Интересный парадокс - те же Куин в начале 70-х не могли избавится от постоянных упреков в своей музыкальной вторичности по сравнению с Лед Зеппелин, и насколько я понимаю такие сравнения в то время являлись чуть не приговором. Но, возможно, и стимулировали потенциальных талантов к выработке собственных идей. Теперь достаточно фразы - "Они, мать их, новые ___________ (впишите любое название)! Ура!". И под этим лозунгом впаривается 100%-ное г***о, и ты думаешь - журналисты вообще в здравом уме, писать такое (насчет новых таких-то)?
За долгую жизнь на сцене Даркнесс не дам и ломаного гроша. Сдуются быстро и незаметно.

Тёмные силы играют в футбол на родине Пола Маккартни

Фестиваль T In The Park прошёл успешно и довольно забавно:
Nothing could put Justin off from closing the festival's opening day with a bang on Saturday night – even a naked fan who ran on to the stage. Music lovers stared in disbelief when the naked pot-bellied man wandered on stage to give them a full frontal. The incident took place halfway through the band's lively performance. The ginger-haired streaker took to the stage as singer Justin Hawkins had left for a costume change. A further highlight of The Darkness' set was when eleven young Scots bagpipers and two drummers from Scots band Red Hot Chili Pipers joined the headliners on stage. The lads adapted The Darkness song Love On The Rocks With No lce for the bagpipes ...to the delight of the crowd. The sky then erupted in fireworks and the stage was showered with glitter, as they brought the first night of 'T' to a storming close.

В сентябре планируется американский релиз сингла Get Your Hands Off My Woman. В роли продюсера выступил Рой Томас Бейкер, известный по работе с Foreigner ,Cheap Trick, The Cars и Devo. Кажется, он ещё занимался с Nazareth на начальном этапе.
К Рождеству Music Week ожидает первый DVD группы. Они также предполагают, что продюсером второго альбома будет некто Рой Томас Бейкер. Работа намечена на начало 2005 года. (я ожидал, что уже осенью начнут)

"I don't know how apparent to the public these things are, but you really have to take ALL these awards shows with a pinch of salt. Yes, the public voted for the best single, but they could only vote for a bizarrely randon short-list selected by some random panel of "experts" - how can that have any real meaning ?? And The Darkness were out performing all year and HAVE to be the number one live act in terms of audience attendance and response .... did you notice they weren't even nominated ?? Why ?? Because these things are dominated by the major record companies... "

А ещё Wolfmother крутые,но The Datsuns круче!

Вчера ночью по MTV приятно было посмотреть видео Get Your Hands Off My Woman. И ещё приятнее - MotherFucker From Hell - балдёж!

Я на концерте The Datsuns был в Ливерпуле!Просто обалденный концерт был!А ещё мне Дольф подарил медиатор!

А что за передача то?Сколько себя помню,уж очень редко по МТВ что-нибудь приличное показывали...

Программа называется кажется "Рок без х****" - о современном роке. На MTV раньше были похожие программы (Центр риффа и т.п.), но рейтинг видимо их убивает.
Во вторник передача была на 5. Там были White Stripes - Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself, Franz Ferdinand - This Fffire, Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl, The Strokes, The Music, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Ash и так далее.
Правда, до того, я видел эту программы, была мало интересная подборка.

Завидую тебе: ты был в Ливерпуле!! Класс! Ну и концерт Datsuns это здорово! Молодец! Но говорят и The Darkness на концертах хороши.

Darkness Solo Album Confirmed

While The Darkness’ sophomore effort still has a confirmed release date, frontman Justin Hawkins has announced there’s already another album in the offing, and that rumours it will be a solo record are true.

Darkness frontman Hawkins is set to release a solo album rumoured to hit shop shelves before the end of 2005. Expected to be released two months after the new Darkness LP, the record, ’British Wail’, is reported to be “less rock” than the band’s previous output.

“It’s a lot less rock than the band stuff,” Hawkins told The Sun. “There’s a lot more synths. I suppose you could call it luxurious rock.

"I’d written most of it in demo form before The Darkness took off but I’ve only finished it properly recently. Anything I write with [brother and guitarist] Dan goes to the band but I’ve held on to my solo stuff.

“I guess Dan will have to be the guitarist. He likes the stuff. But it will be completely different from what people would expect."

As for The Darkness’ second album, the band are close to completing the record with legendary Queen producer Roy Thomas Baker. Hawkins said: “At the moment the rest of the band are on the instrumentals. Then I go back into the studio to finish the lead vocals. We’ve spent three months arguing about the name without getting anywhere. We’re still rowing about it.”

