Rolling Stone magazine has featured an interview with Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen about his new side-project Man-Raze:
Last summer, when Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen returned to London from Southern California to care for his sick father, he decided to look up Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook and invite him to jam. "I've always really liked the way he played," says Collen. "Even in Def Leppard, we referenced him now and again." The unlikely couple soon formed Man-Raze, along with bassist Simon Laffy, a former bandmate of Collen's from the early Eighties glam outfit Girl. The trio has just finished recording twelve tracks for their full-length debut, due this summer.
With the band members' diverse backgrounds, what does Man-Raze sound like? "It's a mix," says Collen, who also handles lead vocals. "We go from really hard rock, with obviously big guitars, to dub. I was always into the alternative stuff, a very big fan of the Police. And this is edgy -- a lot more aggressive than Def Leppard." DEF LEPPARD Announce Title For Covers Album - May 22, 2005

DEF LEPPARD's official web site has been updated with the following message:

"By now, most of you know that the next DEF LEPPARD album will be a collection of cover tunes from (mostly) '70s hits, and some of you may have read in various interviews that the album is scheduled for release in the fall of this year. While the final tracklisting is still the subject of debate, we are happy to tell you that the band has given us the green light to announce the title of the album. It's short n' sweet, quite to-the-point and 'in your face' and it reflects the very essence of rock n' roll. DEF LEPPARD's new album will simply be called..... 'YEAH!'"

As previously reported, DEF LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen recently told Billboard.com that the song list for the group's yet-to-be titled all-covers set has yet to be finalized, as the group decided to record more cuts than it originally planned. Collen admits that the idea for the project was first hatched years ago. "Joe [Elliott, vocals] has been wanting to do it for like 20 years," he says. "He's like, 'Oh, it'll be great, like [DAVID BOWIE's] 'Pin-Ups'!' Someone mentioned it at the label and we just jumped on it. We kind of had a list for years anyway."

Collen confirmed that the album will include "A bunch of stuff — all '70s stuff. Most of it is songs that we grew up with in England. 'No Matter What' by BADFINGER is going to be the leadoff single. We've done 'Waterloo Sunset' by THE KINKS, T. REX, MOTT THE HOOPLE, ROXY MUSIC and THIN LIZZY. And a lot of it is obscure; it's not the standard stuff. It's not like STONES or BEATLES songs."

As for the musical approach, Collen said, "They vary. Some of them are like we've kept almost karaoke versions, [while] other ones are completely different. It's not any one thing; it's however we felt for each song, really."

DEF LEPPARD GUITARIST TO RELEASE SOLO ALBUM

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell will release his first solo album, Two Sides Of If, on September 6th. Campbell will be joined on the blues-oriented album by ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, singer Joan Osbourne, and former Frank Zappa and Missing Persons drummer Terry Bozzio. Two Sides Of If features a collection of Campbell's favorite blues songs, including Willie Dixon's "I Ain't Superstitious" and "Spoonful," Fleetwood Mac's "Like It This Way" and "Willin' For Satisfaction," Rory Gallagher's "Calling Card," and Mel London's "Messin' With The Kid."

Gibbons guests on the two Fleetwood Mac tracks, while Osbourne performs on "Spoonful." Bozzio plays drums on the entire album.

Prior to joining Def Leppard in 1992 to replace the late Steve Clark, Campbell had played with the band Sweet Savage and the first lineup of Dio in the early '80s.

Альбом неплохой,ребята с кайфом играют хиты своей молодости..на мой взгляд лучше всего удались кавера на :The Who,Badfinger.

Bonus DVD includes The Sparkle Lounge track by track commentary and "Behind The Curtain" footage and interview behind the scenes.

Альбом получился, на мой взгляд, достаточно неплохим. Не шедевр, конечно, но вполне слушабельный. Примерно такое же впечатление было в своё время от альбома Adrenalize.
