weren't on the road with Duran so we had to rehearse. It was just a nightmare. We had done enough. Everyone had made an awful lot of money out of us and we needed a space. If we had of stayed away from each other at that period for 6 months clears things might have calmed down".

Roger Taylor says their Live Aid performance isn't their shining moment. "It wasn't a great moment for the band. I think everyone was in different spaces really. It was the first time we had done a show after John and Andy were in Power Station and I was in Arcadia and there was some disquiet within the band at that time".

Saying no to Bob Geldof was not an option according to Roger "It is a hard thing to say no to. We someone rings you up and says "it is for starving kids in Africa and we need the money" you can't say no. You have to do stuff like that. I'm glad we did it because we could not do it".

John Taylor isn't looking forward to seeing the performance again. "It was not a good night for us". Andy adds "Having said that, there were people who were a lot more fucked up than us. I remember having this conversation with Ronnie Wood about him having a go at it with Dylan and Keith. They were really, really rolling around. No-one was really tight. I think Woodstock had some great fucking bands like The Who and Hendrix, they were tight, they were playing but at Live-Aid it was a cobble".

In October Duran Duran will release 'Astronaut', their first album in 21 years with the original line-up.

Duran Duran hope to tell their story in an upcoming tome called "Please, Please Tell Me Now." According to their book proposal, they would chronicle the group's adventures, such as "Nick Rhodes' little-disclosed relationship with Andy Warhol and his bloody bedroom games with Elizabeth Hurley through Simon LeBon's torrid affair and courtship of the model Yasmine to Andy Taylor's journey into the fleshpots of Ibiza." The book would be written in collaboration with rock journalist Stephen Davis.

DURAN DURAN have revealed all about their long-awaited new album.

‘Astronaut’, due out on October 11, will be the first with the original line-up since 1983’s ‘Seven and the Ragged Tiger’.

Although the band have always been active in some form, the original members reunited last year for a string of shows which went so well they decided to make another album.

Singer Simon Le Bon told Billboard of the reunion: "We’re like any people who get very close. Sometimes you argue with each other. But the fact is we inspire each other musically. Nobody else does it for me. It’s just very special."

Музыканты Duran Duran планируют дать необычный концерт. 18 июля во время выступления группы в Орландо, Флорида, компанию поп-артистам составят классические музыканты из местного филармонического оркестра.

«Нас очень вдохновляет перспектива выступления с настоящим оркестром, - признается басист Duran Duran Джон Тейлор. - Возможность услышать знакомые песни в новых арандировках наверняка порадует наших фэнов. Однако, думаю, что и для музыкантов группы выступление с оркестром станет незабываемым опытом».

Британские ветераны гламурного поп-рока Duran Duran обещают, что их воссоединение не ограничится выпуском одного лишь альбома. За диском «Astronaut», выпущенным в 2004-м году и впервые за много лет собравшим в студии «оригинальный» состав команды, последует как минимум еще один альбом. Приступить к подготовке нового материала музыканты планируют уже этим летом - когда закончат мировое турне в поддержку предыдущего релиза.

По словам клавишника Duran Duran Ника Роудса, он и его коллеги намерены уже в августе приступить к сочинению новых песен, с тем чтобы в январе следующего года начать студийные сессии. Если все пойдет по плану, новая работа Duran Duran может появиться уже в начале лета 2006-го года.

Duran Duran plan the release of a new 3-D live DVD. The closest you’ll get to having a bunch of slightly overweight, supermodel shagging, former cokehead Brummies prancing about in your living room.

'Duran Duran: Live From London' will be the first live concert DVD to be released with all of Duran Duran’s five original re-united band members.

As well as a collection of the band’s undisputed classic tunes filmed during a five night sold-out residency at Wembley Arena during their 25th Anniversary Reunion tour in April 2004, the 2-disc DVD will also feature a song in 3D (with a pair of free 3D glasses included).

Filmed with “14 state-of-the-art high-definition cameras” the DVD is presented in SRS Labs Circle Surround® (whatever the f**k that is), 5.1 dts (ditto), 5.1 multichannel and stereo and includes a behind-the-scenes documentary, rare and candid interview footage, a photo gallery and a voice-over by all five of the band members talking about the songs and the show.

There’s also an audio CD with live versions of 10 tracks including 'Girls On Film', 'Planet Earth', 'Hungry Like The Wolf', 'Save A Prayer', 'A View To A Kill' and 'Rio'.

to: zand - "всего 2 песни с прекрасного нового альбома" - ну и хрен ли? Это весьма и весьма распространенная практика. Вон Rolling Stones тоже пару-тройку вещей с нового альбома на концертах играют, остальное - старые запасы.

"Ну и как это называется???" - "шоу БИЗНЕС" это называется, а ты что подумал?

Вопрос в целом, выпускались ли ранее DVD с трехмерным видеорядом?

Я бы сказал это эпохальная группа. В историю она войдёт это одназначно. Первопроходец такого замечательно движения как неоромантизм не может кануть в забытьё. Насчёт трудности прослушивания - не знаю, может только ранние альбомы... А вот "Astronaut" я купил и сразу с лёгкостью прослушал. Ни одной некачественной песни. Всё сыгранно в потрясающем качестве и напевности. Моментами попсовенько, не спорю, но в целом = это огромный корабль в море неоромантизма. Незаслуженно эта группа забывается на этом форуме.
Следует заметить, что отношение к ней крайне противоположное. Одни её терпеть не могут и считают, что это попса и девчачья группа. Другие её уважают, но не более того. Третьи полностью погрузились в неиссякаемый источник неоромантизама и плывут по его благодатному, ни к чему не обязывающему течению. У четвёртых, мнение вобюще скачет из одной крайности в другую. Например, в романе Харуки Мураками "Дэнс Дэнс Дэнс" на протяжении всего повествования автор то принижает "Дюран Дюран", гоаоря, что у них о нет фантазии. То делает их чуть ль не лучшей группой столетия. Наличие такого крупного спектра мнений и взглядов показывает, что не уважать за неординарность "Дюран Дюран" нельзя. Они не такие как все и это главное. Фразы типа "Если быть более точным, их наградили за "выдающийся вклад в музыку". По-моему, жюри слегка погорячилось" естествнно являются выражением мнения некоторох людей и заслуживают уважения, но я считаю их не вполне обоснованными, так как они достаточно внесли в мировую культуру и вполне заслуживают какой-либо награды. Как говорится нет ошибочных мнений, есть только противоположные и отличающиеся друг от друга. Неоромантизм. Этим словом всё сказано. Предлагаю оживить эту единственную тему посвящённую группе и выразить здесь своё мнение относительно их творчества, благотворительной деятельности, клипа "What happens tomorrow", их ролей в различных книгах, концертах, фильмах с их песнями и многом многом другом. Надеюсь вы меня поняли.