Posting on the band’s website, the band's official webiste webmaster has spilled the beans on life in the studio with The Darkness, including news of playing the very piano used by Freddie Mercury for 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.

“Their original long-list of thirty-nine songs has been carefully whittled down to fifteen, most of which are turning out so well they will almost certainly appear on the as-yet-untitled album,” the message reads. “One thing Justin certainly wasn't wide of the mark about was the drum sound, which he said was ‘perhaps the largest ever heard in rock’.

“He wasn't wrong. No time or expense has been spared ensuring that it is vast enough to fill an aircraft hangar. Nothing can quite prepare you for hearing it over the (I'm sure there's a technical term) big speakers in the studio.

"And the rumours are true, Justin is using the piano that Freddie Mercury played on 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Producer Roy Thomas Baker's Bцsendorfer apparently still sports stains where Freddie spilt a glass of red wine into it."

POULLAIN QUITS THE DARKNESS

THE DARKNESS is now a glam rock trio after bassist FRANKIE POULLAIN sensationally quit the band after only one album.

The English group leapt to international fame in 2003 with a string of hit singles and their debut album PERMISSION TO LAND hit the number one spot in their native Britain.

In February 2004, the I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVE hitmakers picked up Best British Album, Best British Group and Best Rock Act at the BRIT AWARDS, followed by an IVOR NOVELLO songwriters gong in May (05).

A spokesman for the band says, "With immediate effect bass player Frankie Poullain is no longer member of The Darkness.

"Remaining members (JUSTIN and DAN HAWKINS, ED GRAHAM) have cited musical differences as the reason for his departure.

"A replacement will be announced within the coming months."

Poullain was popular with fans for his pirate-style wardrobe and trademark walrus moustache.

Фрэнки действительно классный басист. Очень жаль, но замена найдётся. Рассматривается кандидатура Ричи Эдвардса.
Можно подвести некоторый итог деятельности группы за 5 лет. Прекрасная дебютная пластинка, феерические концертные выступления в 2003-4 гг., но затянули они с продолжением - хочется увидеть дальнейшее развитие. Буду ждать, когда выйдет DVD с материалом early days, а он непременно появится.

The Darkness New Album Update

Undeterred by the recent departure of bassist Frankie Poulain The Darkness are deep in session completing their new album borrowing Elton John and The Rolling Stones string arranger and Brian Jones’ old sitar.

According to a new exclusive report on the band’s official website they have now left the Welsh studio they were based in for the past few months and have moved to a London studio to complete guitarist Dan Hawkins’ guitar parts and singer Justin Hawkins’ vocals.

As for indications of what the follow up to ‘Permission To Land’ sounds like, the report claims that the record will contain major orchestrations in the form of string arrangement by Paul Buckmaster, famous for his work with Miles Davis, The Rolling Stones and Elton John.

The Stones connection doesn’t stop there, as one track features a sitar used by the late great Rolling Stones' multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones. Justin apparently taught himself how to play it during the sessions and uses it for a massive solo on the as-yet-unnamed song.

As for the recent departure of Frankie Poullain, the bassist’s presence has not altered the album’s autumn release date. The statement also points out that the bass on the new record will be played by Dan, as Poullain “had yet to participate in the recording of the album when his exit from the band was announced, so no re-recording of bass parts will be necessary.”

“We are sorry to see him [Frankie] go but musical differences are musical differences,” Justin added, “The mood in the camp is optimistic. We are coming to terms with the fact that Frankie is no longer in the band.”

And finally anyone who thinks the band may be downplaying their more flamboyant and grandiose tendencies on the new album will be happy to hear that while their classic track ‘Love Is Only A Feeling’ featured 13 acoustic guitars, one song on the new album features 15, while another is said to feature 120 individual guitar parts, (and that's before Justin has added his twelve solos).

At Darkness HQ, where Justin and his partner (Darkness manager, Sue Whitehouse) reside, I have gradually been frozen out over a long period of time. The reason for this is not yet clear - certainly nothing to do with Justin's solo album which I think is a great idea. In any case it's inevitable the truth will come out in the end.

"On a more positive note, the second album is incredible. Co-written by Justin, Dan and myself, I'm convinced it is destined to be a huge success. I'd like to thank all Darkness fans from the bottom of my heart for the staggering amount of support and goodwill they have given me during both the band's five year adventure and, perhaps more importantly, in the last two weeks, which I have found pretty difficult," he said. "They've given me the life I've always dreamed of, I am so grateful and I'll never forget them - I'll be back."
