Brandon Flowers performs 'In A Little While' with Bono
U2 were joined onstage by The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers for a special performance of 'In A Little While' in Las Vegas at the weekend.

The singer, who has listed the track as his all time favourite song by the Dublin four-piece on several occasions, made a surprise appearance to perform a duet of the song with Bono at the MGM Grand.

Earlier in the show, Bono hinted at the unannounced collaboration during 'A Beautiful Day' when he sang the lyrics, 'I've Got Soul But I'm Not A Soldier' from The Killers hit single 'All These Things That I've Done'.

The last time Brandon saw U2 in his hometown five years ago, he was an avid fan watching from the audience.

His duet with Bono for the Joey Ramone dedicated track was the highlight of an eventful night which also saw Mary J Blige step up for a powerful rendition of 'One' with the U2 singer for her third appearance on the world tour.

The band also brought their tour manager Dennis Sheehan on stage at one point, to mark his birthday with a performance of recent hit single 'All Because Of You'.

Sheehan has been with the band for 23 years.

U2 release a live DVD featuring footage from their May Chicago shows, on November 14.

Своеобразным курьезом для U2 закончилось их финальное выступление этого года в Нью-Йорке (22.11.05). Концовка концерта получилась сколь неожиданной, столь и странной. Все шло своим чередом, вплоть до того момента, когда, на сцену поднялась Пэтти Смит (Patti Smith), которая должна была помочь ребятам спеть финальную песню "Instant Karma". То, что произошло далее, не поддается логическому объяснению. Как утверждают очевидцы, непосредственно во время исполнения песни Боно деликатно проводил певицу за кулисы, при этом всем своим видом призывая фанатов продолжать петь. Другие участники U2, немного помедлив, последовали примеру своего фронтмена и, прекратив играть, так же покинули сенцу, но лишь для того, чтобы, вернуться уже через минуту. Вернувшись на сцену, ребята, как ни в чем не бывало, начали играть песню заново! Однако и в это раз чего-то у них не заладилось. Как говорится: не пошло… Ребята прекратили играть и снова покинули сцену. На это раз безвозвратно. Само шоу на этом и закончилось.
Что, крутано, путано и непонятно? А представьте, как чувствовали себя те, кто там был!

Странная новость. Везде пишут, что выступление Пэтти и U2 прошло нормально.

Они давали два совместных концерта 21 и 22 в Медисон, как я понимаю, накладка произошла в конце второго дня, я также был удивлен, но возможно Воно и Патти Смит, все-таки за два дня друг друга достали, люди они непростые, притом Патти Смит на разогреве у U2 для меня изначально выглядело как спорное предприятие, U2 конечно не последние ребята, но до культового статуса Патти Смит еще недотянули…

Думаю запорола, на октябрьских концертах в Медисон, я сам был свидетелем как она изгадила песню, было очень обидно, благо в следующий раз её исполнил только Боно без друзей…
А DVD отличный не живой концерт, но все-таки неплохая иллюстрация, взял пару дней назад, советую брать 2х дисковое издание, много интересных дополнений, но в таком виде его пираты не издадут.

U2 стали "послами совести" 2005 года

Правозащитная организация "Международная амнистия" (Amnesty International) наградила ирландскую рок-группу U2 совей высшей наградой - "Посол совести - 2005" (Ambassador of Conscience).

"Только лишь за их музыку и искусство U2 можно было бы назвать претендентами на самую престижную награду "Амнистии", - заявил представитель организации Билл Шипси (Bill Shipsey).

В пресс-релизе "Амнистии" отмечается, что уже более двух десятилетий музыканты используют свою популярность, чтобы защищать права человека во всем мире.

Одним из поводов для награждения также стало содействие группы продвижению "Декларации Прав человека". Во время своего последнего тура Vertigo World на концертах и пресс-конференциях U2 активно пропагандировали декларацию, называя ее "лучшим литературным произведением искусства в мире".

"Начиная с концерта Live Aid в 1985 году и турне Conspiracy of Hope, которое состоялось в 1986 году U2 бесспорно сделали больше, чем какая-либо другая группа для защиты прав человека вообще и для работы "Международной амнистии" в частности", - говорится в сообщении.

U2 Tops Billboard's Money Makers Chart

With $255,022,633.35, U2 reigns supreme on Billboard's inaugural Money Makers chart, which brings together Nielsen Music data and the magazine's Boxscore numbers to create a master top 20 chart of acts that generated the most income during 2005. The list includes album and digital sales as well as accumulated box-office receipts. U2 ranked 27th in album sales, ninth in digital sales and No. 1 at the box office.

The chart calculates aggregate album and digital sales for the 11-month window that stretched from the first Nielsen SoundScan sales week of 2005, which ended Jan. 9, through the week that ended Dec. 4, and marries that data with accumulated box-office receipts that reflect the same tracking period.

Album sales data are not just for an act's current titles, but for all titles, including catalog, tracked during the first 11 months of 2005. Digital data, likewise, includes all tracks available via paid downloads.

With $152,356,754.50, the Rolling Stones came in at No. 2, thanks to a No. 2 Boxscore rank and a top 25 showing with digital tracks. Kenny Chesney finished a distant third with $87,731,463.50, propelled by a No. 4 album sales rank and a No. 8 finish in Boxscore.

Paul McCartney was close behind at No. 4 with $84,263,375.10, followed by Elton John with $77,150,061.65. Without credit for the 1.3 million units that the Beatles sold during this 11-month period, McCartney's album rank would be lower than No. 100. Such an adjustment would move him from No. 4 to No. 7 on the Money Makers list.

The top 10 is rounded out by Celine Dion ($76,137,905.65), 50 Cent ($75,351,514.85), Green Day ($71,753,415.60), Neil Diamond ($70,203,895.50) and the Eagles ($67,524,283.25).

For point of reference, the Money Makers chart includes a column that shows how artists fared in terms of radio play, utilizing Nielsen BDS tracking from all stations of all formats -- including those that do not belong to Billboard or Billboard Radio Monitor chart panels -- for the same 11-month window.

However, since artists are not compensated for radio play, and because there is no industry standard that can be applied to the performance rights that publishers and writers receive for radio airplay, a monetary value was not assigned to the Nielsen BDS detections. Thus, radio play does not have any bearing on Money Makers' standings.

Bono Pushes U.S. to Increase Aid to Poor

WASHINGTON - Quoting from Islamic, Jewish and Christian texts, rock star Bono called Thursday for the U.S. government to give an additional 1 percent of the federal budget to the world's poor.

Speaking to President Bush and members of Congress at the National Prayer Breakfast, the U2 front man said it's unjust to keep poor people from selling their goods while singing the virtues of the free market, to hold children to ransom for the debts of their grandparents and to withhold medicines that would save lives.

"God will not accept that," he said. "Mine won't. Will yours?"

Bono's speech riveted the ballroom audience that included the president and first lady and leaders from Congress, the Cabinet, the military, the clergy and countries from around the world. At every table, Bono had distributed white plastic bracelets from The ONE Campaign to fight AIDS and poverty, and Sen. Hillary Clinton was among those who wrapped it around her fingers while she listened.

Bono thanked the president for helping to fight the spread of malaria and AIDS. Bush, in markedly lighter remarks than the singer, praised him as "a doer" but didn't comment on his proposal.

"The thing about this good citizen of the world is he's used his position to get things done," Bush said. "You're an amazing guy, Bono. God bless you."

Bono said the United States spends less than 1 percent of its budget on the world's poor. One percent of last year's budget would have been about $26 billion.
